Are small carabiners worth it? My rack is mostly big old heavy shit.

Positive Feedback

Haven't used the small ange but I find the single wire thing weird to use.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Lightweight design
Are small carabiners worth it? My rack is mostly big old heavy shit.
The main benefit of smaller carabiners is how light they are.
I love mine, but all I hear from followers are complaints.
Opinions on sport specific quickdraws. As someone who only sport climbs and boulders, is it worth investing in some sport specific quickdraws such as BD Freewire, or just using all round draws?
Good for racking
I find wire gates or solid bent gates easier to clip the rope.
I prefer my draws already hung.
Durable and easy to clip
they're not the world's lightest draws, but they're super durable, and really easy to clip.
I like the djinn better, I find them easier to clip.
Snag-free biners enhance ease of clipping
having a snag-free biner is awesome for when you extend it.
Clean nose design aids in easier cleaning
A bent gate can be easier to clip the rope into.
Big thick dogbone
No more twisting draws making things backclipped.

Some find the single wire design awkward
Haven't used the small ange but I find the single wire thing weird to use.
I am personally not a fan of the BD Freewires. They just feel cheap for some reason.
Experience of getting nose hooked
I've had a few bad experiences with them getting nose hooked when I really needed them to come off.
Some users find usability of certain designs awkward
keylock on bolt side for easier cleaning. Nose hook on rope side for lower chance of accidental un-clipping.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on features and preferences for quickdraws
Overall don't throw too much money on this, there are pieces of gear which are more worth spending on (helmet, good harness etc)
If safety is your thing, technically wire gates are slightly safer because they are harder to come out when the gate is being pushed down, or something.
Black Diamond Gear Myths: To Oppose or Not to Oppose Your Quickdraws Biners
With the gates facing the same direction, if you pay attention to which side of the bolt you are climbing on, you can place the draw so that only the spines of the biners will be against the rock.
General conversation about climbing gear
True but nobody takes big fat nylon quickdraws like the one described here ice climbing :)
no. Alpine draws have less of a use for ice climbing because usually your lines are straighter and you usually climb with double ropes.
Preference for keylock biners for reduced weight
Keylock, Keylock, Keylock.
Ended up going with the all keylock set and this just reaffirmed my decision so thanks!
Discussion about the benefits of wiregates over traditional gates
I have about 8 or so of them. Honestly, they're my favorite to use.
They have taken a beating and are really easy to clip and are light weight.

Discussion about trying different kinds of carabiners
Do what I did and buy one each of a few different kinds to try them out
That was kinda my plan, but I don't wanna have a bunch of random gear that I don't like.
Thinking about it now, my sport rack is turning into the same thing....
Discussion on preferences for quickdraw types
Do most people use alpine draws for ice climbing?
I prefer solid gate because they feel like the open smoother to me, but it really doesn’t matter.
Discussion on preferences for quickdraw brands
There are always sales going on, like 20% off here and there, but when are the "end of the season" sales?
Petzl djinn are great too.
I just look for sales and am not really brand loyal (target is $10/draw).
If anyone is on a tighter budget and is willing to wait for a sale on some cheap but solid quickdraws, every so often on amazon The Gear Coop puts a 5-pack of camp wire gate quickdraws on sale.
Discussion about swapping carabiners in quickdraws
Can you put different carabiners in a quickdraw (aka swap them out for new ones)?
you can replace the carabiners on a quickdraw usually without issue, unless the rubber band that secures the rope side biner is too tight for the spine of the new biner to fit through.

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
General conversation on price differences for climbing gear
Why buy more expensive quickdraws? I want to buy some new quickdraws, but the prices range from around 8€ a piece to 25€ a piece.
General conversation about choosing climbing gear
I'm looking into the Black Diamond HotWire Quickdraws and I was wondering what peoples views were on them?
Advice on choosing appropriate dogbones for quickdraws
They keep the gates oriented the right way, and will stay more organized on your harness.
Comparison with other brands
They're on sale at bentgate right now. Theyre significantly cheaper at the sale price, but their shape is slightly different then the bd biners
Preference for different quickdraw brands
thanks! I was also eyeing up the Spirits as well but I don't know if he'd prefer the bent or straight gates

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about equipment safety with quickdraws
Bought some Black Diamond LiteWire quickdraws, what is the manual trying to say here?
Static gear - as for quickdraws - must never be used with fall factor 1 or 2.
Quick draws use short dynama/nylon slings that have no stretch in them.
the issue is when using a piece of static gear - like a quickdraw - to attach yourself to a piece of fixed protection.
Discussion on replacement of old gear
Given that you're supposed to replace any soft gear after 5 years
Yes, runners like the ones you linked will work fine.
Clarification on gear safety and replacement
Did you read the rest of your source?
General warnings about gear safety
People tend to use thicker dogbones for sport as they quite often end up pulling on them when redpointing routes, thin and light ones for trad as the gear is less likely to be used to pull on.
