Snoop's Take

The Gillette Labs Men's Razor Blade Refills are designed for use with Gillette Labs Razors, featuring an exfoliating bar and five sharp blades for a comfortable and close shave. Users have praised the product for its ability to deliver smooth results with proper technique, noting that it can take some time to master, yet many report incredible comfort and closeness, such as, "I get an incredibly comfortable shave, but the blades last forever." While some users express concerns about the price and the need for skill, the overall sentiment leans towards satisfaction with its performance, suggesting it is a solid choice in the cartridge razor category. Many users appreciate the long-lasting quality of the blades and the smoothness they provide, making the Gillette Labs razor a popular choice among those looking for a reliable shaving experience. However, some negative feedback points to issues such as razor burn and the high price of replacement blades, with comments like, "The razors are alright, but the blades are really overpriced." Despite these drawbacks, users seem to recognize the superior comfort and effectiveness of the product once they adapt their shaving technique. In conclusion, the Gillette Labs Men's Razor Blade Refills are recommended for those who are willing to invest in quality and comfort, as evidenced by the positive feedback surrounding their performance and the overall shaving experience. If you're looking for a high-quality cartridge razor that prioritizes a close and comfortable shave, this product could be a great fit for your grooming routine.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Comfort and closeness of shave
It’s fairly ubiquitous and not terribly expensive.
Smooth and close shave with proper technique
King C Gillette Razor and Blades - Shave isn’t nearly as good as Gillette Mach5.
It can take a little while to get a very close shave as you did on a cartridge.
Learning curve but improved comfort over time
The King C is all about tight angle and very little pressure.
Decent for a cartridge razor
it was pretty decent. Didn't pull and tug like I remembered them doing, didn't leave my skin irritated or burned as they used to and left me with a BBS shave.
Comfortable close shave with Gillette products
What is better for shaving though? I have no issue with comfort.
Fusion is a game changer in getting an absolute close shave.
I’ve never gotten razor burn, feels goooood on the face, smoothest shave ever next to a straight razor.
KCG blades are sharp but gentle
i liked them.
High quality of the product
It’s still a high quality razor and a hell of a lot easier to use than my Gillette old type razors.
Comfortable and close shave
I get an incredibly comfortable shave, but the blades last forever.
Gillette (labs) is much quicker. Maybe it depends on the amount of hair still left on your had or the hardness, but I had to triple move the balder pro over the same spot to get it smooth.
Long-lasting blades with proper care
Anyone Else Love the Gillette Sensor 2-Blade Razor? I'm so tired of disposable razors that only last for 2-4 uses before going dull and shredding my skin.
I totally agree. You get a better shave with the Sensor than with any 5 or 6 blade (how hilarious is that!) razor.
Great performance of Sensor razors compared to multiblade razors
Best multiblade cartridge razor out there.
Sharp and effective blades
So damn sharp, I just shave after a shower and don't even need shaving cream
Comfortable shave after learning technique
Shaving actually feels good, but it takes a different technique.
Saves money in the long run
I spend less than $20 a year shaving. Plus it's actually enjoyable.
Good quality shave butter
Me too. I actually have come to love the damn thing. And their shave butter isn’t bad either

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Overpriced blades
The razors are alright, but the blades are really overpriced.
Requires more skill and technique for effective use
Shaving with a DE is a skill.
Expensive compared to traditional razors
Sure when traveling a cartridge works. Granted I am using it better now.
Blades lose their edge quickly
They work well but lose their edge way too quickly for my coarse hairs and I can’t justify the price if I don’t get more than 2-3 shaves.
Overpriced compared to alternatives
Personally, I find the new Gillette stuff to be overpriced.
Some users experience razor burn and bumps
Many people get razor bumps or burn with the Fusion. Which is why they came out with the SkinGuard.
I’ve been giving myself razor burn for years with a safety razor after reading the incredible disinfo that a single blade is safer and more comfortable than multi-blade razors.
A lot of people, including me, got severe razor bumps when using those early twin blade cartridges.
KCG blades not as good as other brands
They’re not bad blades though.
Overall dissatisfaction with Gillette's direction
Gillette Has it all Wrong. It will be there Down Fall.
Handle feels cheap and poorly constructed
Results are pretty much the same, but not as nice to use and feels cheap.
The only purpose of those razors is to make your pocket lighter while saving money for the company.
Results are similar to previous models, not an upgrade
no matter how i shave with it, it just feels bad, the mach 5 razors are way better.
Perceived value is based on marketing, not quality
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.
Overpriced for features
Razors with fewer blades are better.
I can shave way past exfoliating bar has expired so don’t care about that.
Can cause irritation and razor bumps
my sensitive skin got torn to shreds by both of those razors. Gillette Skinguard is the only razor I can use without irritation.
Cartridge razors can dull quickly in humid conditions
Can't say this for everyone, but I'm pretty sure my cartridge razors weren't lasting is because they lived in a steamy bathroom that was getting used for three to four showers a day.
Learning curve for effective use
Keep your initial expectations in check and tread carefully.
They can really tear up your face if you’re using too much pressure.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about different types of razors
Gillette has razors, some 5 blade and one is double edged blade.
Gillette er Proctor and Gamble know where the money maker is.
I love my KCG. It's a mild razor, but i like that.
Discussion on the evolution of cartridge technology
The evolution in technology with the Exfoliating Bar is essentially a gimmick, and a ploy to make more money off of a cooler-looking design.
Discussion about potential rebranding of KCG blades
I am pretty certain the KCGs are rebranded Platinums.
there is a huge thread on this question over there with microscope photographs of various blades to compare them.
it seems the KCG last longer than the platinum, closer to the 7 o'clock SS.
the KCG is a platinum blade; the 7OC SS is not.
User experiences with various Gillette blades
They are also quite cheap.
Discussion about the razor's unboxing experience
I really like the look and feel of the thing and I’m happy I bought it.
So glad you posted a review! Initially I only saw the unboxing video pop up on YouTube and thought to myself, "I need the full Cosmo review, too".
I popped the unboxing video up and then played with the thing for a while before getting around to using it and writing something up.
Speculation about the origin of the blades
I would expect the blades to be one of Gillette's own products out of Russia, most likely the Gillette Platinum since the box mentions a platinum coating.
Comparison of the razor head design
That head looks very much like the DE-89 head.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about switching to safety razors
Blades are a lot cheaper and of course steel. You will get a better shave and diminish your reliance on disposable bulky plastic razors.
Switch to a safety razor! No plastic just razor blades
Use of different shaving products and techniques
I had to return my T2 because of some quality issues so I shaved with a fusion5 again after a while but, this time with Stirling soap instead of the canned foam/gel I was always using in the past and it was a surprisingly comfortable and very close shave.
Alternative methods to use hot water for shaving
isn’t rinsing your razor under hot water approximately as effective and way cheaper.
Discussion about reusable razors
I'm tired of the waste generated by using and disposing of plastic razors every month.
Get a safety razor. They're only three parts that screw together, the shave is closer and smoother than modern multi-blade razors, and replacement blades are literally a dozen for a dollar.
Or a Gillette. They're still everywhere on eBay.
Various alternatives to modern razors
I have a leaf razor. A version of a safety razor where you use razor blades but less difficult to learn.
A couple years ago I switched to a hair trimmer instead of shaving. I have a bit of stubble everyday but overall my skin has never felt, and looked better.
Discussion on alternative shaving methods
No text content
Far cheaper and better shaves once you get the technique down.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Safety razors are often understocked in stores
Every time I go to a super market like Walmart or Target, the safety razors are on the bottom shelf and there's usually only one stocked.
Discussion on different shaving techniques and products
DE shaving is a journey.
It is normal to do a couple of passes with a safety razor.
Discussion about compatibility of modern blades with vintage razors
The blades seemed to have a more rounded shape back then compared to the rectangular blades of today
Modern blades were designed to fit older razors
The overall shape is still the same. Modern blades will work fine in a vintage razor.
Modern blades work great in it.
Discussion on various razor blade brands and comparisons
I have thick hair, and I only shave every other day, so I need some **sharp** blades.
7'O Clocks Black, Nacet and Platinums are very similar if not the same.
One is made by PPI in Russia, the other by Gillette in India.
My favorite are Gillette super blue, not to be confused with the silver blues...I don't know if they are still produced.
Travel preferences for different types of razors
I use Gillette Guard razors while traveling, when ill or when too tired.
Experience with different shaving techniques
Maybe try hot towelling before you shave if you ever do decide to use a cartridge again.
I keep doing back to double edge safety razors. Cheaper and a better shave.
Discussion about switching to other razor brands for savings
Hello all, What’s the place where I can buy fillets razor reffils for the cheapest price ?
Switching to another brand (Dorco) will yield much more significant savings than trying to find Gillette on sale somewhere.
Discussion about ownership of Gillette blades
Complete list of Gillette manufactured double edge razor blades Hey guys, I'm trying to put a list together of all the current DE razor blades that ~~Gillette~~ P&G makes or owns.
"Makes or owns" is a little unclear. I don't think Gillette makes any DE blades.
Since you seem to know what you're talking about, can I assume that all the PPI blades are the same?
Not even close. They are very, very different. I really like Gillette Silver Blues and Polsilver SIs, but Astra SPs - not so much.
Discussion about alternatives to cartridge razors
I switched to safety razors about 5 years ago so if you want cheaper shaves and more comfort you should look into those maybe.
Mach 3 is the way to go then.
Comparisons between different razor models and experiences
Overall, I have been pretty happy with the Fusion but would love to hear comments from anyone that has tried both as to if one lasts longer or is more comfortable than the other.
The fact is, I can drag a Gillett Fusion across my face with a single squirt of shave oil twice as fast with near-zero nicks.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion of blade performance variability among users
Lots of nicks and had to do multiple passes to get a somewhat smooth result, yet not even close to what I got with Wilkinson's or even Gillette's.
They work great for me, feels super sharp like a Feather.
Bics and they were above average but not as good Feathers or Personna Lab Blues.
It's amazing how much it varies between people.
Concerns about counterfeit BIC blades
The real ones are extremely sharp and smooth.
Concerns about sustainability of plastic razors
Sounds better and more sustainable.
Negative experiences with safety razors
Tbh my experience was a lot of blood - especially when in a hurry.
Discussion about blade performance variability
many people don't have the same experience
a light drag across the skin is all that is needed
Concerns about razor blade marketing tactics
3 blades can’t even cut my facial hair, even if I steam my face and apply shaving cream
I believe there was a big advantage in going from 1 to 2. Thereafter, every year or so, they seem to add MORE BLADES, to chase ever-shrinking advantages.
Discussion about business model myths
Minimal upfront investment.
Change in business model for modern razors
Wasn’t there a change in business model though, which is what their modern approach is all about.
