Good value for money
Quickdraw brand recommendation Hey guys! I am going to start outdoor climbing soon.
Why buy more expensive quickdraws? I want to buy some new quickdraws, but the prices range from around 8€ a piece to 25€ a piece.
I’ve narrowed my choices down to the Petzl Spirit and Djinn quickdraws.
I’ve decided to get the Spirits (huzzah!) since it seems like nobody has anything negative to say about them.
Durable with keylock feature
keylock on bolt side for easier cleaning. Nose hook on rope side for lower chance of accidental un-clipping.
Love love love my Spirits. Not really sure what the difference is aside from color and width of dogbone.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for clean nose biners for easier cleaning
having a snag-free biner is awesome for when you extend it.
One thing other people haven't mentioned is the angle of the nose on the biner.
Preference for different lengths of quickdraws
Part of it, is your taste and what you feel more comfortable with, but you should be able to choose between different lengths when working a route.
The Spirits are my favorite draws! Tons of good info here already <3 I generally get mostly 12cm and a few 17cm for weird clips.
Once I fell in love with it I got myself an 80m 9.8 edelrid 6 17cm quickdraws 4 12cm and 2 slings.
Quickdraws: You'll want 10-12. I personally like Petzl Djinns, but any sport draws will suit you just fine.
Discussion on climbing gear recommendations
God only knows what you’ll get.
General discussion about climbing gear and preferences
Thanks, one more questions though. Do I buy the quickdraws at different lengths? Or do I have to buy a separate dogbone.

Discussion on life expectancy of climbing gear
Because of this I'm considering getting a rope and draws.
Ropes are organic compounds, they degrade over time.
With rope, it really depends on how much you use it, how much abuse it takes etc.
Ropes, I generally expect between 6 months to 2 years.
Clarification on fixed gear meaning
My question: What do they mean when they talk about fixed gear? Just bolts screwed into the wall? Or bolts with quickdraws attached?
they are not taking a stance against bolts.
fixed gear is stuff that basically got drilled/hammered into the wall.
Discussion on quickdraw lengths for different climbing scenarios
It's nice to have the option of extending them sometimes to reduce drag or in funky spots on overhanging stuff.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Preference varies among brands
Any major brand is fine and there isn't any real difference.
There are actually 0 make or break features on QDs, only preference.
Skinner’s not doing super well, but the Oilers D is also playing poorly.
Safety considerations vary with design
Only one I wouldn’t recommend is anything with the thin dogbone because these ones get easy to backclip for beginners for some reason.
Preference for Petzl quickdraws over others
You can't get better draws than Petzl makes.
Discussion on mixing brands
Wouldn’t say I have a go-to because each company makes some unique pieces and I like variety.
General preference for reputable brands
Buy whatever is on sale and fits your needs.
Discussion on the risks of fixed quickdraws
I'm definitely not using any fixed quick draws anymore.
