The convenience of the auto shut-off feature has also garnered positive remarks, as one satisfied customer stated, "Kettles are just very fast and convenient as they also auto-shutoff." What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Fast boiling time compared to stovetop kettles
And electric kettles still seem insanely fast in the US compared to heating water on the stove.
Yea my electric kettle is half the time than boiling on stove at full temp.
My US electric kettle that is 10 years old boils water waaaayyy faster than my big gas stove. Not even close.
How do I clean whatever is in my electric kettle? I cleaned most of it with just a brush, but It always grows back after I boil water in it.
Convenient auto shut-off feature
Kettles are just very fast and convenient as they also auto-shutoff.
I like the auto shut off too.
Preference for glass kettles due to safety concerns
I'm also seeing a lot of transparent glass-based electric kettles which look really cool because you can see the water boiling.
A lot of people prefer glass due to it not leeching anything and usually being plastic free on the inside.
I think glass wall might actually be better for mineralised water, it's something I prefer because it lets me see exactly what state the inside of the kettle is in.
Effective cleaning method with vinegar or citric acid
It happens everywhere, even if you use filtered water. Doesn't hurt anything, but if you want to clean it, just boil a bit of vinegar with some water in your kettle, let it sit for a while, and rinse it out.
Had the same issue. I've just poured some white vinegar, waited for several minutes, and then used soap and scrubbed any stubborn bits.
We live in a hard water area that leaves our kettle like this. I tried vinegar but found the best thing is a tablespoon of citric acid + fill kettle to minimum line, boil and tip water away, give it a rinse and it comes up good as new with no soap or scrubbing or weird taste :)
The cheaper solution is to fill the empty kettle with 1cm of white vinegar. Heat it until 50 degrees Celsius. Rinse with tap water and have a tea.
Fast and efficient boiling compared to stovetop
I have an electric kettle, and its one of the best fucking appliances Ive had the privilage of using.
Convenient for making various hot drinks quickly
Electric Kettle makes instant ramen life SO much better!
Effective cleaning method with vinegar
My kettle really spits if I put too much vinegar it.
Affordable price point
the $22.99 price tag is a bargain.
Durable performance over time
I've had one for a bit over 2 years now and it's going strong.
Meets daily usage needs effectively
Even dropped it off the counter one time and some plastic on the handle came off but it works perfectly still.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Minerals affect taste if not cleaned regularly
When my kettle looks like the picture, I find it makes my lighter flavored teas taste funny.
Mineral buildup affects taste if not cleaned regularly
Brand new electric kettle has this buildup after very first use.
It will come right back though.
been there, did that, and it doesn't last.
Preference for traditional stovetop kettles in small quantities
Am i the only one who prefers a normal kettle that you put over a stove?
Short power cord makes it difficult to place away from countertop
My only complaint is that the cord is super short, so if you aren't using it right on your kitchen counter, it can be kind of hard to find a good place to plug it in.
Potential quality issues with some models
Mine is an older model too, that supposedly had issues with the lid popping open on its own after a while, but it's been well over a year now and no problem in sight.
I used to have that kettle, I hated it because it was a pain to get the water the right temp (I think the thermometer was broken).

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about electric kettle efficiency
It takes roughly twice as long to boil water in an electric kettle in NA than in Europe.
But frankly the 120v ones are so fast anyways. Would put a smile on my face though.
It was already done absolutely amazing.
Discussion on kettle features and tea preparation
Ottoni Fabricca sell high-end 100% metal electric kettles.
American perspective on electric kettles as a common kitchen appliance
American fear the electric water kettle
Americans don't have kettles? What do they use instead?
It really boggles my yuro mind that those are not part of basic kitchen appliances in the us
Tbh I thought electric tea kettles were common? I use mine for French press coffee.
Discussion on the importance of kettle capacity
It's a super simple operation - just click the lever on, it heats to boiling, then it shuts off.
Discussion about kettle materials affecting taste
I now know it's not tea, but my gear!
Metal is generally safe and has been used for centuries.
Old plastic repeatedly heated will break down and could impact the taste, possibly drastically.
Preference for stainless steel over plastic kettles
Thank you for your answer! It is clearly time for me to say goodbye to this old plastic kettle.

Discussion about alternative tea-making methods
Electric kettle that has NO plastic inside/exposed to heating? My dad uses a steel stovetop kettle he’s had for decades, that has had the spout opening mechanism broken for years for which he rigged up a DIY replacement that makes it super easy to burn yourself pouring.
I give you the Turkish Tea Maker: https://sakiproducts.com/products/tea-maker This thing is pretty great, we’ve had one for over a year and it’s been completely trouble-free.
A samovar! It's also part of the Russian tea tradition. They are excellent for large or long gatherings.
Hey this looks cool! Is it double-walled/insulated? Does it have temp presets for e.g., french press coffee?
Discussion about kettle usability for someone recovering from chemotherapy
She literally moved into a new home two days ago, and the tea kettle is gift I want to give her, and it’s very very important to me that it be correct, because it’s some thing she needs.
Discussion about smart kettle control options
Homekit Kettle... yet? It's been discussed many times but I wasn't able to find a recent thread.
Why not have one that’s controlled by a smart plug.
I think our kettle is rather basic, has a switch for on/off and if we used it more I'd be inclined to add a smart plug to it and tell Siri to flip it off/on when we need it.
Casual commentary on boiling noodles in a kettle
Would love to see the face of my SO as I casually start pouring noodles out my kettle into a bowl.

Comparisons to European kettles and voltage differences
Wow that's slow. 240v here. A USD$15 2L kettle should boils in less than 2 mins.
Discussion about cleaning methods for kettle residues
Is this mold or rust forming in my electric kettle? Safe to use still?
I've already tried washing it out with hot soapy water, but this picture is what I still have left.
Vinegar works best. Happens to my kettle quite often.
Pour vinegar and water together (50-50 is fine, play around a bit if you want) up to at least half capacity.
Difference in kettle voltage options
Big difference between 240 and 120 kettles
Discussion about alternative kettle brands
Bonavita makes the best electric kettles. All the tea freaks my wife (who is one) and I know have them.
Exploration of kettle maintenance and descaling
Maybe your kettle needs to be descaled?
Discussion about kettle cleaning issues and descaling
Help! I just bought an electric kettle and have tried to descale (more than once) with baking soda and also have washed in the inside with a soapy sponge, and yet each time this stuff ends up floating on top - what is it and how do i get rid of it??
Background info is that it's a brand new Ovente 7-Cup Silver Cordless Electric Kettle Stainless Steel Removable AntiScale Filter Centered Water Gauge from Home Depot. Also open to buying something else if somebody has a recommendation!
Seeking recommendations for electric kettle purchase
I'm finally gonna buy an electric kettle. What are your recommendations?
Bonavita Electric Kettle
Hopefully it gets the job done :)
There are increments of 5 degrees and it works fantastic. Simple to use as well. :D $40
Discussion about tea preparation methods
Most Brits boil tea in an ELECTRIC kettle.
we don't boil tea in an electric kettle, we boil the water, and then add it to a teapot with tea.
Either an electric kettle OR an actual metal kettle on a gas stove or gas heater.
As an American, I find it horrifying that so many people make tea that way.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about boiling water and kettle materials
Certain types of borosilicate glass are fine to heat water in, but if you leave the water boiling for too long, heat will transfer directly to the glass (as water cannot get hotter than 212F) and potentially shatter it, so pay attention.
Fellow has a silicone seal around the temp sensor in the water, so not 100%.
Yeah that's such a bummer, do you think the o ring used there is safe in boiling water?
Silicone is an extremely inert material for this purpose. It can handle insanely high temperatures.
Concerns about kettle materials affecting water quality
You certainly don't have to be grossed out.
Discussion about kettle durability and teenage use
Looking for one that's durable and will stand the test of teenagers in the kitchen.
I bought one from Costco ~2 years ago and it’s been great.
I’ve had a Zwilling kettle that I really like.
Discussion about why electric kettles are less common in the US compared to Europe
Americans typically don't have electric kettles because unlike Europe and Australia who's power grid is around 240v, in the USA it's 110v so the kettles take 4-5 minutes to boil instead of like 2.
Discussion about varying experiences with different kettle models
I thought it was pretty good for as much as I use it.
Comments on kettle durability after frequent usage
Yeah, I use it about twice a day, every day.
Discussion about the perception of electric kettles in American households
Was always told Americans don't generally have electric kettles becasue of reasons (120V, non loose leaf tea drinkers, etc take your pick)
I have an electric kettle and I don’t drink that much tea. Brits are definitely too interested in our potential lack of a kitchen product.
Making my tea would be inconvenient without it. We're not nearly as into tea as you guys (I'm assuming you're from the UK), but that doesn't mean we're not into it at all.
In the same scene right there you can actually see the stove-top kettle.
