With a capacity of 1.5 quarts and a new patent-pending mixing paddle, this machine can produce creamy treats in just 20 minutes or less, making it a perfect addition to any kitchen. Consumer feedback highlights its user-friendly design and effectiveness, with many noting, "It is so easy to use" and praising its affordability as an entry-level option for beginners. Users enjoy the customization of ingredients, allowing them to create unique flavors at home. However, some have reported calibration issues and occasional inconsistency in results, indicating that while the product excels in many areas, it may require some attention to achieve optimal results. I’ve never churned any ice cream that long in my cuisinart. About 15 minutes max, often only 12 minutes until it’s churned.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Fast ice cream production time
I’ve never churned any ice cream that long in my cuisinart. About 15 minutes max, often only 12 minutes until it’s churned.
Easy to use with simple ingredient addition
Thank you both. Its seems that i just overfilled it. Tride it with less and it worked just fine 😁
Easy to use for making ice cream
It is so easy to use. I was intimidated for years about making ice cream.
Works great for making ice cream
My $70 (closer to $50 when I bought it) 1.5 quart Cuisineart ice cream maker works great!
Ice-21 is great. You can get it on Facebook marketplace almost new for cheap ~$30
I have the same one - ICE-21P1.
I'm not sure if buying an ice cream machine will mathematically save you money. I think I might spen
Affordable entry-level option
I paid $15 for it. I should spend as little as I can get away with in case it doesn't stick.
This one looks like it changes the temperature based on the ice cream hardness but I'm not sure what kind of overrun I might expect.
if you're just a home cook and just want to make a quart at a time, then this is the perfect machine for a reasonable cost.
Easy to use for beginners
For beginners the Cuisinart ice 30 BC is pretty solid too.
I put my empty ice cream maker bowl in the freezer last night in preparation for finally breaking it in.
freezing the bowl for 24 hours isn't long enough to properly churn ice cream in my machine, even though I can't hearing any "sloshing."
Allows for customization of ingredients
And you know what's actually going into the ice cream instead of ingredients you can't pronounce
Great entry-level option for beginners
Best home ice cream maker? Hey guys! I'm looking at all the ice cream makers and feeling overwhelmed with choices...what is the best machine for a newbie with kids? Thaaaanks!
I have this model for the price, it is a great entry to ice cream making.
Agreeing with the others that the Cuisinart ICE-21 (or even ICE-20) is a great place to start.
Preferred over ice and salt machines
I keep it in there all the time so I can make ice cream at a moment’s notice.
Great for creative flavor experimentation
My favorite experimentations : - coconut and saffron - blood orange and Sancho pepper - kaki and black tea
Great recipes available for ice cream making
Any tips would be appreciated.
Great, approachable information and recipes.
It's ruined all other strawberry ice creams for me.
Home made vanilla ice cream will put any store-bought to shame and that goes for any premium brand out there.
Effective at churning without solid freezing during operation
When I use the ICE-21, the ice cream doesn't get frozen solid during the actual churning stage but as it sits in the freezer bowl post-churn.
Less side freezing and wastage with shorter bowl freezing time
Less side freezing and less wastage.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Calibration issues causing inconsistent stick placement
It’s probably not calibrated correctly
Yup, the treats are coming down in pairs. Sticky is consistent.
The stick inserter doesn’t appear “smart”, so that means the issue Is upstream. It is definitely a timing or calibration issue with the machine that creates or places the ice cream on the trays.
Its likely there are two extruders further up the line and they got placed too close together after maintenance. That would cause the Left then Right alternation. Funny how the little things matter 🤣
Spacing issues in ice cream production
Probably set for the spacing between two boxes when it's between two Popsicles in the same box, and it thinks it's between the two in the same box when it's between boxes.
Machine stops when ice cream is too thick
It was a partial success. I used a simple vanilla recipe provided on Cuisinart website.
My ice cream machine also stops turning after around 25 mins when the ice cream becomes too thick.
Ice cream can turn out too sweet or fatty
my ice cream was too sweet and fatty I followed Cuisinart's own recipe for vanilla ice cream and the result was a) too sweet and b) fatty to the point of leaving a grimy residue on the machine's plastic "paddle."
Can be messy to operate
Only downfall is it can be messy
May not save money compared to store-bought ice cream
It’s only worth it if you think you’d enjoy making ice cream as a hobby.
Previous model was very noisy
it makes a wonderfully smooth product compared to the Cuisinart. And it is not as annoying sounding as my old one (which is a major win).
Inconsistent results based on base temperature
Everything should be as cold as possible, your bowl might be ready if your mix is cold.
Ice and salt machines are messy and loud
I have an ice and salt once kicking around somewhere and it didn't take me long to decide that I'd prefer one with a freezer bowl.
Concerns about personal health impacts
Yeah, nah I don't need a personal machine that will make me fatter.
Ice cream can stick to the sides of the bowl during churning
I usually churn for about 20 minutes or so.
That's interesting though, I've never left it in the bowl after churning, I've always immediately transferred it to another container to freeze.
Cakes of ice cream can form and slow down the freezing process
The main problem of the caking you describe isn't that the yield will be less but that the base sticking to the sides of the container works as an insulator and slows down the freezing process.
Warranty issues with noise defects
I was able to speak with a rep at Cuisinart and they are apparently aware of the defect as I was not the first one to have this issue.
They sent a replacement that wouldn't even turn on.
Machine noise is annoying during operation
When applying pressure to the left on top, the sound stops.
Sounds like plastic gears that got shredded and are slipping.
Short lifespan of machine
It lasted about 12-18 months give of take. It was kind of sad because it was my first ice cream maker and I used it all the time, almost every weekend.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion on sugar alternatives affecting ice cream texture
sugar, you need more sugar to prevent the formation of ice crystals.
Just as there is no smoke without fire, there is ice cream without sugar.
I make sugar free ice cream for my father in law who has diabetes and I have found that allulose is a good sugar replacement and doesn’t make the ice cream too hard or icy.
I always add a tablespoon of liquor, especially vodka but sometimes whiskey or rum.
Discussion on ice cream consistency and hardening
They all come out “soft serve” consistency, by the way.
The hardness gauge just controls how long it churns before the timer goes off.
Exploration of how dasher design affects ice cream yield
The dasher is going to decide how much is going to get removed from the inside of the bowl on each pass.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about recipe variations and emulsifiers
using only milk, cream, and sugar is fine. But you'll need an emulsifier so that the fat doesn't separate into that slimy residue.
Which Cuisinart recipe was it - I’ve had two Cuisinart machines and they came with very different recipes?
Was the bowl of your maker thoroughly cleaned? that might be a reason for your ice cream not turning out right.
Users sharing their ice cream making experiences
I find it's easier to crack all the eggs into a different bowl and then separate the yolks by hand.
Discussion about making soft serve ice cream at home
I live ice cream. Espexially soft serve ice cream. But due to diatary restrictions ( kosher ) I can't just go anywhere to eat soft serve ice cream and I would have to make it myself.
Any frozen bowl-style ice cream maker will make decent soft serve ice cream provided you're ready to eat it straight out of the machine.
The typical home countertop ice cream machine makes ice cream like you'd get in a carton from the grocer's freezer, same as the old-style hand-cranked rock salt & ice machines, just less cranking by hand.
I work in commercial ice cream manufacturing (we make batches 10,000L at a time, many times per day).

Discussion about various ice cream makers and comparisons
so my real question is, for someone who is a semi-enthusiast, is it worth it to spend ~$200 more for a Musso Lello machine?
The musso is better but it's not needed to make world class ice cream.
if you love great ice cream, get a machine that will actually let you recreate it.
simply wonderful texture. would definitely reccomend getting good thermometer too though...my texture has significantly improved since i started measuring the custard cooking temp.
Discussion on the type of ice cream machine recommended for dairy-free recipes
hi friends i'm hoping to get into the world of ice cream making :)
Since a lot of people do end up selling, i would take a look at second hand purchase.
Wirecutter claimed that the ICM-15LS was better than the other Whynter machine for non-dairy.
Comparisons to other ice cream makers
I'm wondering if it's comparable.
Discussion on the cost-effectiveness of making ice cream at home
I spend 10–20 dollars per month on buying ice cream, which makes about 180 dollars per year.
Spend less than $100 on your first ice cream maker. Get a model where you freeze the bowl before using.
Discussion on optimal freezing techniques
You want the bowl as cold as you can get, since that’s the only thing freezing your mix.
Obviously this is a thermo dynamics question. And obviously you need to keep the freezer bowl in the freezer until it’s frozen solid.
Discussion about reduced-sugar ice cream options
I wonder if anyone's tried their luck at reduced-sugar ice creams that are sweetened with monkfruit or similar.
Discussion on optimal freezing times for the bowl
My freezer sucks lol, it's all over the place.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about the machine's design and performance quirks
Way easier to just change the stick rate to a faster speed. Done easy.
They are called ice creams , hope this helps
It's not as issue yet, but give or take 8 years of use has been adding up on it and I'd like to find replacements for what I can if I still can since it's been an awesome little machine.
Users discussing different brands and models of ice cream makers
My partner and I are lifelong ice cream and gelato aficianados, ready to embark on the great adventure of making our own, because rarely can we find flavors we'd most enjoy in stores, and because many brands of store-sold ice cream use crappy ingredients, and taste like they use crappy ingredients.
There are a lot of good reviews on icecreamscience.com. I have a Whynter ICM-200LS and have been very happy with it.
Thank you. What do you like so much about compressor machines? What's better about them, other than not having to churn by hand?
They're built like tanks and there is nothing that really breaks on them without abuse. I see reviews from people who have run them 18 yrs.
Discussion about different types of ice cream makers
Opinions on "traditional" ice cream makers. I have seen that a lot of the recommendations for ice cream makers are either with compressors or the bowls that you keep on the freezer.
The ice and rock salt method is just so finicky and the results as so variable and unreliable that for me it isn’t worth the nostalgia factor.
It's what I grew up loving and looking forward to every summer.
Salt and ice required.
Discussion about the limitations of making ice cream at home
I couldn't even believe it, it was like I had never tasted anything sweet or cold before!
Richest, most amazing frozen custard you’ll ever eat.
Brilliant! Can't wait to try this, thank you!
The texture of the finished product was amazing; so velvety and smooth, unlike other recipes I've tried.
