Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about choosing axes for kindling
Kindling axe recommendations
I'm generally not a fan of Estwing axes, but I do own one and will say that you can get some improvement in grip and comfort if you scrape all that awful varnish off the handle and oil the leather.
Honestly I use a boys axe for that. Little bit more leverage.
It makes kindling processing quick and easy.
Interesting physics behind axe performance
Lower weight and better ergos mean higher speed and greater accuracy = quicker splitting/driving.
Makes sense. Also, magic.
Discussion on the differences between tomahawks and hatchets
any axe will split skulls in addition to whatever it’s intended purpose is 🙂.
General discussion on the utility of felling axes versus regular axes
IMO, the benefits outweigh the cons, because both fire making and fletching can be more effectively trained w/o using your cut logs.
There is no downside to making a felling axe.
wouldn't *not* having rations also just make the xp increase invalid as well, so it would essentially just become a regular axe of that tier?
Yes, not having rations means the felling axe functions identically to a normal axe.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on forcible entry tools
I carry a mini haligan in my truck because I come from a fire rescue background but I need an axe to complete the irons.
A halligan is the best forced entry tool ever made, and it becomes almost unstoppable with an axe.

Discussion about naming axes humorously
I need names for axes. Can you help me out?
Each of the 20 axes is a diferent dice roll, and stephanie is the 20.
This is hilarious and I love it 🤣 😂 😆
Blah doesn't even have a head, but I just can't bear to let it go.
General discussion on preferences for axes
Excellent splitting hatchet, lightweight handle, cheap too.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
General discussion on camping axes and preferences
Good camping axe? Any recommendations on camping axes that will hold up to regular use?
fiskars anything. really the best option for price point. just gotta sharpen em occasionally, i got a 400/1000 grit block i use on my hatchet and maul that works great
Gränsfor Bruk makes great axes! My partner uses the Scandinavian Forest Axe. Pricey but very reputable, gorgeous, and reliable. Council Tool also makes reliable axes. But if you don't have a preference, you may want to start with a cheaper axe and get a feel for what you like first.
Something from a hardware store with a hickory handle. Wood diffuses vibration from getting to your hands, and the handle can be replaced if it’s ever damaged. Estwing, Council, Husqvarna, Hultafors, Granfors, they are all good.
Discussion about different types of axes and personal preferences
Wood burning fireplace and a desire to NOT pay for wood is why.
Are they really worthwhile?
Keep it classy and your good.
