What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Reliable size #2 filter compatibility
Either will work, 2 is design size.
It says on the side of the box: "Insert a Melitta #2 filter, scoop in your favorite ground coffee"
Produces sweet coffee with low acidity and plenty of body
A very sweet coffee with low acidity, and plenty of body, this coffee brought complex fruit notes.
Produces a good cup of coffee
I feel the Melitta 101's for me does a nice balance of aromas and acidity.
Aesthetically pleasing design
The beige-brown is aesthetically very pleasing to me, and would love to have one.
Produces excellent brew quality
Very capable machine, i love it. When i am in a rush, i use it.
Easy to use
Go coarser and be easy on the flow. You can brew successfully with it both with pulse pours and a steady pour.
Produces good coffee with great taste
Melitta Dripper 100 yrs of History! Melitta invented the pour over technique.
Used it for 8 years before feeling secure enough in my life to get a Chemex.
I have this, Today with an 1zpresso K ultra at 73 clicks with a medium roast, it tasted pretty good.
The top reservoir has multiple small holes to slowly drip the water over the grounds, which is especially wonderful for those who don't know how to properly bloom the coffee and for those who don't have the patience to continue slowly pouring water.
Versatile and compatible with various brewing techniques
you can use it just like you would your V60 or whatever else you use.
Successful brewing results using the recipe
I have finally settled for the perfect melitta pour over recipe.
I’ve been using your recipe with great success! I do suspect that my ground "for pour over" coffee is a bit too coarse, just my immediate impression upon opening the bag.
Encouragement for sharing brewing techniques
Who is interested in me posting a demonstration video to my YouTube and posting that here?
Easily brews great coffee
I settled on this method. Bloom with 2x-3x the grains weight, let it drain, and then a single, slow pour.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Long brew time due to small drain hole
Our final product is coming out very bitter and barely palatable.
I doubt 6:30 is so long as to make an undrinkable brew, though.
Potential water temperature issues affecting brew quality
Yeah, I agree with that water temperature might be an issue.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about the effectiveness of different pour-over coffee makers
V60 vs. other similar pour over coffee makers? How much better is the V60 compared to other brands of pour over makers?
I'm not familiar with the pour over device you've mentioned but [Stumptown](https://www.stumptowncoffee.com/blog/pour-over-showdown) has a nice blog explaining the differences between a few of the pour over devices.
>I really like how Kalitas bring out the body of coffee - so I really like to use that with a sweet African coffee because I get a more full flavor than I do with the V60.
A Chemex will minimize the body of coffee.
Comparison with V60 as a gold standard for pour-over
Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Melitta 1 cup porcelain pour-over cone coffee maker?
Discussion about various pour-over coffee makers
They brew well, are a bit more consistent compared to v60, tending to produce a more balanced cup.
Curiosity about the product's history
Supposedly, it's classic design made since 1979 - but there's almost no info about it's history, and I have my doubts about it being in production for 40+ years...
Questions about suitability for small brew sizes
People saying that its not suitable for one person brews ( like 16 grams coffee to 250 grams water) what do you think?
It’s definitely not suitable for a brew that small. We had also replaced a Cuisinart drip maker with a Moccamaster and have been very happy with it as a drip maker.
Discussion about the design and functionality of the water tank
I'm trying to wrap my head around the design.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about convenience versus manual brewing
I am looking for a machine I can just turn on and go away without much fiddeling with it.
General discussions on brewing methods and recipes
No matter what recipe I follow (mostly V60 stuff), everything tastes bitter or sour.
all were okay but lacked much depth and one of them kept coming out either really bitter, or empty and sour.
Do you mean a single pour?
Are you using paper filters that are made from the same type of paper in both brews?
Users share techniques from other pour-over methods
Now I just use James' V60 technique and get great results.

Discussion about filter sizes and brewing capacity
I have the Melitta 4 and is really big, for brewing around 750mL
Confusion about different Melitta filter types
Melitta 102 and 1x2 same or different? I am trying to understand if the Melitta 102 and 1x2 drippers and filters are the same or different?
They are very much different. Someone made an graphic which explains the filter format.
Would you happen to know what size the Clever Dripper uses? (I have one of those as well) Same no 4 Filtropia, Supermarket brand, right?
Comparison of Melitta and V60 brewing techniques
They all make great cups that suit me consistently.
The v60 is definitely reliable as a brewer.
Discussion about brewing techniques and methods
Actually one hole might be better for sweeter brews, allowing you to grind coarser.
I wonder if using a metal filter would allow more oils in a pourover?
Curiosity about filter types and brewing strength
I want a little stronger taste. Any ideas or do you think I just need to settle back into a more mild clean taste?
I did 2 brews one with 20g in and 300 out with 60g bloom. Then stir then poured 240 g pour then agitation.
Splitting into more pours will also help. I’ve enjoyed Rao’s updated method, essentially splitting the main pour into two roughly equal parts, starting the second after the first has drained a cm or so.
Comparison with V60 brewing
It produced a much better cup than anything else I was getting at the time
It worked fine. Small drain hole so you may need to compensate with grind size.
Personal experiences with Melitta brewers
the coffee comes out great. No complaints whatsoever
it’s just like this and it’s my daily driver because the filters are cheap.
Discussion about which automatic machines mimic hand pour-over coffee
while I’d love to make a good carafe of pourover every morning, I just don’t have the time.
It consistently and reliably makes a good pot of coffee.
Melitta Epour does. It pours in circles and has different modes (bloom etc)
General discussion on coffee machines and brewing methods
Ratio Coffee Machine
Curiosity about the price and features of a Starbucks pourover dripper
Has anyone tried the Starbucks pourover dripper? Just saw this behind the Starbucks inside the grocery store I'm shopping in right now, and was very tempted to buy it for the meme.
Usually they list their price with the barcode.
Discussion about grind sizes for brewing
Just google 'kruve brewler download' and you'll find the PDF
Curiosity about recipe effectiveness
I’m dying to hear anyones results who tries the recipe!!!
Curiosity about different grind sizes
Coarse or medium grind?
Lack of comprehensive brewing guides for Melitta
Looking for a Melitta Pour Over Guide
I believe there's a lot to say about the melitta because they're very different in brew times compared to the V60 because of the size of the hole(s).
Exactly. I've seen pros talk about every single pour over brewer apart from the Melitta, which is frustrating.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about automatic pour-over machines
Guess the title says it all.
You mean a drip coffee maker?
Unfortunately this is an actual marketing term being used for drip machines with certain advanced features, like a bloom pause.
Maybe something like a Moccamaster? I got one and I’m extremely happy with it.
Discussion about V60 being a popular choice
So, those of you who have used both, how much better is the V60 *really*?
Use what you feel comfortable with.
Concerns about plastic safety in coffee brewing
Plastics break down continuously and increasing in that break down around the temperatures we use for brewing coffee.
Seems to me that if there was an actual issue the global adoption of plastics for food packaging would have produced a noticeable statistical difference in cancer etc rates.
Submerge the brewer in a boiling water for 4m and take it off. Cool down. Go to a lab and check if there is any trace of plastic or other compounds.
Indoor air quality has become an increasing concern as we simultaneously make buildings more air tight and use more synthetic building and furnishing materials.
