Snoop's Take

The TIPPMANN Cronus Paintball Marker Gun is designed for both beginners and seasoned players, offering a semi-automatic firing mode and a durable construction. Users praise its reliability and sturdiness, with many stating that "Tippmanns are bullet proof," making it a popular choice for rental markers as well as personal use due to its affordability and ease of maintenance. Feedback from the community highlights the Cronus as being a good value for its price, particularly appreciated for its durable composite body and solid performance even in stock form. However, some users have reported accuracy issues and noted that aftermarket upgrades may not provide significant improvements, with one commenter suggesting that the correct answer to upgrade is to "yes, to a new and better marker." Overall, the Cronus is recommended for those seeking a reliable entry-level paintball marker, though potential buyers should be aware of its limitations in accuracy and performance compared to higher-end models. In conclusion, the TIPPMANN Cronus Paintball Marker Gun is a solid investment for those entering the paintball scene or looking for a dependable rental marker, as long as users are prepared to manage some of its limitations.

Positive Feedback

Accuracy problems with the Tippmann Cronus I’m not sure if it’s just a regular thing to have these problems or if it’s just my marker, but the accuracy isn’t great.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Tippmann Cronus is reliable and durable
Tippmanns are bullet proof.
Tippmanns in particular are known for being virtually indestructible.
Went paintballing with a few friends.
the Etha 3M with a Dye LT-R is a solid mech marker that won't break the bank and will be 100% sufficient for what I'm looking to do.
Reliable and sturdy rental marker
they are sturdy and very very reliable as a rental marker.
Stock Tippmann markers perform well
Delrin bolt for Tippmann markers? Worth it? I was bored, so I decided to look at aftermarket upgrades for a friends Tippmann.
No, run it stock. The only thing you should do to a Tippmann is polish the internals and use higher end o-rings.
I have never felt the need to upgrade my A5 beyond the Squishy Paddles and an Apex Barrel.
Good value for the money
lots of Tippmann markers are good value for the money.
Cheap, loud and fun. I picked up 7 off ebay to get my friends into this.
Durable and long-lasting
Fair point, but I've never heard of anyone describing them as the AK of paintball for that reason, they always say it's just because they're durable.
Easy to maintain and repair
The base gun, when left stock, is still somewhat impressive in that regard.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Accuracy issues with the marker
Accuracy problems with the Tippmann Cronus I’m not sure if it’s just a regular thing to have these problems or if it’s just my marker, but the accuracy isn’t great.
Questions: Is your barrel clean? Is your paint dry, or are the balls oily/was there a broken ball in the bag?
Everywhere the paintball touches, from the hopper to the exit of the barrel, needs to be clean.
Quality and innovation declined after 2004
After Dennis Sr sold the paintball side of the company the quality and innovation took a nose dive IMO
Aftermarket upgrades often don't provide noticeable improvements
the correct answer to "should I upgrade" is "yes, to a new and better marker"
The only real purpose "upgrades" serve on low end markers are to make yours different for the sake of making it "custom".
Using aftermarket parts can be misleading or ineffective
If you are looking at the white ones that they market for the blowback markers, no. Do not get it.
Some Tippmann markers are considered low quality
Just because something is popular doesn't make it good.
A5 is showing its age compared to newer markers
Especially if you are pitting it against other markers that would fall into the 400-600 price range.
A5 may not meet expectations for performance or features
The A-5 isn't a bad marker by any means but it may leave you wanting more.
The A5 is decent and I understand why you dig it but for that pricepoint you can do much better.
Comparison of A5 to more modern and reliable alternatives
$500 and you can get a brand new AutoMag RT ULE. Fully mechanical marker with a response trigger.
Tippmanns are heavy and less versatile for different play styles
Are there better hoppers that 1 can take over the other? Does 1 shoot better with c02/nitro?
Do you already have a Tippmann? If so play with that if not I strongly suggest getting the GoG Enemy. It's better in every category.
I wouldn't take a tippmann a5 into speedball unless you feel super comfortable doing so.
Hopper feed obstructs view when firing around corners
The eNMEy, with it's vertical feed, can be easily fired around both left and right-handed corners.
Tippmann markers considered less effective in various situations
The enemy will be lighter, and easier to clean/care for, and a lot more suited for any play than the tippmanns.
The enemy will be more effective in more situations than the tippmanns.
A5 and 98 models are outdated
I'm a tippmann guy but I don't even recommend the a5 or 98 these days.
Flatline barrels may not improve accuracy
The flatline is about range, not accuracy.
They do create a flatter arc of the ball, they do not increase accuracy though.

Comparison with Spyder markers
spyder victor VS tippmann cronus So I just got into paintball and I was just wondering if the spyder victor or the tippmann cronus was better.
Neither, but if I had to choose it would be the cronus.
Cronus is a fine gun, it's basically a model 98. I would choose that over the Spyder.
And I have to say the spider It’s more suited to you play style
Discussion on balancing gear in paintball games
Yeah I went a few times when I was closer to 20. It can be a lot of fun when the whole group is just kitted out in some pump action rentals.
Yeah, I really wish they would have "tiers" at those places.
It was our groups 1st time paint balling everyone else had double trigger machine guns, it was no fun.
Throw an Apex barrel (gives backspin) on the 3M, add the EMC kit (tacticool) and you have a much better 2024 version of what the kid version of you wanted your A-5 to be.
Experiences with different paintballing strategies
It can be a lot of fun when the whole group is just kitted out in some pump action rentals.
Most fun I had was paint balling on 4 wheelers with a driver and a shooter on each one.
Being strategic instead of being a sprayer is 100% more effective.
Discussion on comparing Etha 3M with Tippmann A5
I'd say get the 3m first since it's a great marker and will a great shooter for you.
Get the Etha 3M. To put it in old-school terms, it feels like shooting a nice AutoMag with zero need for tinkering or troubleshooting.
Commentary on Tippmann's pricing history
This post reminded me of just how badly Tippmann fleeced me back in the day, take your upvote.
Discussion on preferred paintballs for Tippmann markers
Best paintballs in general to shoot for all mark is like Marballizer and Evil it’s under Empire
Discussion on the value of upgrades versus new markers
I was curious as to why someone would buy one of these.
Commentary on the value of older models versus new technology
For 75 you could get a WGP trilogy shipped to your door.
Discussion on differences between high-end and Tippmann markers
What makes really expensive markers like Dye better than the cheaper Tippmann markers? I'm fairly new to Paintball and I've only ever used a Tippmann.
A really bad gun can limit you as a player. Say if you're playing with good paint and a blender. Then you're gonna have a bad time.
This difference is why they are, in my humble opinion, better and also more expensive, sorta.
Shot quality, reliability, better parts, lighter.
Discussion on comparing Tippmann markers to lighter options
>a lot more suited for any play than the tippmanns.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion of paintball markers with pepper ball rounds
Any paintball marker with pepper ball rounds 🤷
General chatter about Tippmann's firearms and paintball gear
What gun do you recommend?
Discussion on the best rental guns in the Tippmann family
Sadly, this top cocking piece does not reciprocate when it shoots.
Discussion on the popularity of Airsoft over paintball
Don't buy that Cronus (or Stormer), yet: the 98 Custom can still be the better tacti-cool offering.
Tribute to the founder of Tippmann
A legend of the sport, and inventor, is no more.
Much respect for that man!
his legend will live on for as long as there are still Tippman 98s and a5s on the field
Debate on comparing Tippmann to other brands
Again I ask what's worse than Tippmann?
a Spyder Xtra and, to a lesser extent due to meh reliability and long trigger pull, an Azodin Kaos 2.
Flatline barrels provide increased range but affect accuracy
Actually flatline barrels do work
