Mine has a gauge and I literally stare at it the whole time. Mostly I can fish, which takes 100 minutes.

Positive Feedback

a pot with a locking lid that doesn’t let out pressure properly sounds like shitty design whichever way you spin it.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Modern electric pressure cookers have many safety features
Mine has a gauge and I literally stare at it the whole time. Mostly I can fish, which takes 100 minutes.
"hey how you wanna cook this food"
Luckily the ones they make now are generally a lot safer. Mine has a silicon plug in the lid that blows out if it's over pressure, it would be really hard to clog because it's just a section of the lid it also has two different safety blowoff valves and it locks when under pressure to prevent opening.
I found a manual pressure cooker at a garage sale a few times... They're fucking scary. I feel much better with an electric cooker, set it to high pressure and walk away until it beeps at me to say it's done.
Electric cookers are easy to use and convenient
They just seemed terrifying to me & like there were 'too many steps' & too much could go wrong but after I got an instant pot, I fell in love & realized they were pretty easy to use.
Yeah I know I'm just being silly. I have a instant pot ultra and I use it at least once a week for the last four years.
Modern pressure cookers are extremely safe
modern ones cannot explode like this. There's a rubber plug in the top that will shoot out if pressure gets too high, as well as a weight that sits on top of a permanently open spout that will shoot off if it gets too high.
my great great great aunt was badly injured by a pressure canner exploding, killed by a boiler exploding a number of years later (1930s i think)
Modern pressure cookers are extremely safe. I would guess this was an antique
Additionally, if you get something like an instant pot, it has its own heating element. That means it can self regulate it's temperature rather than just relying on safety features to kick in.
Pressure cookers cook food faster
They require much less heat to cook.
User-friendly design with intuitive controls
It is almost impossible to clog a safety valve like that and have it fail.
So my meal took closer to an hour to cook....still it's shorter than doing it the non-PC way.
Fast cooking time for beans and meats
Being able to skip soaking beans for 24 hours and just eat them in an hour is one of my favourite uses for mine.
Cooks food faster
Pressure cookers will let you cook faster and do make a difference.

Unsafe design with glass lid
a pot with a locking lid that doesn’t let out pressure properly sounds like shitty design whichever way you spin it.
Yeah, I ain't gonna trust some pressure cooker with a glass top either (at least I'm not aware of any good ones with a glass cover).
I was like "hmmm seems like a really shitty quality pressure cooker."
And a horribly unsafe design.
Poor pressure retention
It has a see-through lid that’s not gonna hold much pressure
I feel ripped off it wasn’t
Honestly. The fact it barely popped when he opened it tells me this pot can barely hold an asthmatic senior's breath worth of pressure
I feel like my Instant Pot holds a lot more pressure than that.
Concerns about older models being unsafe
Theres some older ones ones literally can build up enough pressure that the material itself fails and essentially becomes a bomb/grenade.
Concerns about safety with older models
This is my worst fucking nightmare with using my Nanny's old pressure cooker.
Fear of pressure cookers exploding
Very valid fear! I had an industrial sized pressure cooker explode on me while I was directly beside it.
Honestly the literal only reason I haven’t gotten one. Like it makes beef soooo soft but the fear of spontaneous explosions is just borderline paralysing
I lived in dread of the pressure cookers my mom used when I was growing up.
Potential for user error leading to accidents
Too many fools around to make things fool proof.
Stuck release valves are the culprits in these explosions. Clean them.

When I was a small kid, one of those blew up in the kitchen due to a clogged valve. My mom and I were traumatized.

Discussion on differences between pressure cookers and Instant Pots
I was wondering if I need just a pressure cooker or an Instant Pot like device.
A pressure cooker is a manually operated Instant Pot.
Instapot is just the brand name.
Instant Pot: easy to use: set your settings and leave the kitchen, you can set a timer, make yoghurt.
Discussion on pressure cooking times
It makes like the important 80 % of a meal.
Comparison of rice cooker and pressure cooker functionalities
Does the instant pot cook the rice at a higher pressure, or does cook with the pressure valve open?
Honestly I don’t think it’s as good as a rice cooker for rice but it’s 1,000 times more flexible and the rice is decent.
a rice cooker is just so much less of a faff to cook rice.
Rice cooker for rice 100%.
Discussion on cooking times for pork in a pressure cooker
Yikes, cooking at 15lbs of pressure for an hour will give you pork soup.
Interesting, I initially read this as using a slow cooker which I just did the other day.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on pressure cooker safety
Yeah they make bombs out of pressure cookers
Have you tried turning counterclockwise? Mr.Carrots?
No i just get a new lid after I shear the locking lugs off each time
Still using a 1930s pressure canner (from National Pressure Cooker Co.) that's been used by my family for 5 generations
General discussion on pressure cooker safety
WCGW trying to open a pressure cooker without losing the pressure inside.
I'm using mine in 5 hours rip
Turns your junk from an outie to an innie.
Concerns about electric pressure canner safety
which electric pressure canner do you recommend? I have done water bath canning for years and finally feel ready to graduate to pressure canning, but I'm not ready for a stove top canner yet.
I only know of one that might be safe, made by Presto, but it has not been verified by the USDA, and Presto is not sharing its research and development about the product yet.
A stove top with a weighted gauge is truly safest, and incredibly easy.
Presto has been softly reviewed by UW extension for tested recipes.
