Not for you? Check out our other rated

A hand mixer is perfectly fine to start with for baking as long as you are mixing things like cake batter, whipped cream, brownie batter, creaming butter and eggs together, mixing cookie dough, etc.

Positive Feedback

I find that I need to stop it every 20 seconds to scrape the attachment (paddle with the scraper on it) as well as the sides of the bowl.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Hand mixer is adequate for beginner baking tasks
A hand mixer is perfectly fine to start with for baking as long as you are mixing things like cake batter, whipped cream, brownie batter, creaming butter and eggs together, mixing cookie dough, etc.
Absolutely. The only thing the hand mixer likely can’t handle would be denser, bread dough.
Durable and long-lasting
It's great that they've built things to last.
Hand mixer is a favorite tool for users
This mixer will make everything so much easier.
My professional series from 2011 is still going strong and I use it frequently for dough, general baking, and several attachments.
Hand mixer is convenient for smaller tasks
lots of jobs are simpler, easier, and quicker, to just use a hand mixer.
Hand mixer is useful for casual baking
Do you really need 9 speeds, or is 5 sufficient?
For casual baking, I would go with the less expensive mixer.
5 speed will be fine.
Hand mixer is appreciated for its speed options
The 6 speed is fantastic. Its like riding a bike and then getting a porsche.
Durable and long-lasting product
I've had mine 30 years. Hubby has changed the grease once in all that time.
I've had mine for almost 20 years still working like a champ.
If I can do it, anyone can.
Effective for making dough and baking
I do a little bit of hand kneading still for some recipes, but it’s less sticky than it used to be.
Helpful for whipping cream and butter
Amd whipped cream is so much easier.
I use the whisk attachment to make butter
Convenient speed options for various tasks
Paddle to cream.
I have ice cream attachment which I love. I also have the shredder attachment which makes grating a block of cheese so fast.
Color variety appreciated by users
They really are beautiful, aren't they? Much better than an AH ex, lol.
I love the pink color! When I went to purchase my hand mixer, I wanted this color, but I got stuck with mint.
Effective for lighter doughs like pastry and pie crusts
I used the cheapest hand mixer a few times when i started out with bread making and it works just fine.
Works better than my stand mixer in my opinion
Cordless model convenience
the convenience of the cordless model is fantastic—I often find myself picking it up for tasks I would normally use a whisk for, like beating a few eggs
Great investment for active kitchens
It has been great and a worthwhile investment.
I still use mine almost every week.
we are seeking "old and forgotten yet superior technology".
Love for the KitchenAid mixer
I absolutely love my KA mixer and it’s one of my favorite kitchen items I own.
Built to last and durable
The mixer is DEFINITELY built better than my car. If I could drive the mixer, I'd throw the Fiat in the dumpster.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Frequent stopping needed to scrape attachments and bowl
I find that I need to stop it every 20 seconds to scrape the attachment (paddle with the scraper on it) as well as the sides of the bowl.
The meat grinder attachment is fantastic and I suspect it would easily beat out any standing mixer for that purpose.
Older models struggle with tougher mixtures
I bought the rechargeable immersion blender that is so powerful and it has so much power.
Cuisinart is perceived as stronger and quieter
my Cuisinart is too fast and too noisy.
Struggles with tougher mixtures
Not impressed in the least.
It overheats easily and really jiggles around whenever it's running and recently I was kneading some dough and speed 4 and the motor completely burnt out.
Issues with overheating during use
The gold standard has always been a Hobart N50.
Heating issues during use
the motor gets hot and smokes a bit.
Potential electrical problems
Thanks I may do that, the second time we used it we had it short out electrically.
Newer models made with subpar materials
The new mixers are made with subpar materials and are speed controlled with really crappy electronics.
Perception of weaker performance compared to older models
The Artisan series appears to just be the K45 with a more powerful motor and a nicer bowl.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about cake decoration and sprinkles
Oh, I just love how the top of the cake looks with the sprinkles and everything.
Also that sprinkle trick I will definitely consider next time I need to make a birthday cake haha
Curiosity about the mixer and its features
No pictures of the “mixer” :( was it just a person you call mixer?
Discussion about personal experiences with various mixers
The whisks wash in the dishwasher with no sign of use.
I am an occasional but mostly holiday baker.
I have the whole bunch of KitchenAid in the boysenberry.
Discussion on adjusting mixer speed for better performance
If you’re stopping every **20 seconds**, you may be using butter that is the wrong temp and/or the speed may be too low.
Increase the speed a bit. I normally start my butter and sugar on speed 2 to combine them, then do a quick scrape and run between speed 4-6 for creaming depending on what I’m making.
Haven't seen this mentioned yet but try adjusting the clearance on your mixer
Comparison of hand mixers and stand mixers for various tasks
Do no underestimate the power of a Kitchenaid.
Discussion on the quality of older KitchenAid mixers compared to modern ones
Especially considering modern Kitchen Aid mixers are way lower quality and use plastic parts.
I took my K45SS apart last year to replace the grease in it.
I thought I read somewhere that the nylon gears were intended to be an intentional failure point protect the motor if anything goes wrong.
Comparisons between mixers and their performance
it's been the best thing ever. The design is so different to a cheap one that I'm rarely having to scrape bowls to make sure everything gets incorporated and it handles bread dough like a trooper.
Discussion about mixer wattage and power differences
My question is about internal quality. Can anyone discuss the difference in inner parts between these two models? Do we actually know if the 'professional' version is more heavy duty in part quality?
The KHM926 appears to be rated at 100 watts. Maybe it’s more powerful? I’ve been going back and forth on a hand mixer and many of the reviews on the 926 variation say it’s underpowered.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Excitement about using a hand mixer after years of baking by hand
After 20 years of baking by hand, I got a hand mixer! It is banana flavoured with strawberry inbetween the layers :)
😍 Did you make this amazingness simply to celebrate getting a mixer?
Discussion about gifting used mixers creatively
I thought about solutions like painting it but all in all it seemed better to sell it of FB marketplace and buy a new one in the color I want.
What if you fill up the bowl with a few upper tier baking ingredients? Or a few smaller, new kitchen items that would further enhance his baking experience?
This could be a good idea. I don’t even personally have any attachments for the mixer because I find them very kitschy.
It's like turning the mixer into a gift basket. Lol
Curiosity about mixer attachments and their uses
Made panettone one time the first year and killed it.
I really wanna buy the ice cream attachment 😍
Curiosity about additional attachments and their uses
Are KitchenAid mixers really worth it? I'm thinking about getting a KitchenAid Artisan mixer, and I was wondering it it really is worth the money.
Sentiment about restoring and valuing older mixers
Beautiful restore and a thoughtful gift!
Agreed, would much rather have something thoughtful and repaired/restored like this than an out of the box Black Friday special.
Ikr? It's not just the thought that went into this gift. Anyone can buy something if you have the plastic. But to make the time to restore or build something is a higher level of caring and love.
Any kitchen aid mixer from a thrift store is definitely worth repairing.
Discussion about restoring and painting older mixers
Found this KitchenAid mixer from the 1970's for $35. New grease and paint and it's as good as new.
Believe it or not it's rustoleum. I believe the color is called Seafoam. After that I put a strong clear coat on top.
Looks like teal
Two is a mix of green and blue. This is just powder blue.

Discussion about comparing hand mixers and stand mixers
Kitchenaid hand mixer vs the real deal Hi!! I desperately need opinions!
Makes sense to use the stand mixer more ofc! Yeah like I said, we don’t have our own place & he isn’t CONSTANTLY baking (really just when he’s at my house), he doesn’t really cook on his own so i’m not sure if it’s worth getting the stand mixer just yet. Baby steps
Obviously the stand mixer is what he really wants/'needs' and is the ultimate goal. Also obvious (well maybe not to him) is that stand mixers need a permanent home and not to be lugged from place to place.
You really can't compare the two. His eyes are on the stand mixer, a bowl lift is the better one. He knows what he wants and why.
Personal experiences and preferences in using mixers
Thing about a stand mixer is that you can let it do its thing while you prep/ clean/ do whatever random tasks/ just make a happy dance and sing into a makeshift microphone… I have rheumatism, so for me not having to hold a mixer is a game changer.
Comparative ratings of KitchenAid and other brands
the Hamilton Beach is much cheaper for, according to CR, basically the same rating.
Advice on using low speed to prevent mess when mixing
If you start on a really low speed after adding your dry and then increase speed after its slightly mixed in, it won’t fly everywhere.
Discussion about the necessity of a hand mixer versus a stand mixer
If you already have a stand mixer then I think not.
Does anyone own a kitchen Aid hand mixer?
Very much so welcome, this is r/KitchenAid, not r/KitchenAidStandMixer lol.
Snap up those old models if you see em! RIP KitchenAid
Discussion about mixer speed preferences
After the gift cards it was only $12.26!
Personal anecdotes about baking journeys
Get the mixer.
Pretty much.
Humorous anecdotes about mixer mishaps
I had a kitchen aid fly off the counter when I turned my back and take a chunk out of my flooring with a single loafs worth of dough.
Discussion about personal experiences with mixers
Trying to decide between KitchenAid 5 or 9 speed hand mixer? I have a KitchenAid stand mixer that I couldn't live without, but want something for smaller jobs.
For an "Average Everyday-Joe" like You, I'd recommend you sticking with a 5 speed there... It's a whole lotta better.... than a usin your own petty muscle strength!
Comments about the cost of new KitchenAid mixers
new these retail for $500CAD, although you can get them 40% off of you buy at the right time.
if you actually pay that you've made a mistake
Clarification on differences between mixer models
The KHM926CU is a little lighter in color and comes with beaters that have thicker tines.
Discussion about finding KitchenAid mixers at discounted prices
My family don't understand my excitement. I got this mixer for $150 today. It's a kitchenaid professional 5 plus.
Lol no I didn't. I paid cash. A local gentleman bought a storage unit that was auctioned off for nonpayment. He found 2 kitchenaids.
That’s a score! I love it! I got a bowl from FB marketplace for $25 and a whisk and paddle attachment from Amazon for $27.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Comments on butter temperature affecting mixing efficiency
Ahhh it could maybe be the speed? I had the right temp of butter… at least what has always been right in the past for me 😅
Discussion about experiences with hand mixers vs. stand mixers
My sunbeam is going on 15 years. I’m praying for that damn thing to die so I can justify a KA 😩😂
Humorous comments about the mixer experience
This is the only answer. It will outlive you and any children you may have 😂
This is the only answer. I love my kitchenaid. It's a beast.
A pirate goes to the doctor's office. During the exam, the pirate disrobes, and the doctor notices a 240v KitchenAid Tilt-Head Stand Mixer Motor Field Assembly attached to the patient's crotch.
Discussion about dough hydration affecting mixer performance
But it seems that I'll just have to settle for classic elbow grease.
Users express fond memories and experiences with the hand mixer
I have had this for going on FIFTEEN years and it works just as well as the day I got it.
Discussion on the longevity of older mixers
They're no joke.
