Snoop's Take

The Canon RF-S10-18mm F4.5-6.3 is STM is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens designed for Canon EOS APS-C camera users, perfect for vlogging and capturing stunning landscapes. Users praise its affordable price point and versatility, stating, "It's an excellent affordable lens with a very versatile zoom range and reasonably good image quality." While it excels in good lighting conditions and is particularly lauded for its lightweight design, some users note limitations in low-light performance and autofocus capabilities with EF lenses on RF mounts. Overall, this lens is highly recommended for those looking to enhance their creative photography and videography without breaking the bank.

Positive Feedback

It's good for what it is but do not expect any zoom at that price point with that focal range to be amazingly sharp or good at low light.

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Excellent affordable lens with versatile zoom range
It's an excellent affordable lens with a very versatile zoom range and reasonably good image quality.
This the lens that you want to get! It covers such a wide range; effectively 28-240, with image quality better than most other kit lenses.
The democratisation of filmmaking is real.
Good image quality for a kit lens
EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS STM lens worth it? Hi all, I’m new to the Canon world and i’m trying to f
In terms of value for money it's hard to beat, especially given the good image quality.
It is a very economical way to get a light weight compact telephoto with great image quality.
It’s a very underrated lens. But people that have will tell you it’s a gem.
Great for vlogging and selfies
I am more concerned with fine art phototherapy and not video creation.
Great for video and selfies
I use the EF-S 10-18mm on my M5 (with an adapter). It functions perfectly.
Good lens for the money
They're both good lenses for the money.
Functions well with adapter
They work fine on my M50 with the adaptor. The adaptor won't have any effect on the lenses either.
Lightweight design
It's light, has autofocus, the image quality is pretty good.
I think Canon might have produced lenses without a clear market in mind.
Adapter works seamlessly with EF lenses
the adapter works seamlessly and doesn't impact image quality whatsoever.
Going to an R8/R6/R6M2 will blow your bollocks off compared to the 5D3.
I’ve used a wide variety of lenses on it with zero issues.
EF lenses perform excellently on RF mount
EF glass is excellent on RF mount!
Good compatibility with various Canon mirrorless models
Just picked one up with 5 batteries and an adapter for $1600!
Good value for money
It's a solid lens, great value for money.
for $100 it’s a steal. You can’t get a comparable lens at that price.
Great for landscape photography
It's solid. I've used it pretty much exclusively for landscape photography and I've taken some pretty incredible images with it on my EOS R.
That's great to know, I'm mostly going to be shooting landscapes so sounds like it'll be great for that.
Oh yeah for landscapes it is perfect.
Versatile lens for various styles of shooting
the RF 24-105 f/4-7.1 is a good versatile lens. You can shoot many styles.
Lightweight and easy to carry
I probably use the cheap lens 75% of the time because it's lighter and easier to carry around.

Not very good for low light due to small aperture
It's good for what it is but do not expect any zoom at that price point with that focal range to be amazingly sharp or good at low light.
Limitations on autofocus with EF lenses on RF mount
you lose some of the advance autofocus capability.
Limited field of view (144°)
144° is enough to still move the head a little and stay within the image.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Mention of upcoming Sigma and Tamron RF-S lenses
Just get the kit lens, it'll do the job.
Discussion about lens quality when using adapters
Do you lose quality when using EF (DSLR) lenses on Canon mirrorless cameras with an adapter? Is ther
No loss in image quality or autofocus performance, at all, when using a basic EF-to-EF-M or EF-to-RF adapter.
No, it's just a mechanical/electrical adapter with no optics.
There is no downside.
Mention of community support for photography advice
there's always people here willing to help, if you or your son use discord we have a server for this sub that has amazing people that give amazing advice on pretty much anything camera related :)
Discussion about lens weather sealing
None of those lenses are weather sealed which IMO is not a huge deal for casual or hobby photography.
I know for a fact none of those lenses are weather sealed unfortunately.

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Advice on using lenses in light drizzle
I think any of those lenses will do fine in a light drizzle.

Discussion about lens options for beginners
Lucky kid, I know.
It’s a good everyday/versatile lens for a camera like the R50.
the RF 18-150 is a kit lens, but it’s pretty well regarded.
Canon refurbished is pretty much new.
Discussion about using Sigma lenses on Canon mirrorless cameras
Can you use Sigma lenses on your mirrorless camera?
Yes. My Sigma 18-35 F1.8 works perfectly with my R7 and adaptor.
Absolutely had a Sigma EF 35mm f1.4 ART I used on my R5 without issue.
You can use EF-mount Sigma lenses on RF mount Canon mirrorless cameras, using an EF to RF adapter.
Discussion on camera body compatibility
The R50 felt a little cheap and plasticky, and the image buffer was tiny for rapid-fire.
Thank you for the link to the other posts. those were super helpful :-)
Discussion about compatibility of EF lenses with RF cameras
Lugging her current DSLR everywhere is a pain.
RF lenses tend to be expensive, so I'd hold onto the old lenses until she has outgrown them.
The R6 is just short of incredible.
Most of the reason the RF lenses are superior to the old EF lenses is that they are of a newer design.
Advice on lens choices for Canon mirrorless cameras
maybe also look at the 11-22mm for a wide zoom.
The Ef-m 11-22mm is a fantastic lens, but already owning the mount adapter you won’t be disappointed with the 10-18 either.
Discussion on using adapters with Canon mirrorless cameras
Main reason I am looking for mirrorless is because they are lighter (and have better video?)...

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Personal experiences with Sigma lenses and autofocus issues
Works just fine. As far as hunting for focus, it hasn't been any different than any other adapted stuff I have used.
it would pulse on my native EF camera AND my RF camera with adapter.
