I have this one and it’s been surprisingly great for the cost!

Positive Feedback

I never liked the hiking carriers. Terrible for overhanging rocks/limbs, too, since the kid is so high up and it's hard to judge if you're gonna smack their head on something.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Great value for the price
I have this one and it’s been surprisingly great for the cost!
Comfortable weight distribution
Ultralight parents! What’s your baby carry method? Snagged some wilderness permits for Yosemite in August.
My partner and I thru hiked the GDT (great divide trail) with our son was 8 months old.
I’m not sure how he will do. He does fine in the stroller but I can’t take that on hikes lol.
What are the shoulder carriers (e.g. minimeis) like? We currently have an osprey poco rucksack carrier.
Adjustable for different body sizes
I love it. The fabric is linen so not too hot and she seems really comfortable in it.
We hike all the time in Utah and my 19 month old still fits in and enjoys it.
It’s a little more expensive (less than others on market) but I highly recommend the wipha baby back
Large storage space for baby items
Much easier to set up a tent, go to the bathroom, hang food, etc when the little one is in the soft carrier.
100% worth it. I have one and it’s excellent quality, isn’t hot or bulky.
Comfortable to wear for long periods
It is missing one velcro padding that would be against the child's back or maybe it's the sunshade canopy that is missing.
Comfortable for long hikes
It is a lot of money to spend, but I have completely moved away from the Ergo baby, sling, moby wrap (too stretchy now) and Lenny Lamb Mai Tai I have because my daughter just won't tolerate them for more than 5 minutes--she doesn't want to be constricted to my body like that anymore now that's she is older--but she has a lot more autonomy and head room and snacking room in the hiking pack.
You may get more use out of it than you expect.
Good weight distribution prevents shoulder strain
Our other carriers are fine and dandy, but don't distribute the weight properly for walks longer than an hour for myself
Can be used as a practical solution for errands
having him not touch anything in the store is a lot easier when he can't reach haha!

Difficult to navigate in tight spaces
I never liked the hiking carriers. Terrible for overhanging rocks/limbs, too, since the kid is so high up and it's hard to judge if you're gonna smack their head on something.
Weight can be cumbersome after long periods
even on our day hikes we were probably carrying no more than 20lbs each and most of that was water so obviously got lighter as the day went on haha!

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Users share experiences with other brands.
Helps get my son higher to see everything and can barely feel it.
It is excellent quality & comfortable. Has a built in sun shade and a section for a water bladder.
We found this one to be the most adjustable and comfortable for our son and for us to wear.
Experiences with different hiking carriers
The Osprey one is good. I used it for a little while but my son didn’t really like riding in it and would hit me quite a bit and cry.
Users share experiences with other carriers
What works best for cats that are anxious is to cover the carrier with a blanket, because seeing unfamiliar surroundings freaks out most cats.
If you have no choice but to walk there, I actually think a cat backpack will probably jostle your cat less than trying to carry normal carrier.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Child carriers are popular but often not used after purchase.
People buy them all the time and then never use them.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Trying carriers in-store is recommended.
You can just do what we did. Bring the kid into the store and stuff him into various carriers to try them out, then when he pukes all over one buy that one.
Borrow or rent first. My kids hated riding in a carrier pack. Hopefully your kid loves it.
The 'easiest to use' baby carrier? I have an Ergobaby omni 360, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to wear it properly.
Thank you for this! I think I will just end up trying a bunch second hand.
Concerns about kids outgrowing carriers quickly
They look similar to tough panda to me.
Discussion about ease of use of various carrier types
I'd love to get something easy and quick for the home.
I wouldn’t buy those, but go for a ringsling.
They help with finding the right carrier and also with adjusting the current one.
They have a learning curve but once you know how to use it it’s so easy! If possible ask help from a babywearing consultant.
Concerns about the ideal duration for forward-facing carries.
Any recommendations for front facing carriers?
Forward facing is extremely simulating for baby and they're unable to turn away from the stimulus to calm down, it’s best to limit it to 15 minutes.
Most major carrier brands have very similar informational posts that caution using outward facing positions.
Recommendations for using soft structured carriers for infants under 6 months
At 3 months I would still use a soft structured carrier, possibly as a back carry if comfortable.
The Ergo baby soft carrier or equivalent is your best option before about 6-8 months.
Discussion about preparing for long hikes with infants
He can’t sit on his own just yet, but is getting there.
Different carriers suit different parents and babies.
I am just looking for something easy to put on and off. Also, comfortable for me and baby.
If you have the chance to try some different carriers, either through a friend or a carrier library or at the store, that would be best.
Experiences shared about various types of carriers.
They are the easiest for me to get on and off by myself too.
I can easily get baby in and out no probs by myself and it’s comfortable.
If you really like it, go for a woven wrap at 2-3 months.
Baby was safe and secure and ergonomic though.
Discussion on trying different carriers
Your best bet is to find some place to try on several different kinds but I know that can be difficult.
Deuter kid carrier is really great for hiking.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about secondhand carriers
My only issue with secondhand is that I’ve always been a germaphobe and covid has made me more so.
Hope that helps. Buying things secondhand let's me get much better quality stuff than I would otherwise.
