What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Durable and long-lasting brewer
I've used this exact brewer every morning for over a decade. Maybe two decades. It's amazing.
I have the plastic version. It's still going strong at 8 years.
Produces great coffee flavor
Trying pourover, is there any advantage to a Chemex versus a knock-off?
The chemex is more expensive but is worth it.
Durable and well-designed glass material
Seems like the hario V60 is for the advance pour over technique methods but provides the best/complex coffee, chemex is moderate technique and kalita wave is most forgiving.
Produces complex and flavorful coffee
The papers are pretty much the only thing that affect the drawdown in a meaningful way.
Easy to clean and maintain
You can easily see and clean every part of it.
This is a big one for me. I got tired of cleaning a machine. It was gross.
I use a capresso infinity conical burr coffee grinder. It's not bad.
Control over brewing parameters
Why is pour over "better" than a machine? I understand that you have more control of where the water hits the coffee bed.
Getting control over brew temperature, the rate that the water hits the grounds, all of that is wonderful, and tons of people are discussing it already.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about manufacturing locations of coffee makers
It's crazy how stuff like glass pour-over coffee makers, office chairs, and grills are not made in America, seems pretty basic to make here.
Its MBA graduates looking for short term profits.
The glass for the Classic Series and Glass Handle series are made in both Taiwan and Germany. The glass for the Handblown Series is made in Croatia.
it's $50....could a small glass blowing shop could make a few of these per hour and sell them and make it worth while?
Discussion about various filter brands
Cleaner flavor than brown filters and they’re compostable.
Worth looking there if you don't want to wait.
Importance of water quality for brewing coffee
What is the best way to improve your water? And what did the $2 buy you?
As ever, good water is a game changer.
Discussion about filter types affecting taste
The filters is the difference. Neither will make coffee "better" than the other, but the different filters will make different tasting coffee.
Paper filters (especially thick chemex ones) filter out coffee oils and all grounds/fines from the brew (to avoid paper flavor, out the filter into the Brewer and then rinse the filter and dump out that rinse water).

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about pour over techniques and preferences
I would probably not recommend Chemex for a beginner. You can always buy it later once you get your pour over technique nailed down.
I rotate between Chemex, V60 and Wave (as well as B75, Crystal Eye and blue bottle dripper) as my daily drivers and I second every single word in that answer.
Discussion about brewing techniques and preferences
Favorite pour over recipe I'm brewing a 1 cup v60 and I'm using James Hoffman's recipe, which I did have some great results with.
I prefer this method over Hoffmann’s and 4:6 because: 1. Simple 2. Less agitation compared to Hoffmann’s, I don’t like aggressive swirling 3. Shorter brew time compared to 4:6, usually 2:10 to 2:40.
using a spoon on the bloom has completely gotten rid of extra oxidation leaving the cup mid brew. his advice to swirl just once (literally one single swirl) on the draw down has made it a lot easier to manage my draw down.
Once I switched to 4:6 method, I am getting much faster drawdowns around 4 minutes.
Different brewing methods being discussed
What is the best old fashion method for making coffee? They way they did or even still do out on the trail.
I prefer the French press method. Makes great coffee and easy to do.
Without electricity, the only barrier is having a way to heat the water.
Coffee preferences and rituals shared
Back when I was out on the trail, we used to just pack a couple grams into our bottom lip and make the coffee directly in our mouth like God intended.
Coffee pouches definitely exist. Grinds and Java Chews are the only brands I know of, and they're often sold at truck stops.
Heat the water to a boil, turn off the heat and wait for 30-ish seconds. Drop the ground coffee in the water, stir so that all the grounds are wet.
Exploration of coffee pouches as an alternative
He started using them as a caffeine boost without having to make or buy real coffee, furthering an already budding caffeine addiction.
General chatter about coffee making experiences
I got the French press attachment to my jetboil and while it’s absolutely worse than a good quality French press at filtering out grounds, it’s the best coffee I’ve ever had in the backcountry.
I do same but with sandwiches. I like to make it in my mouth.
Exploring different brewing methods
I kinda like the pour over more than the others, I was reading up on how some people here use all or at least two of them on a weekly basis.
1 cup = Aeropress
If i'm in a hurry in the morning I use an Aeropress or Clever Dripper. If i'm not I use a V60.
Ritualistic nature of pour over coffee
This is why I use either French press or pour over. I’ve seen the water that comes out of drip machines, or the goo that builds up in the tubing if you don’t clean it regularly.

Different brewing methods being explored
Worth it kaya mag Pour Over/Coffee Dripper? 🤔 Atm, ginagamit ko lang Drip Coffee Maker, French Press, and Cold Brewing, medyo madami na ata ako nabili huhuhuhahaha.
Start with v60. Affordable gooseneck kettle and weighing scale with timer. Pwede na yan.
2months ago, nasa espresso mode ako. ngayon naman nasa pour over era. main reason is to try yung mga light roasted beans.
I recommend Hario Switch. Hindi mo kailangan matuto ng pouring technique.
Exploration of automatic pour over coffee makers
Are there any automatic pour over makers that don't suck? Guess the title says it all.
You mean a drip coffee maker?
Unfortunately this is an actual marketing term being used for drip machines with certain advanced features, like a bloom pause.
Maybe something like a Moccamaster? I got one and I’m extremely happy with it.
Comparison with other coffee brewing methods
The Melitta cone is literally THE original paper filter coffee dripper.
That's the brand that started it all. The pour over was invented by the namesake.
Comparison of different pour over coffee makers
They all do what they are supposed to do.
Discussion about coffee brewing preferences
PBW (powdered brewery wash) works incredibly well too!
Never noticed the spout being dirty or gross in any way, but maybe I'm just too fussy and clean stuff too often to have noticed any buildup :P
Discussion on various brewing methods and preferences
What pour over coffee maker makes the best coffee?
From what i can gather here the best pour over coffee maker is either James Hoffmann or Lance Hedrick.
Cloth filter, for me, since nothing is perfect for every case.
I have an arsenal of brewers all derive subtle characteristic differences.
Comparison of brewing methods and devices
V60 vs. other similar pour over coffee makers? How much better is the V60 compared to other brands of pour over makers?
I really like how Kalitas bring out the body of coffee - so I really like to use that with a sweet African coffee because I get a more full flavor than I do with the V60.
A Chemex will minimize the body of coffee. It’s filter is really thick so it removes most of the oils from your beans.
I love my clever. Honestly wish I bought one a lot sooner.
Exploration of manual versus electric grinders
Your arms will feel the difference. Don't waste your time and pony up for the Baratza Encore unless you're going for a really low budget setup.
Comparison of brewing methods and preferences
The filters make all the difference.
Given how fine I grind for AP, I might need to stand on it to get any flow with a thick Chemex filter in there.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Pour over coffee requires a ritualistic process
I think pour overs are ideal for people who like going through the ritual/process.
Yeah, I really think the 'Process' is really interesting, lalo na nag French press ako with Hoffmann's technique, and some Local barista na din kase parang nag enjoy siya gumawa ng Pour overs.
Concerns about drip machine cleanliness
The ease of cleaning the thing properly is one big reason I opted for a Wilfa machine with a similar setup to Technivorm's, tbh.
