Snoop's Take

The Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker Machine, ICE-70P1, is a versatile kitchen appliance designed to create delicious frozen treats like ice cream, gelato, and sorbet in just 20 minutes. With a 2-quart capacity and user-friendly features such as an LCD screen and auto shutoff timer, it simplifies the process of making homemade desserts. Consumer feedback highlights the machine's fast processing time, ease of use, and great capacity for making two quarts at once. Users have praised its performance, noting that "it only takes 20 minutes and that it’s supposed to come out soft," and many appreciate the opportunity for customization, stating, "I think I might spend more on it now that I try making different flavors lol." However, some users have pointed out calibration issues and the need for pre-freezing the bowl, emphasizing that the quality of ice cream can vary significantly based on the chosen recipe. Overall, the Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker is highly recommended for those looking to explore homemade ice cream making. It stands out as a great entry-level option for beginners and enthusiasts alike, delivering satisfying results when the right recipes are used.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Fast processing time for ice cream
It was a partial success. I used a simple vanilla recipe provided on Cuisinart website.
I’ve never churned any ice cream that long in my cuisinart. About 15 minutes max, often only 12 minutes until it’s churned.
It only takes 20 minutes and that it’s supposed to come out soft. Put it in the freezer for a few hours and viola.
Good capacity for making 2 quarts
Thank you both. Its seems that i just overfilled it.
Easy to use for making ice cream
It is so easy to use. I was intimidated for years about making ice cream.
Ice cream machines usually have some kind of clutch mechanisms that allow the shaft to rotate freely so the motor doesn’t burn from overload.
In my experience it's also pretty easy to find them for super cheap on FB Marketplace/craigslist/Kijiji/etc.
Works great for making ice cream
I have one and like it. I don’t find it noisy and have made up my own recipes because I thought the ones they had had too much sugar/calories.
I own one and it works great for the handful of times I decide to use it. The quality of the ice cream really depends on the recipe.
Cuisinart machines work great for making ice cream
My $70 (closer to $50 when I bought it) 1.5 quart Cuisineart ice cream maker works great!
This is the way to go. I love my Cuisineart. Only downfall is it can be messy
Good for beginners and easy to use
For beginners the Cuisinart ice 30 BC is pretty solid too.
Affordable entry-level ice cream makers available
Get a model where you freeze the bowl before using. You’ll get some pretty darn good results from these inexpensive machines.
Allows for customization and experimentation with flavors
I think I might spend more on it now that I try making different flavors lol.
Users enjoy knowing the ingredients used in their ice cream
And you know what's actually going into the ice cream instead of ingredients you can't pronounce
Great entry-level ice cream maker
it is a great entry to ice cream making.
Effective ice cream churning
Can I go ahead and use it before the 24 hours are up?
Most the time I can get it to make ice cream, but it's usually still softer than I'd like, and at least one time it didn't really work at all.
I ended up freezing the bowl for the second batch about 30 hours. It passed the slosh test, but I did notice that *after* the second batch churned, the bowl was much more thawed than the first, in terms of creaminess and texture.
Cold bowl improves results
Your bowl might be ready if your mix is cold.
Effective for making hard ice cream after freezing
Best countertop "hard" ice cream maker? Hi I want to make harder ice cream, not soft serve; the one you buy in the tubs.
All ice cream starts out at something closer to soft serve texture until you freeze it hard in the freezer.
Can confirm! I have a base model from Cuisinart and it works really well.
Yah, if you're just a home cook and just want to make a quart at a time, then this is the perfect machine for a reasonable cost.
Preferred modern machine over traditional methods
I keep it in there all the time so I can make ice cream at a moment’s notice.
Great for experimentation with unique flavors
My favorite experimentations : coconut and saffron, blood orange and Sancho pepper, kaki and black tea.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Calibration issues affect ice cream spacing
It‘s even the same side, it‘s left, right, left, right…
It’s probably not calibrated correctly
Yup, the treats are coming down in pairs. Sticky is consistent.
The stick inserter doesn’t appear “smart”, so that means the issue Is upstream. It is definitely a timing or calibration issue with the machine that creates or places the ice cream on the trays.
Stick inserter issues
Gotta stop creaming so close.
Requires pre-freezing of the bowl, taking up space
I've had the Cuisinart ice cream maker in the past, I wouldn't recommend it.
Quality of ice cream depends heavily on the recipe used
It was a Philadelphia-style recipe of just milk, cream, and sugar.
Making ice cream can be more expensive than buying from the store
With the cost of heavy cream (or even half and half) and eggs (if you plan to make custards), and time, I don’t even think you’d break even compared to buying from the store.
Limited to making 2 batches a day due to freezer bowl constraints
The only somewhat frustrated thing is that I am limited to making only 2 batches a day because I only have 2 freezer bowls.
Previous Cuisinart models were overly noisy
it makes a wonderfully smooth product compared to the Cuisinart. And it is not as annoying sounding as my old one (which is a major win).
Ice and salt method is messy and loud
I have an ice and salt once kicking around somewhere and it didn't take me long to decide that I'd prefer one with a freezer bowl.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on emulsifiers for better ice cream texture
using only milk, cream, and sugar is fine. But you'll need an emulsifier so that the fat doesn't separate into that slimy residue.
Soft serve texture before final freeze
They all come out “soft serve” consistency, by the way.
The hardness gauge just controls how long it churns before the timer goes off.
Personal anecdotes about ice cream making
It depends on how much work you want to put in for what will ultimately be an inferior product.
Inquiry about experiences with ice cream makers in Japan
And I really appreciate the person who recommended starting out with an inexpensive maker first.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Comments on recipe variations and outcomes
Which Cuisinart recipe was it - I’ve had two Cuisinart machines and they came with very different recipes?
Was the bowl of your maker thoroughly cleaned? that might be a reason for your ice cream not turning out right.
Discussion on sugar alternatives for ice cream
sugar, you need more sugar to prevent the formation of ice crystals.
there is ice cream without sugar. It's just a frozen dessert without sugar, the texture will be all off.
allulose is a good sugar replacement and doesn’t make the ice cream too hard or icy.
sugar is the culprit.
Discussion on freezing techniques
you want the bowl as cold as you can get, since that’s the only thing freezing your mix.
it takes much more heat to turn a solid into a liquid that it takes to warm a slurry.
Thrift store finds for ice cream makers
It's worth checking your local thrift stores to see if they have any.

Comments on the nature of ice cream placement
Way easier to just change the stick rate to a faster speed. Done easy.
They are called ice creams , hope this helps
Yep, definitely a spacing issue. You can clearly see them in groups of two.
Probably set for the spacing between two boxes when it's between two Popsicles in the same box, and it thinks it's between the two in the same box when it's between boxes.
Discussion on types of ice cream machines
best ice cream machine for dairy-free ice cream? hi friends i'm hoping to get into the world of ice cream making :)
I would purchase a freezer bowl machine. They are cheaper and the majority of people who buy home ice cream machines I think usually let them either A) sit collect dust or B) sell.
Wirecutter claimed that the ICM-15LS was better than the other Whynter machine for non-dairy, and those two were their top recommendations, which is at least one data point.
Comparison with Ninja Creami
I'm wondering if it's comparable.
Discussion on the worth of investing in an ice cream machine
I spend 10–20 dollars per month on buying ice cream, which makes about 180 dollars per year.
Discussion on the best ice cream makers for newbies
Best home ice cream maker? Hey guys! I'm looking at all the ice cream makers and feeling overwhelmed with choices...what is the best machine for a newbie with kids? Thaaaanks!
Discussion on the value of homemade ice cream versus store-bought
My partner and I are lifelong ice cream and gelato aficianados, ready to embark on the great adventure of making our own, because rarely can we find flavors we'd most enjoy in stores, and because many brands of store-sold ice cream use crappy ingredients, and taste like they use crappy ingredients.
Comments on upgrading to more expensive ice cream makers
The other machines do not make gelato nearly as well.
Sometimes used / refurbed restaurant supply is a great value.
Discussion on the merits of different ice cream maker models
Thank you. Could you give us some idea of the relative value / merits of the ice cream makers in those cost ranges?
Doubling your investment get's you the Musso and the power to merrily churn your way down 10-15f and produce a ready to plate product with no perceptible iciness and other-worldly smoothness in 15-20 min.
The Musso sounds like a great machine, but it sounds more like 3-4x the cost of a $200 ice cream machine, and about 2x a Breville.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on personal experiences with the product
I used to own the cuisinart ice cream maker which I hated. It is the one where you but the bowl in the freezer and there’s no need for salt.
Discussion about features of other ice cream makers
a great starter machine.
I'm not familiar with the Kumio but the ICE-21 scrapes closer and spins faster with more overrun, compared to the ICE-30
The ICE-70 (discontinued sadly) has a physically identical freezer bowl but a tighter fitting and better beater/paddle/scraper and I can get it for about $9.
General discussion about compressor machines versus traditional ice cream makers
Thank you. What do you like so much about compressor machines? What's better about them, other than not having to churn by hand?
I love to go compressor one day when I have the funds saved up.
Discussion on reduced-sugar ice creams and alternative sweeteners
I wonder if anyone's tried their luck at reduced-sugar ice creams that are sweetened with monkfruit or similar.
