Snag-free biners improve unclipping
Why buy more expensive quickdraws? I want to buy some new quickdraws, but the prices range from around 8€ a piece to 25€ a piece.
The only place I really notice a big difference between expensive biners and cheap biners is on the rope side of of alpine draws - having a snag-free biner is awesome for when you extend it.
Clean nose design aids in cleaning
Having the nose not make as an aggressive "hook" makes it so that you don't have to twist the biner as much when clipping.
Recommended by experienced climbers
Most of the sport climbers I know just told me to buy the cheapest set (eq$85 CDN for a pack of 6).
There is a reason most of the sport climbers gave you the same advice you'll get here.
I've climbed with Mad Rocks quickdraws before and forgot they made them—good suggestion, thanks!
Excellent for stick clipping
this is the best thing ever for stick clipping.
Good fit for various rope sizes in belay devices
Love the device because it fits 9 to 12mm rope which makes belaying on janky gym ropes a lot nicer.
Affordable quality for climbing gear
Their crash pads are certainly not as nice as the top of the line, but I've put mine through hell and it's held up.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Thin dogbones can twist easily for beginners
these ones get easy to backclip for beginners for some reason.
Wire gates with hook noses can get hung up
What isn't personal preference is the hook noses, especially on the bolt side carabiners.
Wire gates with hook noses are a pain all around on both sides, including if you're cleaning for a pink point (unhooking the rope but leaving the draws).
Petzel quickdraws are recommended over Beals
If that’s all the feedback you want - anything UIAA rated for climbing will be fine.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Safety certifications are a must for quickdraws
Overall don't throw too much money on this, there are pieces of gear which are more worth spending on (helmet, good harness etc)
Preference for wire gates vs. solid gates
I didn't feel any problem climbing outdoor with wiregate draws.
Preference for Petzl draws over others.
You can't get better draws than Petzl makes.
Discussion about the Mad Rock series being good
Good quick draws inquiry? What are some good (and hopefully cheap) quick draws on the market right now.
Not cheap, but the best draws I have used are the DMM Alpha's. OMG, yummy clipping action, the rope just falls in.
You're not wrong! My partner uses them, and I just got 6 DMM Alpha Sport draws for Christmas, and they are just glorious.
Mention of other brands like DMM and Petzl
Petzl Djinn are pretty cheap in a 6 pack and nice quality if you are into solid gates.
Importance of keylock nose for cleaning
Regardless of your budget, the one feature I would not do without is a keylock nose on the bolt side biner.
General consensus on Mad Rock gear quality
Mainly carabiners and quick draws.
Preference for keylock design for convenience
More expensive but more convenient.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Variety in quickdraw pricing and features
Any major brand is fine and there isn't any real difference.
There are actually 0 make or break features on QDs, only preference.
Preference for specific gate types based on climbing style
keylock on bolt side for easier cleaning. Nose hook on rope side for lower chance of accidental un-clipping.
Curiosity about sales timing for quickdraws
There are always sales going on, like 20% off here and there, but when are the 'end of the season' sales?
Discussion about preferences for quickdraw brands
Petzl djinn are great too.
Everyone has their preferences for draws.
If anyone is on a tighter budget and is willing to wait for a sale on some cheap but solid quickdraws, every so often on amazon The Gear Coop puts a 5-pack of camp wire gate quickdraws on sale
just pickup the black diamond set that is on closeout now.
Discussion on quickdraw pricing and quality
The Petzl Spirit is one of the best designed carbineers their is!!
Preference for budget options and used gear
Used gear is just as good as new and far far cheaper.
the camp ones go on sale a lot.
Curiosity about other gym products with similar tech.
There's more things to rope lasting long than thickness, especially for ropes from similar categorie
Preference for personal style influences quickdraw choice
I recommend the cheapest set, like previous posters. They should all be appropriately rated regardless of cost so the difference then just becomes personal preference.
I prefer to climb with longer quickdraws. Something like the Camp Nano 22 Express KS 20 cm. Sure, you'll fall another few inches when you take a fall, but the extra few inches will drastically reduce rope drag when the bolts aren't perfectly lined up on a route.
Discussion about promotional deals on quickdraws
Pretty good deal on quick draws!
Discussion about budget options for climbing gear
Quickdraws on a budget? I hope this is ok to ask here.
Get the mad rock ones. I got them $45/ 6 pack.
I got them on sale for under $50 as well and they are awesome. Cheap, light, good action.
Importance of UIAA approval in quickdraw selection
I assume sport, anything from a major manufacture that is UIAA approved will work.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Curiosity about other gym products with similar tech
Yeah that was interesting to learn! Now I'm curious how many other gym products have this tech as well.
Discussion about the lifespan of climbing gear.
How long do ropes and quickdraws last? I recently went outside for the first time with some friends and sport climbed.
A friend who worked at Western Mountaineering told me that a Petzl rep claimed that Petzl put a rope in a dark, dry closet for five years.
With rope, it really depends on how much you use it, how much abuse it takes etc.
Ropes, I generally expect between 6 months to 2 years.
General dissatisfaction with Petzl ropes.
The Simond still looks perfect.
Discussion about preferences for quickdraw brands.
Both ropes should be fine.
General praise for Camp Orbit wire quickdraws
Great clipping action.
