What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Versatile cooking capabilities beyond rice
I love this cheap thing so much.
What would I be able to make inside the simple function rice cooker besides rice?
We have a similar one with just cook and warm. So far we did hotpot on it, pretty good, but recommend boiling the water separately to get it hot faster.
I put one cup of rice and 2 cups of frozen mixed veggies (corn/carrot/pea/etc) in a rice cooker.
Affordable and effective
Is this Aroma rice cooker a good product?
if it's the one that's like $25/30 on amazon it rocks
Affordable price point
Very, very basic. Rice is just as good.
Question: Cook button won't stay down on new rice cooker
I absolutely love that little $20 thing. Just dump things in and push the lever. That's it.
Easy to clean nonstick inner pot
I never have to worry about flaking cetamic or PTFE and my stainless steel pot will last the rest of my life.
Even a soak in hot water will make cleanup easy.
Reliable and efficient cooking
Has served me so well. Makes more than enough rice for 2 people in one go.
Easy to use with one-button operation
I’m tired of wasting time doing it on the stovetop.
Use the clear cup that came with it to put the rice in. If you put in two cups then fill it up to the 2 cup line.
Great for small portions
Yeah, that’s a looooot of rice. I’ve got an Asian family of 3 here and we make 3 cups of rice a day and that gives us leftovers for bento the next day!
Do you need a 16 c. rice cooker. That’s a lot of rice. I have the Aroma in the picture and it works great.
Reliable performance over time
Never had a problem with our Aroma rice cooker and we’ve had it something like ten years.
Never had a problem, but i mostly cooked rice and other grains in it.
Budget-friendly choice for students
I'm not quite sure which rice cooker seems good since black and decker is a brand I know but aroma is something I haven't even heard of
if you're a college student and don't have much money just get whatever the cheapest home brand one is, or a near-free one on fb marketplace, they still do a good job
Consistent cooking results
It's one of the few rice cookers I've ever used that gets the rice just the way I like it every time.
It's also so easy to clean!
Effective rice cooking results
Thanks, you saved my valentine's day dinner tonight :) My fiancee' was having trouble, I did some research found your post and it worked! Thank you :)
Easy to use with simple operation
Thank you. A 2p coin has just saved our rice cooker.
Compact size for small portions
I love mine; works pretty good.
Great for cooking rice and steaming
My $30 aroma rice cooker works perfectly fine and makes great rice, steams and does everything I need it to.
it works great. No problems.
Versatile for various dishes
Hi, I recently got a rice cooker from my mom's friend at work yesterday.
My favorite thing is measure out rice and water, then throw a whole buncha other stuff in it.
User-friendly operation
It's just a big fat delicious pancake. To be clear - it's not the primary use of my rice cooker.
Reliable automatic warm feature
The rice cooker, even the simplest type, is designed to detect when the water had gone and then switch to warm.
Effective rice cooking results with proper technique
Put the water in up to the line indicated by how many scoops you have and bam! That’s it.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Limited functionality for non-rice dishes
IMO rice cookers are for rice. While they CAN cook a few other things, let it do what it does best.
Rice can burn at the bottom
My instapot also left a hard crust at the bottom.
Limited measurement guidance for brown rice
Brown rice requires **significantly** more water than white rice.
May require soaking to prevent sticking
You seem to have very little grasp of real life customer behaviour in the use of rice cookers.and we understand that.
I am also looking for a quality rice cooker that uses a SS inner pot.
Perceived quality issues with competing brands
Aroma. B&D products are garbage imo.
Not suitable for cooking eggs
Both times they’ve broken it has come while cooking eggs in them.
Cook button malfunction issues
In my experience, these budge machines are controlled either by temperature or weight.
Potential difficulties with rice cooking technique
Mine used to freak out like that, so I would lift the pot out and plug in, or vice versa. Then I could push the button down.
Instruction manual lacks detail
Did it not come with an instruction manual?
Unfortunately it just basically told me what said in the post, which is not a whole lot of information.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about stainless steel inner pots
The problem is, my rice cooker is a compact 3-cup model, and finding a stainless steel inner pot has been a challenge.
You could also look at Tatung (my mom uses this), instantpot (I use this) or itaki (more of a steamer but it can cook rice) they all use stainless steel inner pots.
Praise for Tatung rice cooker performance
Never purchased, I inherited one that is older than me (I'm in my 40s) and it makes perfect rice every time.
Preference for stainless steel inserts
Buy the one with a stainless steel insert.
Comparison with Instant Pot features
It looks to have nearly the same functions as the Instant Pot: Rice, Multi-grain, Quick Rice, Steam, Cake, Yogurt, Soup/Broth, Oatmeal, Slow Cook, Saute.
Personally I'm more than happy with just my pressure cooker, and use the actual pressure cooking function often enough that I wouldn't get rid of it.
I heard that cooking rice in a pressure cooker/instant pot is way faster and gets slightly better results depending on what you are comparing it too.
Most especially for long term cooking as it shaves off as much as a couple hours from certain things.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Convenience of using Instant Pot for rice
we have a cuckoo we barely touch because the instant pot is just more convenient.
Makes rice in 12 minutes
both of my rice cookers take a while to cook compared to 12 minutes.
you can use it in a saute function with the lid off (so one less pan to clean), which is useful for non-rice recipes as well!
Discussion on using rice cookers for baking and steaming
I have made a "giant pancake" cake in my Zojirushi using the cake setting and it is a novel way to bake without warming up the whole house while making a hands-off giant pancake my kids can enjoy for breakfast.
Steaming eggs for 15 minutes makes hard cooked eggs that are easy to peel after placing in an ice bowl for 10 minutes.
Discussion around alternatives to nonstick cookware
Spending 20 minutes scrubbing a stainless steel inner bowl clean of glue like cooked rice is not fun.
I find soaking my stainless pot makes the rice slide right off with hardly any scrubbing and the peace of mind i get from knowing there is nothing in my food like non-stick or ceramic is worth it to me.
Variety of cooking techniques and rice types mentioned
that's it.
most people do not when using a stove and just boil the crap out of their rice which releases too much starch and turns the grains to sticky mush.
Discussion about using rice cookers for recipes
Don't forget to include a recipe in the comments. If you do not include a recipe or instructions to make the dish your post will be removed.
Discussion about slow cooker function
I can't do that for this. So, is there a way to cook something on "high" level heat for that long, or recipes that require that heat ad time, or am I only going to be able to use the slow cooker function if I am only gone for a short amount of time?
Since this is a phase change, the temperature is consistently 100C, so it stops cooking when it gets hotter than that because there is no water left to boil.
Discussion on creative recipes
Interesting. Is it possible to make those rice cooker pancakes with instant pancake mix?
No idea but the recipe itself seems like a pretty standard pancake recipe

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Need for measuring cup clarification
I was gifted an Aroma rice cooker. It didn't have the measuring cup.
[Here's the official rice cup replacement](https://www.aromaco.com/product/rice-measuring-cup/?srsltid=AfmBOor2uShTc-cbLfIKqfBrGvPE1blfKIxJARAMbm67ZonrD1nZfUf8), but as the other commenter said, replacement cups can be found elsewhere.
The standard rice measuring cup is 160 ml or 2/3 cup.
Various rice cooking ratios shared
For jasmine rice, I've always done 1c rice to 1 and 1/4c of water.
My Zojirushi cooks brown basmati at 1-1/2 C. rice to 2-1/3 C. liquid.
Advice on presoak techniques and rice cooking technology
Get a timer and experiment.
Alternative rice cooker recommendations
Any good induction rice cooker with fizzy logic should produce good rice.
Discussion on rice cooker comparisons
Always perfect rice without any burning on the bottom or drying out up top.
Discussion about rinsing rice
Rinse the rice 2-3 times
Lost the cup a while ago, unfortunately. But I've heard you don't really need to rinse jasmine rice.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on toxins in nonstick cookware
your rice cooker doesn't get anywhere near hot enough since nonstick coating is inert up to like 260-300C.
Discussion on cooking Persian rice
I'm sure it's not as good as your own tadik recipe, but it's nice that rice cookers are being made with that setting.
If she could have her tahdig without the excess oil (she's very health conscious) I think she'd love it.
Discussion about troubleshooting tips
Another good way is to fold tin foil and use as the spacer between the pot and spring
