Positive Feedback

Strange, I’ve had my Zf hunt a bit even on single-point.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Excellent low light performance
The Z6II is one of the best cameras for low light photography.
Z6II has been awesome so far as you say for low light photography.
the Z6II is no slouch at low light either, and I've never had mine hunt for focus.
Good combination with prime lenses
That should be good combo for a general zoom lens and a prime lens.
Amazing shots!
Fast and accurate autofocus with proper settings
the eye detect and eye tracking works pretty well.
Good zoom flexibility for wildlife
The 100-400 is a fantastic lens for travel/wildlife opportunities.
The Z100-400 is going to be your best bet if you're trying to balance reach, quality, and size/weight.
Compact size and weight for hiking
I miss my 28-300 on the F mount, It could go anywhere and do anything.
No loss of usability with FTZ adaptor
there is zero loss of usability or quality.
The ftz is fine. No problems.
Adapting works just fine with the FTZ adaptor.
Improved AF speed and accuracy with Z bodies
In fact you might find your F lenses to be a little more accurate as the Z bodies obviously have on sensor AF as opposed to a seperate module like the DSLRs.
High quality video options
I like the high quality video options on my Zfc too. I never used video before, but find that I quite enjoy it now that I have it so easily available.
Mirrorless live view is beneficial
The mirrorless live view is a major gamechanger for me to swap from dslr to mirrorless.
Compact and practical for travel
the zoom is quiet and light, picture quality is just as good if not better than my previous zoom.
Good for portraits and slower sports
I really enjoy shooting with my z50 it works very well for portraits and great for slower moving sports like baseball/softball.
Great all-around lens for professional photography
Going to Nikon mirrorless, what lenses should I buy? Hey guys I need some advice, I’m currently prep
24-70/2.8 is an awesome lens.
I think the 24-70 2.8 would be the place to start. It's pretty much the back bone of a pro event/wedding photographer's kit.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Autofocus can hunt in low light
Strange, I’ve had my Zf hunt a bit even on single-point.
Yes, it’s been lovely, but that’s not my point.
Sometimes the Zf still hunts for focus even in good light.
Limited reach for wildlife photography
70-200 is really too short for wildlife. I'd forget about that use case.
Limited performance upgrade from DSLR
Honestly, stay dslr in this case - you're not looking for a major upgrade in performance.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion of autofocus settings and modes
are you referring to single-point af?
The Zf is much newer, has the Expeed 7 processor and should be able to get AF down to a much lower EV value.
New gear improves photography experience
New gear definitely makes taking pictures easier and in focus.
Discussion of various Nikon lenses and their features
I was stunned by how sharp the 60mm Micro can get.
A nikkor 50 1.4; a good one.
The 28mm F2.8 AI-S is one of the sharpest wide lenses I’ve ever used.
Knowing it has a 'gimmick' feature but still works incredibly well makes it a real attractive thing to add to the arsenal.
Comments on camera design and nostalgia
My favorite camera of all time is my FM2, so I love this design.
Comparative discussion of camera features
Just a few years ago people were cursing Nikon for including CFe on their new cameras.
They want an 'in' to the Fuji-market, mostly kids who primarily buy the camera for the looks.
Discussion on lens options for Nikon Z series
I was thinking the same thing, thanks for the input!
My personal choice was not to mess with any adapters. They're always a compromise and they change th
that thing is such a beast.
No complaints here!

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about using vintage Nikon lenses with new mirrorless cameras
I am just wondering if it’s worth it to specifically buy a Nikon camera to fit the lenses I have, or do you think those old lenses won’t be much use at all?
Any interchangeable mirrorless cameras will work with the lenses with the right adapter.
The zFC would be a perfect match, its designed to look just like the Nikon FE and FM.
That nikon 50mm 1.2 is still worth enough to get a decent used camera body for it.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion of alternative lenses for different needs
I shot on a Nikon Z6ii and have the kit 24-70mm f/4, along with the 70-200mm 2.8 S and 50mm 1.8 S.
It's absolutely worth it if you need what it provides.
14-30 is a magnificent lens.
It’s light, has excellent IQ and has a very useful range to work with.
Discussion about refurbished camera deals
I can't recommend a used/refurb Z6 or Z7 enough to people wanting to take exceedingly high-quality images.
This is an insane deal.
It's a lot of camera for $1,000 if the Z7 is your jam.
Curiosity about the availability of the camera listing
the lack of attention-grabbing/FOMO jargon on the B&H page seemed odd.
Discussion on compatibility of old DX lenses with new mirrorless cameras
Way more fun than my Canon 6D to be honest.
The 50mm won't autofocus as mirrorless doesn't have the focus motor.
You will need a ftz adapter with which only the afs lenses will autofocus.
I would just start clean with new Z lenses.
Discussion about lens rental options
I'm currently very tempted by the 100-400, although the new 28-400 has thrown me.
Discussion on the usability of DX lenses with full-frame Z5
Are these lenses worth using on a mirrorless?
Those DX (aps-c/crop) lenses won’t really be any use on your full frame Z5.
you use what you have and upgrade as you go along even if it means it turns your FX camera into DX at times.
if you have them, and they work, then yes they are worth using.
Positive feedback on the Nikon 70-300 lens with FTZ adapter
I’m a huge fan of my 70-300, that lens works great with the FTZ adapter.
Works really well.
Discussion about storage formats preference
I hate the format. It's biggest benefit is that its cheap.
SD cards, IMO, are a durable workhorse.
I think that's a great compromise.
Discussion about camera body preferences
Do you recommend me to change the body for a Z50 or a Z fc? or maybe sell all my gear and go to another brand?
Personally, I think the upgrade was well worth it and did so. I've had zero regrets about moving to mirrorless.
As a wildlife photographer, I would take either of those cameras over a Z5 any day of the week.
Price confusion between full frame and DSLRs
You may also wish to consider the Z5 - it's not that much more expensive than the Z50 to make the jump to full frame and get IBIS.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion of the D800 and its camera performance
I'm not ready to go mirrorless just yet when I can still get shots like this for a fraction of the price.
The D800 is on my list of cameras I should have bought the day they came out.
Haha, this is exactly my story, too.
There's something with actually looking through the lens rather than at a screen that I can't describe.
Discussion about transitioning from D90 to Nikon mirrorless
I'm guessing my D90 as my main driver, but it's heavy.
If you can afford new lenses, Nikon Z is at or near the front of the pack.
The Nikon Z8 is the best bang for the buck hybrid mirrorless camera you can get.
Coming from a D90, even a Z5 would be a big step up.
Discussion about upgrading to Z series
The time has come to upgrade to the Z Series, and I'm wondering about whether or not folks are satisfied with the performance and speed of the adaptor for legacy Nikor lenses.
Concerns about post-shoot editing workload
The shutter is the last thing I'm worried about when my client is expecting a thousand or more edited shots from a week of 10+ hour days.
