Strange, I’ve had my Zf hunt a bit even on single-point.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great for low light photography
The Z6II is one of the best cameras for low light photography.
Z6II has been awesome so far as you say for low light photography.
Produces very good shots
Very good shots, especially considering that you just acquired this camera! 👍
Amazing shots!
New gear makes photography easier
New gear definitely makes taking pictures easier and in focus.
Great deal for a camera system
This is an insane deal. Thank you so much for sharing.
Great performance with FTZ adapter
Highly recommend it especially for free. The VR works great although a little noisy.
Nikon Z lenses are high quality
If you can afford new lenses, Nikon Z is at or near the front of the pack.
Nikon mirrorless systems are well-made
mirrorless systems from the big 3 are universally well-made.
FTZ adapter maintains autofocus accuracy
The FTZ adaptor has no affect on AF speed or accuracy.
This. This is the answer you're looking for, OP!
there is zero loss of usability or quality.
The ftz is fine.
High quality video options
I like the high quality video options on my Zfc too. I never used video before, but find that I quite enjoy it now that I have it so easily available.
Live view improves shooting experience
The mirrorless live view is a major gamechanger for me to swap from dslr to mirrorless.
Good handling and feel of Z50
the Z50 felt significantly better when handling it.
Great for portraits and some sports
I really enjoy shooting with my z50 it works very well for portraits and great for slower moving sports like baseball/softball.
24-70mm f/2.8 is a versatile lens
Going to Nikon mirrorless, what lenses should I buy? Hey guys I need some advice, I’m currently prep
24-70/2.8 is an awesome lens.
I think the 24-70 2.8 would be the place to start. It's pretty much the back bone of a pro event/wedding photographer's kit.
Kit lens (24-70 f/4 S) is highly praised
that thing is such a beast
24-120mm f/4 is a good all-around lens
No complaints here! 👍
Amazing for macro photography
You really can’t go wrong with it. Focus stacking at 1.0x on z8 or z9 will put you in a chair amazed.
Hands down Nikon Z 105mm MC S lens.
Effective for handheld close-ups
Because it helps with handheld closeups at 100mm.
Great results with Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro
I use the Nikon 105 f/2.8 Micro with great results. Good piece of glass.

Autofocus hunts in low light
Strange, I’ve had my Zf hunt a bit even on single-point.
In your original comment you said OP’s Z6ii shouldn’t hunt at all on single point af, but that’s not true.
Z8 model is heavier than D90
if the OP is struggling with the weight of his D90 setup, the Z8 is not really the best option as it is in fact heavier.
Nikon APS-C lineup is not competitive
Nikon full frame mirrorless is now really good, their apsc lineup is meh at best however.
Difficult to understand camera pricing and value
I don't understand what dictates the pricing. Z5 used is around 800€ here.
Z5 can't compete with pro DSLRs in certain aspects
I would take either of those cameras over a Z5 any day of the week.
Adapters can compromise handling
They're always a compromise and they change the handling of the whole camera.
Not fast enough for sports photography
It's not the fastest focusing lens.
Macro lens is known to focus slower than zoom telephoto lens.
the downside would be focusing speed, macros often have a long throw for focusing so you can be very precise.
in the macro range focusing is slow, and if your AF on the 105 gets lost and starts hunting, it has a longer way to go before it finds its way back.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on different autofocus modes
are you referring to single-point af?
Comparison of focal lengths and magnification capabilities
However, I have been meaning to buy a dedicated Macro lens for the Z mount and currently eying the TAMRON 90mm f/2.8 Di III VXD.
For me the ideal Z mount macro is the 105mc.
Discussion on working distance improvement
The main thing I noticed (and wanted) was the increase working distance which made a huge difference.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about using vintage lenses with new mirrorless cameras
I am just wondering if it’s worth it to specifically buy a Nikon camera to fit the lenses I have, or do you think those old lenses won’t be much use at all?
Any interchangeable mirrorless cameras will work with the lenses with the right adapter.
The zFC would be a perfect match, its designed to look just like the Nikon FE and FM.
That nikon 50mm 1.2 is still worth enough to get a decent used camera body for it.
Focus stacking techniques suggested
Explore focus stacking while you are at it. I’ve gotten great results with the inexpensive 28 mm f/1.8.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion about refurbished cameras
It's a lot of camera for $1,000 if the Z7 is your jam.
Clarification on the sale status of the listing
the lack of attention-grabbing/FOMO jargon on the B&H page seemed odd.
Discussion about old lenses compatibility with new mirrorless cameras
Way more fun than my Canon 6D to be honest.
The 50mm won't autofocus as mirrorless doesn't have the focus motor.
You will need a ftz adapter with which only the afs lenses will autofocus.
I would just start clean with new Z lenses.
Discussion about the suitability of various lenses for wildlife photography
I'm most tempted by this lens.
I would love to bump up to the Nikon 100-400, that would be my pick for a wildlife & landscape combo lens.
I'm currently very tempted by the 100-400.
Going to be so compromised compared to a dedicated wildlife lens like the 100-400.
Discussion about lens compatibility with new mirrorless
If he gets a Z50 mirrorless crop he’s gonna want to hang onto them.
My point being, you use what you have and upgrade as you go along even if it means it turns your FX camera into DX at times.
if you have them, and they work, then yes they are worth using.
Discussion on using older lenses
But the Nikkor 70-300 yes, mine works brilliantly on my Z5 with the FTZ-II adapter, just as well as it did on my D750.
Works really well. Funny, i had a D750 too, but it got submerged when I fell off my kayak.
Discussion on the weight of different camera systems
I'm thinking to go fully Nikon mirrorless and sell my Sony or leave Nikon altogether and stick with Sony, I love both systems!
General discussion about camera systems and user preferences
I think if I could return everything I have bought for Sony, and start completely fresh right now, I'd probably lean towards the Nikon Z8 over my a7RV as my one and done camera.
Discussion about upgrading to the Z Series
The time has come to upgrade to the Z Series, and I'm wondering about whether or not folks are satisfied with the performance and speed of the adaptor for legacy Nikor lenses.
Debate on the value of switching from DSLR to mirrorless
I'm looking for a more compact camera to take traveling and also for street photography.
Personally, I think the upgrade was well worth it and did so. I've had zero regrets about moving to mirrorless.
Comparison of full-frame and crop sensors
Sure, the Z5 has a bigger sensor than the D500, but the D500 is a pro camera and the Z5 isn't.
Discussion on camera models and personal upgrades
Honestly, stay dslr in this case - you're not looking for a major upgrade in performance.
Discussion on suitability for sports vs. macro photography
Has anyone used this lens for Sports Photography? Is it as fast as any prime?
If you want to do sports photography, why are you selling the 70-200 f/2.8?
Macro lenses require stable setups
In macro ranges, any movements are greatly amplified, so macro lenses either need solid tripods or very capable VR systems.
Comparison of Nikon lenses to Sigma
I love the sigma and think it's the best macro short of Nikon's Z 105 MC.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on the merits of older camera models
I'm not ready to go mirrorless just yet when I can still get shots like this for a fraction of the price.
This is why I bought a Z8 when it came out, so far it's my FOMO-antidote.
Haha, this is exactly my story, too.
There's something with actually looking through the lens rather than at a screen that I can't describe.
