Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the tool's utility in survival situations
Back in 1945, a chicken destined for the chop miraculously survived the farmer’s axe and ran around without a head for the next two years.
It died because it choked on a piece of corn and its owner didn’t have the tool he used to clear blocks.
Discussion about full tang vs. wood handle axes
Thoughts on the estwing sportsman hatchet? I hear a lot of good things about it, and its served me well in the field, but I’m hearing that its bad to buy a full tang axe/hatchet and better to get a wood handle.
The review that sold me on it was “this an axe you can get as a young man and give to your grandson.” Certainly holding up as such.
Discussion about sizes and weights of hatchets
they are kinda different in use
looking for a hatchet. something i can toss in a 15-20L bag
Discussion about axe quality and brands
Are they decent axes? Do they cut well? Is the steel decent?
Estwing are generally known as quality tools. I’ve never heard someone say they didn’t like an estwing
I personally think they're pretty decent and I believe they're made in the U.S.

Recommendation for vintage hatchets
You could always go used vintage and get a super nice condition plumb Boy Scout of America hatchet for the 50’s-60’s.

Discussion about choosing between hatchets and axes
Which do you think is better, hatchets or axes Can be for any specific purpose or reason in survival
Ultimately like with most weapons I feel it would differ based on the situation. Like if I am in a narrow hallway with little room to maneuver I will take the hatchet, but if I'm in an open field completely surrounded but have plenty of room to swing then I'm still gonna take the hatchet because it will be easier to swing at my own head than the axe.
If I'm making a base though, I'll use the axe for felling the trees to build the palisade.
I prefer the hatchet regardless. I'm a big guy though. You add a 1' handle to a 3' arm. Honestly, all I really need is the sharp weighted edge and protection for my hand in combat. If I'm legit, fell trees and splitting wood with combat, yes axe for extra leverage. A human is not as hard of a target as an oak.
Discussion about the best axe options for camping
Good camping axe Anyone has any tips for a good all-around axe for camping?
Fiskars X27.
Most categories have a number of options, and the "best" one will depend on a number of factors about what your intentions are, your budget, etc.
Seconded. Won’t break the bank either.
Preference for knives over hatchets for versatility
knife. learn to baton.
Knife is more versatile.
If I had to pick only one, probably the knife tbh.
Budget hatchet recommendations
Budget hatchets Hi! I'm currently on the hunt for a cheap but well made hatchet, any suggestions would be wonderful!
What price would you consider “budget”? Fiskars makes a synthetic handle hatched that I like.
You can also get an Estwing hatchet with either a rubber or stacked leather handle for around $40.
Discussion about Fiskars hatchet
Never used their hatchet, but man I love the full size Fiskar. It splits logs like a boss
A buddy has one at his cabin. I laughed at it when I picked it up. I bought one and the hatchet when I got home.
I dig the Fiskars hatchet I’ve used it for years and it’s sharp as fuck.
Fiskars are wonderful. If you are looking for a wooden budget, look at marbles though smkw.
Discussion about choosing between hatchets and folding saws
I've been seeing small folding saws that look like more efficient tools that take less space and weight.
Comparison of tools for camping efficiency
Hatchets are fun for messing around, but a saw is much more useful, especially when you have a knife already.

Discussion about other hatchet brands
Best bushcraft/survival hatchet
Personnally i just bought an old ( but well made ) hatchet at a flea market , sharpened it until it could cut paper , sanded , polished and oiled the handle and voilà : 3 euro super hatchet.
nice, but personally have not seen a good one
Eastwing offers several options and for the money not bad.
Humorous comments about the chicken story
The head's right there next to it.
I chuckled. Thanks
