What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Hand mixers are suitable for various baking tasks
A hand mixer is perfectly fine to start with for baking as long as you are mixing things like cake batter, whipped cream, brownie batter, creaming butter and eggs together, mixing cookie dough, etc.
Absolutely. The only thing the hand mixer likely can’t handle would be denser, bread dough.
Handy for smaller jobs
this one is handy for smaller jobs or whipping cream.
Durable and long-lasting
This is the only answer. It will outlive you and any children you may have 😂
I've had mine 30 years. Hubby has changed the grease once in all that time. Not just bread, but we have the pasta and sausage attachments. And I have one party recipe that requires 10 egg whites beaten to stiff peaks...
I have had this for going on FIFTEEN years and it works just as well as the day I got it. So many memories with this little mixer!
Effective for mixing tasks with speed adjustments
Increase the speed a bit.
The kitchen aide mixer is my favorite tool in the world, (second favorite is a miter saw) :)
Versatile with multiple attachments
Mine is almost 30 years old, never had a problem.
Beautiful design and aesthetics
They really are beautiful, aren't they? Much better than an AH ex, lol.
I really wanna buy the ice cream attachment 😍
Convenience of cordless model
the convenience of the cordless model is fantastic—I often find myself picking it up for tasks I would normally use a whisk for, like beating a few eggs
Great investment for active kitchen use
It has been great and a worthwhile investment.
I still use mine almost every week.
Loved for its usefulness in baking
I absolutely love my KA mixer and it’s one of my favorite kitchen items I own.
Convenience of having both hand and stand mixers
Anyone own a kitchen Aid hand mixer? Hi I own a kitchen aid stand mixer & love it.
I love the option of having both, don't want to drag the stand one out for everything.
5 speed mixer is sufficient for simple tasks
I only have the 5 speed and I love it.
Thank you! I would also consider the 5 speed.
I have the 5 speed and it's been a great gadget to have.
Great color options available
I love the pink color! When I went to purchase my hand mixer, I wanted this color, but I got stuck with mint.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Can struggle with heavy doughs
Not impressed in the least.
the motor completely burnt out.
Issues with overheating
Kitchen-Aid specifically says in their manuals to knead dough at speed 2 and that anything higher creates a potential for failure.
Requires frequent scraping of bowl
I haven’t had too much issue with the dough hook other then the stop start to scrap.
I mostly use it for cookies and pie dough, got brave a few months ago and made bread for the first time.
Ineffective for kneading bread dough
Works better than my stand mixer in my opinion
Struggles with larger dough sizes
I used the cheapest hand mixer a few times when i started out with bread making and it works just fine.
Concerns about battery life and reliability
Cordless mixers sound like they are trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist… by creating new problems.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Comparison with other brands
note that the same shape comes with different wattages, go for mid to high wattage if you can afford to.
I am an occasional but mostly holiday baker.
Discussion of color options
I have the KitchenAid in purple lol
Bowl cover deemed unnecessary by some users
I never use the bowl cover because its just in the way. If you start on a really low speed after adding your dry and then increase speed after its slightly mixed in, it won’t fly everywhere.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Hand mixers are useful for small tasks
a hand mixer is certainly a useful tool.
Stand mixers are preferred for larger tasks
The stand mixer has been a game changer.
You really can't compare the two.
Preference for hand mixers for small jobs
Looking at reviews for both, I'm just not sure if I need the 5 or 9 speed.
Preference for both hand and stand mixers for different applications
They both are great for different applications and I suggest them highly.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Traveling with a stand mixer is impractical
You could give him one as a sign of your admiration for his hobby, of your love, and of your hope for a future together, if that's where you are as a couple.
Preference for stand mixers due to convenience
Thing about a stand mixer is that you can let it do its thing while you prep/ clean/ do whatever random tasks/ just make a happy dance and sing into a makeshift microphone… I have rheumatism, so for me not having to hold a mixer is a game changer.
Hand mixers are preferred for beginners
I want to learn how to make sweets like cookies and cakes and many more.
Stand mixers are more suitable for larger tasks
and start saving for a stand mixer!
Preference for storage solutions for attachments
I would have very much appreciated spoke sort of storage solution for the whisk/beater/dough hook attachments.
Comparison to immersion blenders and stand mixers
If you already have a stand mixer then I think not.
Most smaller batches of cakes and frostings.
Preference for lower speed models among casual bakers
For casual baking, I would go with the less expensive mixer.
Comparison with Cuisinart hand mixer
After the gift cards it was only $12.26!
Discussion on the practicality of hand mixers versus stand mixers
People really are spoiled today and have no idea how awesome these mixers are.
Comparison to hand mixers and other brands
Hand mixer is still dang impressive.
Discussion on ease of use for beginners
Never again, kitchenaid mafia 4 life
FFFFFFFFFFACTS. I ALMOST WEPT WHEN I REALIZED THE MAGIC OF THE KITCHENAID MIXER AND REALIZING HOW MANY YEARS I HAD WASTED DOING ALL OF THAT STUFF BY HAND OMG
Discussion on investment value and attachment costs
They are kinda pricey, especially considering the cost of all the extra attachments.
Users discuss alternatives to KitchenAid
I’ve actually had my Hamilton Beach hand mixer for like 6 years, using it for whipping and frostings and cookie doughs and it’s held up super well.
Good idea! I will have to try that!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on gifting a used KitchenAid mixer
I’m just worried it’s going to look like I’m giving my hand-me-downs for Christmas when I do actually think it’s a pretty nice gift.
What if you fill up the bowl with a few upper tier baking ingredients? Or a few smaller, new kitchen items that would further enhance his baking experience?
This could be a good idea. I don’t even personally have any attachments for the mixer because I find them very kitschy.
It's like turning the mixer into a gift basket. Lol
Mixed feelings about newer models' durability
I've had mine for almost 20 years still working like a champ.
Preference for stand mixers for heavy-duty tasks
No text content
None effective. Unless some of the high end mixer I see, $100+, AND you can hold on to it, I don't see any of them doing anything like remotely working with bread dough.
Discussion about mixing limitations and experiences
Yeah... I see what you mean now. The flour we get here are not great in developing gluten and I was looking for an easy way out.
The dynamic torque specs (700 ft-lbs) for my Milwaukee impact are actually comparable to my 1.3 HP KitchenAid…
Preference for stand mixers for larger tasks
Very much so welcome, this is r/KitchenAid, not r/KitchenAidStandMixer lol.
Discussion on the value of stand mixers versus hand mixers
Why are stand mixers so expensive? Isn't it just a mixing bowl with electric beaters attached?
My old one burnt out making cookie dough.
General concerns about hand mixer quality
I only use it for small jobs like whipping egg whites, making frosting, etc.
Discussion about the longevity of hand mixers
Working great, build quality is noticeable, but can't yet speak to longevity.
Preference for corded mixers over cordless
hand mixer- corded or cordless? any recommendations if cordless hand mixers are just as good quality as corded models, thanks
I don’t have experience with a cordless mixer, but for something that you’re literally standing in one place while using, I don’t think I’d give up the steady power of a corded unit.
I have never needed to be mobile while making whipped cream. Also, wouldn't want to have to worry about going to use it and the battery being dead.
Definitely corded. They last forever. I had a well used one for 20 years.
