The only place I really notice a big difference between expensive biners and cheap biners is on the rope side of of alpine draws - having a snag-free biner is awesome for when you extend it.

Positive Feedback

I've had a few bad experiences with them getting nose hooked when I really needed them to come off.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Snag-free design enhances clipping ease
The only place I really notice a big difference between expensive biners and cheap biners is on the rope side of of alpine draws - having a snag-free biner is awesome for when you extend it.
Clean nose design on bolt side for easier cleaning
Having the nose not make as an aggressive "hook" makes it so that you don't have to twist the biner as much when clipping.
Preference for hooded nose wire biners
There are always sales going on, like 20% off here and there, but when are the "end of the season" sales?
Spirits are awesome. If you are a wire-gate guy though OP I would get the BD Livewires.
Preferred wiregate design for easy clipping
Ended up going with the all keylock set and this just reaffirmed my decision so thanks!
Keylock design enhances usability
Keylock, Keylock, Keylock.
Big thick dogbone enhances usability
No more twisting draws making things backclipped.
Good balance of lightness and robustness in quickdraws
The beal zest are my favorite quickdraws. Good combination of light and still robust.

Concerns about quickdraws getting nose hooked
I've had a few bad experiences with them getting nose hooked when I really needed them to come off.
Wiregates can get hung up due to hook noses
What isn't personal preference is the hook noses, especially on the bolt side carabiners.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Variety in quickdraw brands and features
Quickdraw brand recommendation Hey guys! I am going to start outdoor climbing soon.
Any major brand is fine and there isn't any real difference.
There are actually 0 make or break features on QDs, only preference.
All of them have to pass a certification, choose a good brand.
Variety in quickdraw preferences
Opinions on sport specific quickdraws. As someone who only sport climbs and boulders, is it worth investing in some sport specific quickdraws such as BD Freewire, or just using all round draws?
Purchase the draws you like.
Keynose are worth the money. The rest is just style.
Discussion on specific brands
They just feel cheap for some reason.
Preference for types of carabiners for specific climbing situations
keylock on bolt side for easier cleaning. Nose hook on rope side for lower chance of accidental un-clipping.
Discussion on quickdraw options and preferences
I'm looking into the Black Diamond HotWire Quickdraws and I was wondering what peoples views were on them?
really helpful website.
General discussion about quickdraw options
Can anyone recommend them? I was planning to buy Petzl's quickdraws but they are a bit expensive.
I use Petzl djinns and would definitely recommend them for sport climbing.
Sounds like the beal's draws are a very good option for me.
Discussion about replacing carabiners in quickdraws
Can you put different carabiners in a quickdraw (aka swap them out for new ones)?
you can replace the carabiners on a quickdraw usually without issue, unless the rubber band that secures the rope side biner is too tight for the spine of the new biner to fit through.
Inquiry about preferences for different carabiner types
thanks! I was also eyeing up the Spirits as well but I don't know if he'd prefer the bent or straight gates
Discussion about a new ultralight pack release
Having said that, UL packs of this style have been a cottage industry staple for a while, and it seems slightly out of touch for BD to release a pack which so clearly borrows from those smaller designers, while leveraging their brand name and logo to charge an extra *$150* over something like the Kakwa.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on quickdraw placement techniques
With the gates facing the same direction, if you pay attention to which side of the bolt you are climbing on, you can place the draw so that only the spines of the biners will be against the rock.
Preference for already hung quickdraws
I prefer my draws already hung.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on quickdraw preferences and comparisons
they're not the world's lightest draws, but they're super durable, and really easy to clip.
They both work fine.
I find them easier to clip. When I hold the djinn I just feel like it is made better.
nobody takes big fat nylon quickdraws like the one described here ice climbing :)
Discussion on price differences for quickdraws
Why buy more expensive quickdraws? I want to buy some new quickdraws, but the prices range from around 8€ a piece to 25€ a piece.
Discussion about brand preferences and comparisons
They are cheaper and pretty much the same thing.
I just look for sales and am not really brand loyal (target is $10/draw).
just pickup the black diamond set that is on closeout now. 12 draws for like 100.
Mention of preference for alternative brands
If you like the livewires id say you give wild country wildwires a shot as well, they're on sale at bentgate right now.
Concerns about buying climbing gear on Amazon
Whatever you do, just don’t buy ropes off Amazon.
Recommendations for climbing rope length
No need to get dry treatment unless alpine climbing, but if you are going to do any multipitch routes with rappels, get a bipattern for safety.
General advice on quickdraw investment
Buy whatever is on sale and fits your needs.
While it's awesome to have an 80m when you need it, it's an absolute chore to deal with especially when a 60 or 70 will do.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Safety concerns with using quickdraws
Static gear - as for quickdraws - must never be used with fall factor 1 or 2.
Quick draws use short dynama/nylon slings that have no stretch in them.
never, ever climb above the fixed pro when doing so as a fall could result in major damage to you or the static gear.
Discussion on safety and replacement of climbing gear
Replacing webbing on quickdraws
People tend to use thicker dogbones for sport as they quite often end up pulling on them when redpointing routes, thin and light ones for trad as the gear is less likely to be used to pull on.
Only use slings for alpine/extendable quickdraws
Yes, runners like the ones you linked will work fine.
Climbing safety and gear replacement discussions
As far as quality goes, all QuickDraws pretty much last the same.
