Snoop's Take

The Umarex T4E HDB Shotgun is a .68 caliber training paintball gun designed for recreational use and training scenarios. This versatile marker shoots paintballs, rubber balls, and powderballs at speeds up to 220 fps, powered by CO2 for an economical shooting experience. Consumer feedback highlights the affordable pricing of this training marker, with users noting, "I primarily got mine (bc it was cheap) for LTL." Additionally, many appreciate the solid build quality and the overall fun experience it offers, stating, "super fun to use, all the weight is in the handle so very easy to aim in any situation." However, some concerns were raised regarding the high rate of paintball breakage and the requirement for specific CO2 brands to ensure optimal performance. Despite certain drawbacks, the Umarex T4E HDB Shotgun is recommended for those looking for an engaging and cost-effective training marker. Its strengths in build quality and user enjoyment make it a notable option in its category, though potential buyers should be aware of the issues regarding paintball breakage and performance with CO2 brands.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Affordable price for a training marker
I primarily got mine (bc it was cheap) for LTL.
Seems interesting. And wth 13/3000 HPA compatibility, Cocker barrel threading, and built-in pressure ON/OFF feature.
I think the EMF200 is way ahead of this marker
Positive direction in product development
Kinda felt like most of their offerings so far have been adaptation of air gun tech and missing key paintball things like standard barrel threads and velocity adjustments.
Good build quality and weight
It does not feel cheap. It's built pretty good and has some nice weight to it.
Umarex pistols are fun to use.
Having never shot .50 before it is extremely disappointing.
Fun to use
super fun to use, all the weight is in the handle so very easy to aim in any situation, and surprisingly efficient on co2; you should get 10 mags per 12g.
Good review of the product
it's ***heavy***, but cool. It has a very satisfying feel to it.
What kind of oil would I use ? Do I put it when there is no CO2 cartridge in ? Before putting one in ? Does it need to be fired to lubricate the gun’s inside ?
I use the milsig SOS oil because that's what I have on hand, but any runny marker oil should work (don't use grease as that would obviously gum things up).

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
High rate of paintball breakage during use
No one's been able to fix it yet.
My first one literally broke in half!
Forewarning for the HDR 68: it breaks round balls unfortunately 😭
Requires specific CO2 brand for optimal performance
every single shot seems to explode in the barrel and i was wondering if anyone here has figured out a way to stop this or if we're still SOL on the pistol front
Not suitable for competitive paintball
Literally any other paintball marker.
High rate of paintball breakage
The umarex revolver is shit, stay away.
Umarex pistols are not as useful as .68 caliber markers.
Go with a .68, the umarex pistols are fun but they're nowhere near as useful as a .68 cal.
Difficult to reload under pressure
Understandable, it definitely takes some practice to get comfortable with it.
Legal limitations on power in some regions
Thanks for this! Good call for a holster when investigating things that go bump in the night that may not be bad.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Curiosity about Umarex's design changes
Umarex paintball sim markers are hot trash.
Serious paintball community preference for .68 over .50 caliber
The HDS is fun, though. Love me some HDS.
Discussion about preferences for paintball pistols and features.
Any reason for picking the First Strike Pistol or Tippmann TiPX instead?
I have tippmann and first strike pistols. First strike is much more compact if you are gonna use it as a side arm.
Next thing is hand size ... If you have a big hand TIPX all the way small hands rather Glock or ppq
Community engagement about paintball experiences
I look forward to possibly meeting you when the field reopens
Curiosity about design and usability
it's light, small, easy to use, and fun to look at.
And maybe bulk the tube up a little to fit in a pod pack or attach a belt loop and make a few small ones...
Discussion on measuring joules and velocity
I do not own a measuring device that can track the speed of the outgoing bullets.
Divide the distance by the time of flight for velocity.
You could also try to judge it with bullet drop, chairgun suggests massive difference in drop with 2.8g projectile.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion on less-lethal applications
the HDR revolver and the "faux" pump action HDB keep coming back, as simple efficient - and very power modifable - solutions.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Curiosity about price point and features
The MWS 416 seems solid and ready to go right out of the box, but it’s more expensive.
Debate over the intended use of the product
Nothing they make have key features like adjustable velocities, removable barrels, or the ability to be cleaned on the field, all of which have been standard features on serious paintball guns since the late 1980s.
Interest in home defense use
I definitely couldn’t play actual paintball with it.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Mixed experiences with different types of paintballs
Haven’t had any experience with these but I think first strike rounds if it can take them may fix the issue, the plastic will push the ball rather than the co2
best markers for casual adult colouring? i use pretty easy adult colouring books (even some kids ones) because the intricate designs stress me out, and i purchased a set of markers from amazon (brand is tophip) and i love them ! they aren’t streaky and the colours are super vibrant.. but i want more markers.
Concerns about insurance regulations
They are not field legal most places in the US due to insurance, but I haven't heard many complaints on the marker itself.
Humorous take on determining joules
Shoot yourself in the dick with a pepper ball. If it hurts a little bit its the 7J version.
It's gonna hurt quite a bit even as the 7J version I suspect.
