Snoop's Take

The Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Gooseneck Kettle is designed for coffee and tea enthusiasts who seek precision and control in their brewing process. With its gooseneck spout and accurate temperature settings, this kettle is optimized for pour-over coffee, allowing users to achieve the perfect brew every time. Consumer feedback highlights the kettle's impressive features, particularly its "insane control" over brewing, with many users praising its "good performance for 5 years" and quick heating capabilities. However, some users have noted issues with durability and perceived high price, with comments such as "it's cheaper and heats water more quickly from reviews I've seen" illustrating concerns about its value compared to alternatives. Overall, while the Stagg EKG Pro has received accolades for its design and functionality, some users remain wary of its long-term reliability. In conclusion, the Fellow Stagg EKG Pro Electric Gooseneck Kettle is highly recommended for those who prioritize precision in brewing, but potential buyers should consider user feedback regarding durability and pricing in comparison to similar products on the market.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Accurate temperature control
The flow restrictor makes controlling the stream easy for pourover.
I like the temp control, I usually leave sit at 200 for coffee and then just turn it off at the tea temp I need as it’s on the way up.
Anyone else experience similar issues?
Insane control over brewing
the control I get on this is insane.
Heats water quickly
I love mine.
I've got the Oxo kettle and it heats up super fast if that's something that would sway you.
Precision temperature control
You want temp control for sure.
Good for pour-over coffee
Gooseneck is really a game changer for most water kettle applications.
Just wanted to show off my Stagg EKG Electric Kettle
Adjustable boiling temperature for elevation
The pro model lets you adjust for elevation.
you couldn't really brew above 92 degrees since water boils like at 90.
Good for precise temperature control
Won’t go past 207-208 or so.
Mine also boils around 94-95C but I usually do a pour over between 85-90C.
I think for my espresso, I need and want to bring the temperature to around 93°C, and for that, I need the ability to adjust it.
make sure it's filled to the line.
Good performance for 5 years
Had mine for 5 years and love it. No complaints
Quick heating capability
heats up well.
Good design and aesthetics
It's a piece that sits on my counter that I enjoy looking at.
I do think a lot of their stuff is overpriced but they have great looking products and that matters
Fellow kettles aren’t good for long term usability. As the title suggests, Fellow kettles looks good…..works good but they’re not durable in long term.
It will look cool -- California cool. It will impress those who know.
Effective for pour-over coffee
As far as speed on pour over...it is as fast as I'd ever need it on pour over.
You don't, I have stagg EKG but I still use it at 100 degrees for flair brews, because no matter how hard you push, it's so difficult (or nearly impossible) to brew at 93 degrees.
I highly recommend one.
Durability over time
I’ve had no issues in the four years I’ve had mine.
Reliable heating performance over time
No problems with either of them.
Great build quality and aesthetics
build quality is great and aesthetically pleasing shape
Pleasant user experience
I love it. But I probably would not have paid the $180USD if I was buying it for myself.
Versatile for multiple uses
The advantage of a gooseneck spout for pour over coffee far outweighs the disadvantage of slower pours for everything else.
Controlled pouring for precision brewing
Corvo is great for aeropress/tea and also general use if you don’t mind the small volume.
Quality build and aesthetics
I'm in the market for a Fellow Stagg EKG. Can any long term users share their opinions, thoughts, or review of the product?
Its my go to for all pours, from French Press to V60. It replaced a bunch of others I had, Cusinart, Hario, Bonavita and a cheap variable temp I got as a gift.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Discoloration of the base over time
the base becomes discolored for some reason. Despite how often it’s cleaned, it is no longer the pure white it was, now more of an off white, with a slightly yellowish tinge.
Boiling issues leading to overflow
My $20 kettle from Walmart can hold a rolling boil without spraying water everywhere.
Temperature inconsistencies at high elevations
Sometimes I see the temp jumping up and down between 96 and 87 then boil over.
My Stagg started stopping at 207. Must be a magic number there.
Maybe he used a lower temperature.
Problems after a few years of use
First 2-3 years were great but after that I've had a lot of problems.
Slow compared to typical electric kettles
Stagg EKG: Quite slow compared to typical electric kettles.
Perceived as overpriced
Plenty of electric gooseneck kettles on amazon with the same build quality for less than half the price.
Not seen as necessary for all brewing methods
Is kettle that important for Pro 2 espresso? I've only seen people use full boiling water with it.
Any old kettle will do, added bonus for temp setting.
High price point
Yeah, I just think $170 is pretty steep for an electric kettle.
Reported durability issues
I think what’s more relevant is the durability issue despite the price.
My bonavita has been going strong for nearly 5 years. Heck the base became a nest for cockroaches (was a nightmare to clean up) and it's still fine.
Slow pour rate for some uses
If it pours too slow you can’t do flash brews. This is especially important for puerh teas.
absolutely love it for coffee, matcha (due to precision slow pour) and yerba mate
Intermittent issues with on/off button functionality
Ultimately, I am happy with this decision, but there are some distinct differences that stand out to me that took some getting used to.
Durability issues reported by users
Too bad, the Stagg is much prettier.
Comparison with cheaper alternatives
it's cheaper and heats water more quickly from reviews I've seen.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Value of temperature control in espresso brewing
Just preheat the chamber with steam for a moment and then pour straight from boiling point, there will always be a few degrees lost in the process
The thing is that with pro 2 you lose temperature rapidly to the brew head.
Discussion on kettle aesthetics
what a fancy kettle 👀 it looks like a boutique mechanical keyboard crossed with one of those plastic playdough playset mechanisms.

Discussion on the value of premium pricing
Electric kettles Is there anything inherently better about the Fellow Stagg EKG kettle as opposed to its many clones that cost half as much?
My Fellow kettle question i guess boils down to: Fellow commands a premium price in part, imo, because you’re paying for sort of a fashion/lifestyle choice.
Comparison with other kettles
is say the temperature sensor more accurate?
I dislike it. It doesn't pour well when it's full, and the stream of water breaks apart quickly, meaning I can't pour from very high up in case I'd like to go for more agitation.
I would recommend going with the OXO gooseneck or some slightly bigger brand with some reputation to defend if their product sucks.
I got the OXO last week on special for $79 and it’s awesome! I can’t believe I’ve held out with the non electric gooseneck I was using for that long.
Discussion on kettle aesthetics and pricing
Ergonomics wise I prefer it over the fellow stag, and haven’t found something the fellow does do that this does do.
Your kettle is sick. How much did it cost
the temperature is off by 2°C but it’s something which really doesn’t matter as long as I brew with consistent temperatures
Discussion on value of smart kettles
Does it really make a noticeable difference in taste, consistency, and overall cup quality compared to a standard kettle that only boils water and doesn’t allow for temperature control?
User experiences with kettle across different elevations
Is it possible that the water is "exploding" because you do not have good nucleation points?
Discussion on longevity and investment in kettles
I kinda don’t mind the price if it lasts forever.
General recommendations for other kettle brands
I've had a good experience with this Oxo.
Discussion on value of premium pricing
I want them to keep making new coffee things, so I'm ok with paying more to reward the company.
Discussion on alternatives to Fellow Stagg kettle
Surely, there are devices out there that can do that for less money, or not?
Discussion on the suitability of having multiple kettles
You can open the lid to pour very fast :)
Comparison with other kettle models
Having water at the perfect temperature ALL OF THE TIME is kind of unbeatable, I just grind and go.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on water quality affecting kettle performance
I also leave it about 0.5cm below the max fill line.
Discussion on kettle longevity and reliability
Most reliable electric kettle (not Fellow EKG)
Discussion on kettle pouring consistency
The fact that the Buono's breakup length is so long, suggests that it would do very well agitating the bed.
