Boils water quickly
And electric kettles still seem insanely fast in the US compared to heating water on the stove.
This, I have a kettle from Amazon that boils water in 2 minutes. That's way faster than my stove.
My US electric kettle that is 10 years old boils water waaaayyy faster than my big gas stove. Not even close.
Yea my electric kettle is half the time than boiling on stove at full temp.
Convenient auto shut-off feature
Kettles are just very fast and convenient as they also auto-shutoff.
I like the auto shut off too.
Seems to be a lot of panic and confusion in this thread: Americans typically don't have electric ke
BPA-free for safe drinking water
This is because of the different voltage standards around the world (240 vs. 120). It is also why stovetop kettles are more common in NA than in other parts of the world.
Long-lasting durability
I've had that exact model for 2 years and I'm loving it.
Convenient size for individual use
a lightweight, beautifully designed automatic, shut off electric tea kettle in a blue tone, light, blue, preferred, peacock, or dark, blue woodwork, or black.
Excellent investment for daily use
this $20 water kettle from Amazon was an excellent investment! I use it everyday.
Good value for the price
the $22.99 price tag is a bargain.
Reliable performance over time
I've had one for a bit over 2 years now and it's going strong.
Even dropped it off the counter one time and some plastic on the handle came off but it works perfectly still.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Not as fast as European kettles
I get pissy when it takes longer than 2 minutes for 1.7litres.
Wow that's slow. 240v here. A USD$15 2L kettle should boils in less than 2 mins.
Plastic parts may leach into water
The plastic definitely leaches into hot water. You can taste it.
You know that water level visibility column is plastic too.
It's possible that the plastic is breaking down and leaching into the water, especially since it's so old.
Old plastic repeatedly heated will break down and could impact the taste, possibly drastically.
Noisy when boiling
Does it make a noise when it boils?
Preference for glass kettles over plastic
I think glass wall might actually be better for mineralised water, it's something I prefer because it lets me see exactly what state the inside of the kettle is in.
Preference for stovetop kettles over electric
Am i the only one who prefers a normal kettle that you put over a stove?
Short cord makes it inconvenient
My only complaint is that the cord is super short, so if you aren't using it right on your kitchen counter, it can be kind of hard to find a good place to plug it in.
Previous models had lid issues
Mine is an older model too, that supposedly had issues with the lid popping open on its own after a while, but it's been well over a year now and no problem in sight.

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Temperature preferences for brewing
the temperature choice is key for tea drinkers
But what temp you initially bring the water to will depend on brewing technique.
I use an aeropress. The 185 water is poured in on the coffee within 2 seconds.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about alternative electric kettles and tea brewing methods.
Are there any electric kettles preferably under $100, $200 max that are fully steel or aluminum with no internal plastic elements exposed to heat, that will last?
It’s a three part electric kettle. The electric base, the main boiling pot, and the warming pot. All surfaces touching water are metal.
A samovar! It's also part of the Russian tea tradition. They are excellent for large or long gatherings.
Hey this looks cool! Is it double-walled/insulated? Does it have temp presets for e.g., french press coffee?

Discussion on electric vs stovetop kettles
Whenever I need to boil water for pasta, I fill half my pot with hot water and also put the kettle on boil.
It takes literally half the time to boil than if I had boiled all the water in the pot.
Comparisons of boiling times with different methods
Tech Choristers: Do it! Do it! Do it! :o)
Would put a smile on my face though.
Discussion about cleaning kettles with vinegar
Vinegar works best. Happens to my kettle quite often.
Pour vinegar and water together (50-50 is fine, play around a bit if you want) up to at least half capacity.
Discussion about mineral buildup in kettles
Just minerals. You certainly don't have to be grossed out.
When my kettle looks like the picture, I find it makes my lighter flavored teas taste funny. I proba
Discussion about cleaning kettles with vinegar and alternatives.
Brand new electric kettle has this buildup after very first use.
It happens everywhere, even if you use filtered water. Doesn't hurt anything, but if you want to clean it, just boil a bit of vinegar with some water in your kettle, let it sit for a while, and rinse it out.
been there, did that, and it doesn't last. I want a more permanent solution
I've just poured some white vinegar, waited for several minutes, and then used soap and scrubbed any stubborn bits.
Discussion about descaling methods
it removes all the scale in seconds
any acid will work
Discussion on cleaning kettles with vinegar
My kettle really spits if I put too much vinegar it.
Comparison of different kettle brands
Bonavita makes the best electric kettles.
Discussion about budget electric kettles
Best affordable electric kettles with temperature control? I’m looking for a kettle with temperature control that’s around $30 dollars or less.
If you can expand your budget to a little over $50, I found a decent Cosori brand electric kettle off Amazon that would probably fit your qualifications for temperature control.
Fair warning: you get what you pay for.
I’m fine with presets as long as they start at around 170 Fahrenheit.
Mention of descaling kettles to improve performance
Maybe your kettle needs to be descaled?
Discussion about descaling methods for kettles.
The cheaper solution is to fill the empty kettle with 1cm of white vinegar.
You need something acidic to descale. Commercial descaling solutions work well, as does white vinegar or lemon juice.
I use citric acid to descale. Very hard water here.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Challenges of hard water affecting kettle performance.
It will come right back though.
Discussion about kettle durability
Ours bit the dust and it was a cheap one.
Big difference between 240 and 120 kettles
I bought one from Costco ~2 years ago and it’s been great.
I’ve had a Zwilling kettle that I really like.
Experiences with longevity of electric kettles
It's a super simple operation - just click the lever on, it heats to boiling, then it shuts off.
Discussion about kettle automation and smart technology integration
Homekit Kettle... yet? It's been discussed many times but I wasn't able to find a recent thread.
Why not have one that’s controlled by a smart plug.
I think our kettle is rather basic, has a switch for on/off and if we used it more I'd be inclined to add a smart plug to it and tell Siri to flip it off/on when we need it.
Discussion about kettle longevity
Three years may not be much, but I thought it was pretty good for as much as I use it.
