Which Pour Over Coffee Maker Material is Best? Which material is best used for the Pour Over Coffee Maker when brewing?
I literally have a second kettle of boiling RO water that I use to preheat so that im not wasting brew water.
Despite also having a V60, a French Press, 2 Aeropress, a Mokka Pot and a Cezve, I'm using my Sintrax 52 Vacuum Coffee Maker pretty much every Day.
It is fine for specific types of brew. Certainly works well for Vietnamese style coffee where you mix with sweet condensed milk.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for various materials in pour over coffee makers
I didn’t find any sensible difference. Other people claim it makes a difference… Can’t say much about other materials, but I would say test for yourself.
I think what they're saying in the big difference part is on how old the plastic ones had been.
Once I realized I could perfectly preheat the dripper 2mins in the microwave, I liked ceramic.
Plastic is what I’ve seen most commonly used in competitions. That should say something about it’s consistency.
Phin filters are great for Vietnamese coffee
They’re great for making Vietnamese coffee, but it’s more of a niche cultural thing like a cezve or ibrik for Turkish coffee, and so it’s less well known or used.
If all or most of what I drank for coffee leaned into cream and sugar, I'd definitely use phin more often.
Phin filters yield a heavier mouthfeel in coffee
Phin filters make what I'd call almost a stronger heavier mouth feel cup of coffee.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Transitioning to pour over coffee can be an exploration of different beans.
Start with v60. Affordable gooseneck kettle and weighing scale with timer. Pwede na yan.
2months ago, nasa espresso mode ako. ngayon naman nasa pour over era. main reason is to try yung mga light roasted beans.
Discussion on grind size and brewing techniques
Be sure to grind a little courser. I have a Baratza Encore and put it on 22
Last time I did it I think it ended up around 4-5 mins. I’m still trying to perfect it but it’s been good.
Different brewing ratios and techniques discussed
Wondering if there’s other methods people use here to get more out of their beans.
1:20 is a very long ratio. Most recipes are around the 1:mid-teens
I usually use the James Hoffman ultimate single cup recipe.
I’m using a method I saw JH recommend somewhere. Where does he talk about the 4 pours? Does he talk about the benefit of that?
Convenience of instant coffee while camping
Definitely sacrificing on flavour but they are much more drinkable than any other brand of instant I’ve had, and the convenience is so worth it
The ease just outweighed dealing with extra gear and coffee grounds.
Discussion of alternative brewing methods
love cooking and then my 1 lt French press comes with
Aeropress makes the best coffee of any coffee maker I've owned though, it's incredibly lightweight, and can essentially all parts inside itself.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Recommendations for equipment and techniques in pour over coffee.
Hindi mo kailangan matuto ng pouring technique.
Currently, I have a temperature controlled gooseneck kettle, scale, a kingrinder k6, & Baratza encore ESP as well. Just need to complete with a pour over.
V60 (size 02) and appropriate filter papers. You can brew 2 cups comfortably.
And the basic Hario filters are totally fine. Just try to get the ones made in Japan.
Recommendations for large capacity pour over options
Brewing 3 cups of aeropress every couple of hours was not fun!
If I had neither the Bonavita nor the Chemex, and price was an issue, I might use the French Press (using water from a sauce pan), and in parallel make coffee with my pour over and/or Aeropress.
Very large pour-overs generally are challenging to make as good as smaller ones because of physics of percolation brewing IMHO.
I have an 8 cup chemex and from time to time brew a liter of coffee. I enjoy it quite a lot.
Discussion on tools to enhance brewing experience
I'm curious to know what tools people use to make their daily brew easier, better, or more pleasurable that weren't designed for coffee.
I replaced the hand crank on the grinder with a nut and use a cordless drill with a nut driver to turn it.
It cuts down on static, limiting the amount of chaff that covers my entire countertop and gets me yelled at.
Exploration of different coffee beans
I need your guys help in adding some variety to my daily brew.
There is a seemingly endless selection of coffee beans to try.
Discussion of brewing methods and equipment
Plenty of variety for me.
I think that with these three brew methods and some fun beans, you'll get back into it in no time!
I love it, but I would really like an option that I can more easily brew at least 400mL at a time.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
The ritual of making pour over coffee is appealing.
I think pour overs are ideal for people who like going through the ritual/process.
Yeah, I really think the 'Process' is really interesting, lalo na nag French press ako with Hoffmann's technique, and some Local barista na din kase parang nag enjoy siya gumawa ng Pour overs.
Welcome to the rabbit hole talaga pag nag start ka🤣
Is pour over worth the work? Hello coffee people, I'm new to the game and have a question.
Phin filters are less popular than other methods
I personally own two filters which I bought for less than $5 and they both make nice, rich, and strong coffee.
