High-quality performance of Tamron lenses
they are so wonderful.
Considered one of the best lenses in the emount system by a ton of people.
It’s the lens I grab—en lieu of my G Masters.
Tamron makes fine lenses that are often more affordable then Sonys GM line.
Works flawlessly on newer Canon mirrorless cameras
It works faultlessly on my R6ii. That's unusual.
I am amazed at the results.
Tamron lenses provide great performance for the price
I'd rather go used Nikkor than new Tamron, though.
If your first one is sharp, great. If not, return it.
Tamron lenses can be sharper than some competitors
Tamron was sharper across the frame.
Good image quality for the price
Tamron 18-300mm f3,5-6,3 I'm searching for a new lens, a telelens. I got a X-T3 with the 18-55mm an
For what it is the IQ is actually really good.
I highly recommend the tamron. Worth it.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Older Tamron lenses may not work on newer Canon mirrorless cameras
autofocus hunts and when you release the shutter the r6 gives an error message and the r8 locks up completely.
I had a Tamron 15-30 2.8 (1st gen) that wouldn't work on Canon mirrorless without a firmware update.
Autofocus issues with certain older lenses
The 150-600mm hunts a lot at times, very frustrating.
Tamron lenses are often viewed as lower quality compared to brand-name lenses
Something telling about the quality of tamron lenses if you ask me.
Generally, the camera brand lenses will be sharper, lighter, and more feature filled.
Tamron not making RF lenses
Bummer that Tamron won't be making canon RF lenses, at least for now.
That's disappointing.
Autofocus issues with older lenses adapted to newer cameras
Initially it was every 5 minutes (v1.6). I hope Tamron or Sigma come out with their RF lenses soon.
I know I'm not explaining it very well technically. No problems now.
Autofocus performance issues in fast-moving situations
The G1 does give good reach but I found the autofocus a bit slow for anything fast past.
Image quality disappointment with Tamron lenses
IQ was crap.
If that lens disappoints you the Tamron will make you sick.
Superzoom lenses often compromise on image quality
But they sure are convenient!
so yes you will be disappointed.
Slow and noisy autofocus performance
it's a 20 year old budget lens and has a slow noisy autofocus motor and image quality ranging from mediocre at 55mm to bad at 200mm.
Yup it’s dirt cheap but probably also dirt shit.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Debate over sales tactics in lens recommendations
For the price, it's absolutely amazing what Tamron, Sigma and Samyang can offer.
Discussion on the partnership between Nikon and Tamron
Nikon is literally partnering with Tamron for some Z mount lenses.
General opinions on lens versatility
my previous travel lens, the 18-135, was a lot more practical.
General discussion about comparisons with other super zoom lenses
If you go with a Tamron variant, get the newest G2 version, it's almost as good as the Nikon 200-500 but with an extra 100mm on the long end.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Interest in adapting EF lenses to RF mounts
All my L glass have been used EF off Craigslist or mpb.com.
I'm not being driven to buy RF native glass but instead look at second hand EF glass.
Interest in using vintage lenses on modern cameras
This Tamron Adaptall-2 28mm is a lovely bit of kit, and using it on one of Canon's highest end APSCs is a delight.
Some produce photos that no modern lenses can.
I'd be sleeping in the shed if I bought 30 vintage lenses.
I love vintage lenses on my mirrorless, but I imagine them being hard to use without electronic focusing aids.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about the need for more third-party lenses
Hopefully one of many to come, the market needs more 3P lenses, and Sigma and Tamron seem to push each other most.
Tamron lenses don’t give similar quality or sharpness as Sony and you should avoid them, people are returning them.
Interest in the compatibility of lenses with RF mount
Wish we had the eos m lenses for rf mount to begin with
Discussion on firmware updates for lens compatibility
Did you try updating the firmware to see if it helped?
The freight however is sure to be close to the $150-200 loonie mark, made my decision for me.
Compatibility of EF/EF-S lenses with Canon RF mount
will allow you to use any lens from the EF/EF-S ecosystem (regardless of the manufacturer) on Canon RF mount cameras.
Debate on the value of lower cost third-party lenses versus brand-name lenses
I suspect for those that don't need every bit of performance, the roughly $1,000 in savings is more valuable than the performance gain.
Discussion about lens compatibility with Canon RF mounts
some work some don't
Discussion about budget lenses for sports photography
The price is very appealing. It'll also allow me to explore many focal lengths and probably find my favorites in general.
I think the 70-350mm is the best telephoto zoom on APSC, it's a premium lens though and not cheap.
It's a bit out of my budget tho haha.
Its should make for a good Sport Setup.
Considerations for buying used lenses
If you're budget conscious, consider buying a used copy of the lens.
Discussion on pricing and market for second-hand lenses
How much as they asking? Is it the f/5-6.3?
What's the max you would typically expect to pay for good+ condition?
Probably 700-800 I suppose. To be fair, I dont have this lens but a 500 f4; however, people seem to love it.
Discussion about looking for affordable zoom lenses
I've just seen this on MPB and it's dirt cheap - just wondering what the catch is...!
I do want to make sure that the money I do spend won't be wasted and if this lens is mediocre to bad then I guess it won't be the right one.
Recommendations for alternative budget telephoto lenses
It's an excellent budget telephoto with good image quality, fast autofocus, and image stabilization.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about lens quality and comparisons with Canon lenses.
Are they equal to Canon lenses, less than, or better?
Some of the telephoto zooms do have focusing problems when adapted for R bodies though.
I am very happy with it.
Absolutely outstanding.
Discussion on the marketing terminology used for lens elements
ED's just a marketing name for low dispersion elements, if you look at the elements on the Tamron versions they're exactly the same.
Discussion on patent issues with RF mount and third-party lenses
Tamron makes some amazing lenses. Adapting these to RF is certainly possible, but it's not ideal.
Concerns over Canon's control over RF lens communication
to see Tamron not making RF AF lenses means that Canon is being a bit greedy.
Discussion about lens compromises and performance trade-offs
Thoughts on Tamron 18-400 f3.5-6.3 DI II VC HLD as an all round lens? First post here so please be k
Debate on lens weight and carrying options
Maybe I’ll spend some money on improving my bag situation and I won’t mind the weight so much!
I have been really pleased with it so far as it sits more comfortably cross body on the strap ready for use.
