What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Excellent low light performance
The Z6II is one of the best cameras for low light photography.
Z6II has been awesome so far as you say for low light photography.
the Z6II is no slouch at low light either, and I've never had mine hunt for focus.
Good autofocus advice for low light
the eye detect and eye tracking works pretty well.
Positive user experience with the Z6II
I am very much enjoying the combo and have captured some really good shots.
Very good shots, especially considering that you just acquired this camera!
Amazing shots!
Compatibility with FTZ adapter for autofocus
You will need a ftz adapter with which only the afs lenses will autofocus.
I use an FTZ mount and I try to stick to the “g” lenses. They work just fine, even on a full frame camera.
Manual focus capability of older lenses
The 50mm won't autofocus as mirrorless doesn't have the focus motor.
Great compatibility with FTZ adapter
Highly recommend it especially for free.
Works really well.
Excellent performance of Nikkor 70-300 with Z5
I keep a cheap used d3500 just for such environments.
Excellent compatibility with FTZ adapter
If you can afford new lenses, Nikon Z is at or near the front of the pack.
High-quality optics in Nikon glass
Nikon users will swear Nikon glass is the best, Canon users will swear Canon glass is the best, Sony users will swear Sony glass is the best.
FTZ adapter maintains autofocus accuracy and speed
The FTZ adaptor has no affect on AF speed or accuracy.
This. This is the answer you're looking for, OP!
there is zero loss of usability or quality.
The ftz is fine. No problems.
Great handling and feel of the Z50
the Z50 felt significantly better when handling it.
I really enjoy shooting with my z50 it works very well for portraits and great for slower moving sports like baseball/softball.
High-quality video options on the Zfc
I like the high quality video options on my Zfc too. I never used video before, but find that I quite enjoy it now that I have it so easily available.
Mirrorless live view is a gamechanger
The mirrorless live view is a major gamechanger for me to swap from dslr to mirrorless.
24-70mm f/2.8 is highly recommended
Going to Nikon mirrorless, what lenses should I buy? Hey guys I need some advice, I’m currently prep
24-70/2.8 is an awesome lens.
I think the 24-70 2.8 would be the place to start.
Excellent performance of the Z6 II with the kit lens
that thing is such a beast
Good quality of the 24-120 f/4 lens
No complaints here! 👍
Excellent photo quality with Z mount lenses
It makes shockingly good photos.
Great performance with adapting older lenses
Scanning film with it has been a breeze too, definitely the best results I’ve ever gotten.
Enjoyable user experience with Z series cameras
I also use my wife's Zf for most everything else, street, landscape, etc. and really enjoy it.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Autofocus hunting issues
I’ve had my Zf hunt a bit even on single-point.
Sometimes the Zf still hunts for focus even in good light.
DX lenses are not suitable for full frame Z5
Those DX (aps-c/crop) lenses won’t really be any use on your full frame Z5.
Nikon APS-C lineup is considered inferior
Nikon full frame mirrorless is now really good, their apsc lineup is meh at best however.
Z8 is heavier than D90 setup
if the OP is struggling with the weight of his D90 setup, the Z8 is not really the best option as it is in fact heavier.
D500 may be a better upgrade for some
Honestly, stay dslr in this case - you're not looking for a major upgrade in performance.
Adapters compromise handling and performance
They're always a compromise and they change the handling of the whole camera.
Wish for a rangefinder for manual lens shooting
Other than that it’s awesome. I’ve tried many Fuji’s, mirrorless Nikons, lumix.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the D800 and its value over time.
I'm not ready to go mirrorless just yet when I can still get shots like this for a fraction of the price.
The D800 is on my list of cameras I should have bought the day they came out.
Haha, this is exactly my story, too.
There's something with actually looking through the lens rather than at a screen that I can't describe.
Reference to other lens models and their performance
Fantastic lens though. I shoot motorsports professionally and this is my current workhorse now that the 70-200 is seeing less use than it used to.
Nikon F cameras are modular and versatile.
This is the camera I'll be buried with.
But watching Blow Up or Apocalypse Now really makes me want one.
They are absolutely bulletproof workhorses.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about prime lens usage for wildlife photography
I'm looking for advice on which mirrorless lenses to invest in, ready for this trip.
I've never used a prime lens before so renting might be a good idea - thank you.
The 100-400 is a fantastic lens for travel/wildlife opportunities.
Mention of various lens combinations for travel
I miss my 28-300 on the F mount, It could go anywhere and do anything.
Discussion on using older lenses with mirrorless
Are these lenses worth using on a mirrorless?
if you have them, and they work, then yes they are worth using.
Users discuss adapting various older lenses
The stuff that will autofocus on Z will just function.
Users sharing experiences with combining film and digital shooting
I've got a ZF and FM3a -- perfect combo.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Variety of lens combinations discussed
That should be good combo for a general zoom lens and a prime lens.
Discussion about camera deals and refurbishments
I can't recommend a used/refurb Z6 or Z7 enough to people wanting to take exceedingly high-quality images of the sorts of things most hobbyists want to take images of anyway.
This is perfect timing and an unbelievable deal.
It's a lot of camera for $1,000 if the Z7 is your jam.
Discussion on switching to new Z lenses
I would just start clean with new Z lenses.
Consideration of lens weight and suitability for hiking
For the size and weight it has no benefits that you could really use compared to the 100-400.
It is such an awesome lens and it doesn't get much smaller for hiking/travel.
Comparison of different mirrorless systems
I'm thinking to go fully Nikon mirrorless and sell my Sony or leave Nikon altogether and stick with Sony, I love both systems!
Discussion about CFe cards and transfer speeds
The faster transfer speeds save me *hours*, which more than justifies the extra cost for me.
All I'm saying is they are damn expensive - and to me that camera is not aimed at professionals.
I'd rather have a slightly wider body if it meant at least one slot was CFe.
SD cards, IMO, are a durable workhorse.
Interchangeable lenses can work with the right adapter
I am just wondering if it’s worth it to specifically buy a Nikon camera to fit the lenses I have, or do you think those old lenses won’t be much use at all?
Any interchangeable mirrorless cameras will work with the lenses with the right adapter. You don’t need a Nikon.
The zFC would be a perfect match, its designed to look just like the Nikon FE and FM.
I think the old lenses can be fun.
Discussion about the value of older Nikon lenses
Its still a very good lens, however manual focus only(which is no fun most the time, especially at f/1.2).
Discussion on switching from DSLR to mirrorless
Do you recommend me to change the body for a Z50 or a Z fc? or maybe sell all my gear and go to another brand?
Personally, I think the upgrade was well worth it and did so. I've had zero regrets about moving to mirrorless.
Considerations on camera pricing and value
You may also wish to consider the Z5 - it's not that much more expensive than the Z50 to make the jump to full frame and get IBIS.
Variety of opinions on camera brands
Sure, the Z5 does have various advantages due to being mirrorless, but those are pro cameras and the Z5 isn't.
Pro cameras do tend to have very good specs for when they were released, but the primary distinctions are build quality.
Discussion about lens choices for Nikon Z6 II
I was thinking the same thing, thanks for the input!
Discussion about the cost and value of Nikon F cameras.
Been wanting one for ages but they're so gosh darn expensive.
You can find deals if your patient, I picked my Nikon F up for £65 body only.
A bit crazy to get what's just a hood and a loupe for the same amount of money as the camera, but without it just looks naked 😁.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Personal anecdotes about camera experiences
That said, I'm not sure this does it for me more than my Fujis.
