Kid too big for backpack and too young to hike on their own I have a toddler who is enormous for his age so he is reaching the limits of the backpack I carry him with (osprey Poco plus) but he is too young to be able to hike on his own.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to use and secure

You just have to take hikes easy with them, take plenty of breaks, have them explore. Yeah, it takes a lot longer, and you don't cover as much ground, but it's a worthwhile long-term investment for when they grow a few years older and really enjoy backpacking with you as often as they can.
Wich fabric do you think will be optimal for this? They said their carrier is made from Cordura fabric... But wich weigth? coated or uncoated?
Just thinking about this as well! I can’t fathom a $95 square of fabric!
Ergonomic fit and comfort
Great insight, thanks for sharing! On a good hike, I can get 1-2 miles out of him but yes, it’s very slow going.
I used it today with my Deuter Kid Comfort to double carry and it was perfect.
My kiddo is also 4’1” and a bit heavier than your son, and it works beautifully! I believe it is rated up to 85lbs.
Suitable for various outdoor activities
I’m basically about to be in this boat. We have a new little guy who is just about ready for the pack and the 3yo is old enough (and heavy enough for me) to not be in there anymore.
Oh neat. I am torn between "that's brilliant I'm doing it asap" and "nobody tell my kid." It seems like a much better emergency backup plan than my current "empty the backpack, insert child and pad with soft things" at least.
Easy to use and comfortable
a lot easier and more comfortable than I expected
I have the same pack and the same experience, a lot easier and more comfortable than I expected
They work like rucksacks and the waiststrap is what is supposed to support all the weight
High weight limit allows for long-term use
The Freeloader seems much more ergonomic.

Discussion on DIY child carriers
It appears very simple to make… I may have my mom sew a few for my siblings’ kids.

Discussion on child carrying techniques and experiences
every step I did on my driveway was very unstable and wobbly.
I think the issue is you’ve tried to start carrying your child at a relatively late age rather than starting the child carrying as an infant, which would let you gradually build up to heavier weights as the child grows.
When our daughter was a baby we tried a frame carrier and didn't like it (not only was it heavier but it was more unwieldy and harder on the technical trails in the Northeast).
I carried both kids including on trails and it never felt hard because I had always carried them.
Discussion on trying out child carriers in stores
Need help choosing a Child-Carrier Backpack No text content
You can just do what we did. Bring the kid into the store and stuff him into various carriers to try them out, then when he pukes all over one buy that one.
Comparisons of different child carrier brands
Helps get my son higher to see everything and can barely feel it.
It is excellent quality & comfortable.
We found this one to be the most adjustable and comfortable for our son and for us to wear.
Discussion on suitable carriers for children with special needs
We are going on a outdoor vacation trip and I am looking for a carrier that I can put him on my shoulders or back and go through the mountains.
Hiking backpack carriers have mostly a limit of 50lbs and that includes the carrier, the child and all the items, so it might already be too much if your child is 43lbs.
You need a different solution.
Spend the extra 20-$50 and get a sturdy one. Don’t try to save a few dollars on a cheaper one.

Concerns about children outgrowing carriers
I haven't tried it yet but I'm eyeing the Trail Magik Kid Carrier for when my 2 year old out grows our backpack.
