What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Versatile for cooking various foods
I can make perfect crispy dumplings in my rice cooker.
Can I cook all these recipes I'm seeing online in my $30 Aroma Rice Cooker?
rice cooker meals have come out fine. You should be good.
the first time I heard some ground beef sizzling in my rice cooker I *squeeeeeeeeled*
Easy operation with one-touch feature
Yes you can.
Can I add stuff into the rice cooker with the rice and water? Can I just throw stuff in the rice cooker with the water and the rice?
will a nicer Zojirushi avoid this issue or is this a me issue?
Versatile for making different foods
Rice cooker = popcorn popper I had to turn it off because I made too much!!!
I actually have that version in the picture because I like to make stir fries, and I'm only one person so the smaller size is perfect for me.
It’s so much easier to clear off a single burner for stir fry than two burners for stir fry and rice.
Makes great rice without burning
Cheap (but great) rice cooker, cheats freezer bag rice cooker meal Caveat: I think rice cookers are the shit versus using a pot.
The Aldi one OP posted is night and day compared to the Kmart rice cooker.
I do essentially the same thing. Perfect rice every time.
Versatile for soups and other dishes
Rice will be perfect but will have the benefit of the seasonings and chickens fat and skins herbs and spices.
Cooks rice quickly based on quantity
Also it cooks quicker if there’s less rice.
Easy to use for lazy cooking
I just like the rice cooker cause I'm lazy.
Long grain white rice is what I use.
Makes meals for days with leftovers
When I fully season with the fresh veg I can make meals for days out of the leftover rice/beans a couple tortillas and some cheese.
Great for consistent cooking of rice
Been using it consistently for more than half a year now, its great!
Aroma had uneven cooking of white rice whereas Tiger ensured every grain was white fluffy perfection.
Cooks rice well and consistently
Other than the basket, is there difference on how the rice is cooked on this one
It makes more rice than the first two, which is good if you need it.
Affordable option for rice cooking
I'd spend $10 for more functions. Steaming (sweet potatoes etc) is something I personally use all the time.
Easy to clean with proper care
I am also looking for a quality rice cooker that uses a SS inner pot. I'm very interested to hear what you think of the cooker you bought.
Even a soak in hot water will make cleanup easy.
Works great for budget-conscious users
I want to make various fried rice recipes (chicken, shrimp, egg etc).
Works great.
Aroma rice cooker (cheap options) works awesome and easy
Much better than stove top.
Easy to use and convenient
If you decide to get one, the Aroma rice cookers are cheap and some have a steam basket attachment too.
Versatile for multiple cooking methods
My mom got me one last year and gave me a cookbook that says you can cook rice then put the basket thing in to air fry or pressure cook some chicken or salmon or whatever on top of it and all the dropping drip into the rice for extra flavor.
I make takikomi Gohan in mine. Nice little one pot meal.
Once you have a good understanding of making just rice, just salmon etc., it starts to get easier to adjust things a bit so you can make whatever you want in the pot all at once.
Great for making various grains and dishes
The yogurt function is legit and it gets used weekly to make Mexican beans.
This thing is my personal chef 😂, It waits on me.
Easy to use with straightforward operation
You said it yourself. You have to turn it off right away or it will brown.
It is amazing and really makes having fresh rice so easy and there are no mistakes that happen like when you cook on the stove.
I love mine; works pretty good.
Keeps rice warm for extended periods
it is plenty hot an hour later.
Having rice perfectly cooked and staying perfectly cooked for over 12 hours is great.
Affordable and accessible option for rice cooking
So I'm genuinely curious, are they really worth that price tag? Would it make your rice taste better?
I have a Aroma that I love that's going on 25 and it makes great rice, or I at least have learned to make great rice in it.
Reliable brand for budget rice cookers
Owning a rice cooker has saved me so much time and money.
Makes more than enough rice for 2 people in one go. It’s like the apple product of rice cookers, one button. Easy.
Reliable performance for rice cooking
it works great.
Never had a problem with our Aroma rice cooker and we’ve had it something like ten years.
Both times they’ve broken it has come while cooking eggs in them.
Never had a problem, but i mostly cooked rice and other grains in it.
Perfect for small household sizes
When I went off to college my grandma gave me a tiny little aroma and it was perfect!
Affordable option for budget-conscious users
they still do a good job
I definitely don't want to/can't splurge much.
Reliable performance for consistent rice cooking
It's one of the few rice cookers I've ever used that gets the rice just the way I like it every time.
It's also so easy to clean! When cooking rice, if I add extra water, it's perfectly sticky rice.
Effective slow cooking despite only having high setting
I can't do that for this. So, is there a way to cook something on "high" level heat for that long, or recipes that require that heat ad time?
Veggies don't overly mush so it feels more like a med to med/high setting.
Manual helps understand slow cooker quirks
The manual should be helpful for understanding the quirks of your particular cooker.
Makes great rice
it works great. No problems.
if it's the one that's like $25/30 on amazon it rocks

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Limited primarily to rice cooking
IMO rice cookers are for rice. While they CAN cook a few other things, let it do what it does best.
I’m so annoyed, I threw out my rice cooker because I never used it
I just find it easier to make rice in a pot for myself tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️
I personally hate every Aroma rice cooker i have had
Safety concerns when using for other purposes
A stovetop is a much better and much safer way to make popcorn.
Not suitable for instant rice
I dont think instant rice should be cooker in a rice cooker but I could be wrong.
Knorr is not for a rice cooker.
Difficult to clean due to non-removable lid
It does keep rice warm and cooks rice okay, but it feels like it’s missing some features that would make life easier.
Limited functionality beyond rice cooking
Spending 20 minutes scrubbing a stainless steel inner bowl clean of glue like cooked rice is not fun.
Personally I'm more than happy with just my pressure cooker, and use the actual pressure cooking function often enough that I wouldn't get rid of it.
Rice can burn if not monitored
rice will still turn brown if I don't use enough water, but it's much easier to clean.
You would be amazed at how even 1 minute of extra scrubbing for a pot would put people off using that pot again.
Stainless steel inner pot can lead to sticking
Our 20 minutes of scrubbing refers to people who cook in a stainless steel inner pot then leave the remaining rice in the pot whilst eating their rice and then going back to the pot afterwards to try and wash their pot.
Requires monitoring to prevent burning
I have stirred things into the rice or replaced the water with stocks/broths, but never cooked anything on top of it.
Requires monitoring to prevent rice from burning
Mine has a delay where I can set it up and it's ready anytime within a day.
Not suitable for cooking all rice varieties perfectly
whoa, you're telling me that this wondrous machine keeps rice warm for days and maintains its moisture/quality? (I'm not the original commenter, just a passersby whose mind you've blown!)
Potential water leakage issues
I've noticed that way more people buy black and decker so there seems to be reviews saying that the rice cooker leaks water but at the same time have a lot of good reviews as well.
Perceived lower quality compared to other brands
Aroma. B&D products are garbage imo.
Instruction manual lacks details for slow cooking
there was only 1 page about the slow cooker function.

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about preferences for insert materials
Buy the one with a stainless steel insert.
Discussion about different Aroma models
Rice cooker cooks rice perfectly (backed by 8 comments)
Discussion about different rice cooker brands and features
Our family has always made by soaking and stove. As my mom gets older she sometimes forgets and the rice burns, I am worried about something worse happening.
Zojirushi is *the* brand for rice cookers. Works perfectly for Basmati rice for me (2:1 ratio).
Any one of the brands with the actual induction cooking feature is AMAZING. Best rice cooker by a mile, and I have tried and owned many.
Discussion on slow cooker function limitations
Did it not come with an instruction manual?

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Discussion about searing in rice cookers
I was gifted an Aroma rice cooker. It didn't have the measuring cup.
Discussion about cooking techniques with rice cookers
ah I see, that makes sense. Both of my rice cookers take a while to cook compared to 12 minutes.
Yes, you can use it in a saute function with the lid off (so one less pan to clean), which is useful for non-rice recipes as well!
Discussion about cooking oatmeal in the rice cooker
Thanks for the reminder and the tip!
Discussion on using rice cooker for popcorn
I googled just to double check this would be safe in a cheap rice cooker and went for it! Remember, the size of your rice cooker makes a difference on how much popcorn to pop
Yes I’m aware you can do this quite easily on the stove or in a microwave as a few of you have quite snidely pointed out. Please remember this is a sub for rice cooker recipes, not an “obvious food hacks” sub.
Discussion about recipes and cooking techniques
Getting 10 packs of Knorr. Anyone know how to cook that much in a rice cooker?
Better than any Mexican restaurants around here. Only way to get it better is to actually make the rice the old fashioned way and toast it in a skillet.
They also sell knorr bouillon cubes you can use to make stock, so if OP specifically enjoys the flav
I'm going to try it. Thank you!
Exploration of alternative ingredients
MSG is good though. In fact, it naturally occurs in tomatoes, so it's already in whichever tomato product you use for Spanish rice lol
Suggestions for alternative uses
even a cheaper rice cooker would save you a ton of time if you are using it twice a week and would definitely be worth the investment based on time saved alone.
Suggestions for cooking techniques and recipes with rice cookers
It's nice that rice cookers are being made with that setting.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Suggestions for cooking techniques
You can. I'd place the extras on top of the rice and not add any sauce until the rice is done, to prevent it burning.
look up easypeasyjordan, lil kid has many rice cooker recipes and pretty good too.
Suggestions for rice cooking ratios
For jasmine rice, I've always done 1c rice to 1 and 1/4c of water.
The standard rice measuring cup is 160 ml or 2/3 cup. So by using those measurements, you can actually use the water lines on the pot.
Availability of replacement measuring cups
replacement cups can be found elsewhere.
Discussion on how rice cookers work
It’s not the magnet that has a curie temparuture just over 100°C, it’s actually a ferro magnetic alloy plug at the base of the cook pot.
A small correction: It's not the magnet that has a curie temparuture just over 100°C, it's actually
As long as there’s water, the temperature stays around 100°C. But once all the water has been absorbed by the rice or turned into steam, the temperature starts to rise above 100°C.
Comparisons to other cooking methods
So, theoretically yes. But I never in a million lifetimes thought to use my rice cooker to make that specific magic happen.
She laughed and told me to go to the large Asian grocery store nearby and buy the same less than $20 rice cooker she and everyone in her family use.
Discussions on alternative rice cookers
Only tried brown jasmine
Any good induction rice cooker with fizzy logic should produce good rice.
Comparisons with other rice cookers
I've been using the K-Mart rice cooker for 4 years and it's still working so well.
Kmart has a very similar looking one too for $65 (not as cheap as what Aldi has, but at least is always available).
Comparison with higher-end rice cookers
Honestly the setting the time function when the rice cooks is a huge plus for me.
Discussion about cooking techniques and water ratios
Get the water ratio right. Not too wet. You will be amazed at how the rice comes off as you scoop.
Rice does stick if you do it wrong, but it comes away beautifully if you do it right.
Advice on soaking rice for better results
To avoid sticking issues I would not use the warm option. Once the cooker switch to warm I unplug and cover the top with a towel to keep vapor in.
Discussion on cooking techniques and recipes
Gives it a lovely flavor.
We love cooking it with chicken stock too.
Cooking techniques shared among users
Grits, congee, cream of wheat etc I love I just can't into oatmeal.
Techniques for cooking basmati rice and water ratios
1.75 water to 1 rice works well for me in the rice cooker.
You also do not need to leave it on a burner.
Discussion on differences between rice cooker brands
It’s fine. Only complaint is the water that collects in the lid doesn’t have a very sophisticated draining system, which is fine.
Discussion on rice cooker capabilities compared to pressure cookers
I heard that cooking rice in a pressure cooker/instant pot is way faster and gets slightly better results depending on what you are comparing it too.
I had an aroma before my IP. The only reason i upgraded was i wanted a bigger one.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion about nonstick concerns and alternatives
You could also look at Tatung (my mom uses this), instantpot (I use this) or itaki (more of a steamer but it can cook rice) they all use stainless steel inner pots.
what toxins are these? your rice cooker doesn't get anywhere near hot enough since nonstick coating is inert up to like 260-300C.
Discussion about grounding and safety concerns
What if I pour water in the cooker (without the pot).... is the water conductive then?
Discussion about rice cooker brand preferences
We cook rice almost alternate days.
I've had a zojirushi for probably over 6-8 years honestly and it's still perfectly fine.
Both are good choices.
Since this is the top comment and I cannot edit my post, I will reply to all here. ———- Update: Wo
Exploration of rice cooker materials and safety concerns
Very, very basic. Rice is just as good. Easier to clean.
User experiences with different rice cookers
I still use the aroma to make all grains and polenta, and to steam eggs and dumplings.
Troubleshooting tips for malfunctioning cook button
Question: Cook button won't stay down on new rice cooker
In my experience, these budge machines are controlled either by temperature or weight.
Another good way is to fold tin foil and use as the spacer between the pot and spring
Thank you. A 2p coin has just saved our rice cooker.
