I was skeptical at first and thought that maybe it's overhyped, but I was so blown away.

Positive Feedback

It’s the rice paddles. They all suck, each plastic one has a seam that sticks out and can scratch.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Consistently cooks perfect rice
I was skeptical at first and thought that maybe it's overhyped, but I was so blown away.
My zojirushi gets it right every time.
Never fails to make perfect rice and still going like a champ.
The rice cooker doesn't get so hot that it releases toxins in the air.
Durable inner pot
They're just not going to be reaching dangerous temperatures, so as long as nobody damages the finish by being careless with it, there's no danger here.
Safe for use around pets
a rice cooker never gets remotely close to those temperatures.
Perfect portion size for single servings
What I'm considering: * I like the "neuro fuzzy" logic that can adapt to user-error measurements.
I love my 3 cup rice cooker. I live alone and the 2-3 servings make it so I have leftovers but not too much.
Consistently cooks rice well
Fixable products are true BIFL. Congratulations, couple of decades with awesome rice ahead. 🎉
Reliable results with rice cooking
We have a Zojirushi and wouldn’t consider using anything else.
Perfectly cooks rice every time
It’s genuinely exceptional from the Z and I’d never be able to go back.
Keeps rice warm without toasting
It's not even warm rice, it's /hot/ and steaming rice. It's perpetually hot, like it was just finished cooking.
Multiple settings for different types of rice
Your $20 cooker doesn’t make perfect rice of any variety every time and have a dozen other useful features.
Durable parts and long lifespan
I had my prior zojirushi for 15 years and I just gave it away because it wouldn’t die and I wanted the newer one with neuro fuzzy
Consistent cooking results
it is incredibly consistent and it can keep rice safely warm for many hours without drying out or dropping to an unsafe temperature.
Literally just 1 switch and it cooks the rice perfectly every time.
Makes the best rice ever
I got the Induction model (without pressure) and I can attest that it makes the best rice I've ever had in my life.
Versatile for different rice types
The benefit to these, and what makes them worth the price, is that they handled “fancy rice” well.
I use the regular, soft, and hard functions to get my desired texture with different rice types.
Versatile cooking options
I have the neuro fuzzy and it’s my favorite thing ever you can do so so so much in it!
Cooks rice perfectly every time
It’s in excellent shape (I’ve conscientiously never used metal utensils in it), and it cooks and keeps things warm like a champ.
Can confirm, mine keeps perfect time and I only bring it out weekly or so.
Keeps food warm effectively
How about when you use the warm function?
Variety of cooking settings available
The rice tastes so much better out of their rice cookers, plus mine plays twinkle twinkle little star when the rice is finished.
Durable and long-lasting design
It’s a fantastic rice cooker and my favorite wedding gift.
Durable build with long-lasting performance
It’s pretty much universally accepted that Zojirushi is one of the best (if not THE best) brand of rice cooker out there.
it still works great minus a little extra scrubbing from time to time.
Same, mine is still going strong with no signs of age.
perfect rice every time.
Consistently cooks perfect rice every time
Now, with the Zoji I love having rice all day and eve and even overnight if I "forget" to wrap it up.
Induction heating enhances rice cooking quality
I love induction heating rice cookers and think they're worth the money if you want quality rice on the regular.
Durable appliance with long-lasting performance
No problems whatsoever. Zojirushi man
Induction heating provides quicker and more even cooking
The differences aside from size are induction heating which provides quicker more even heating, and micom or micro controlled circuitry that helps do judge when your rice is done just right.
Auto-regulates for perfect rice
I read in the comments about the Zojirushi rice cookers and how they can auto regulate the cooking process to get perfect rice almost every single time.
100% worth it. I have this one and couldn't be happier.
Durable and long-lasting
I bought mine in '96. Used it every day, for years.
Every single person that's tried rice cooker cake has raved about how good and moist it comes out.
it's the best wedding gift we received!
everything Zojirushi makes is outstanding and BIFL.
Great for cooking various grains
My wife sets it up at night, and they are ready at 6am, perfect.
it just makes a mess with Irish oats.
Not only can you, they have a recipe on their website: https://www.zojirushi.com/app/recipe/steel-cut-oatmeal
User-friendly with multiple settings
I throw in a chicken carcass and some spices with my rice
Our cooker has a 'Cake' setting. If yours doesn't, it may take some experimentation.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Ineffective rice paddles that can scratch
It’s the rice paddles. They all suck, each plastic one has a seam that sticks out and can scratch.
Difficulty finding replacement parts
Now we make sure to hand wash it and only use wooden spoons.
Perceived as too fancy for traditional cooking
I would say it is too fancy for Indians. I am good with my pressure cookers and regular pots.
Availability of cheaper alternatives
Truth is, typically such cookers are not used in Indian households or restaurants.
Perceived as too expensive
I just can’t imagine there’s much room for improvement there, so do people buy them for longevity?
Comparison to cheaper cookers
I was able to get the specific, exact part and *only* that part from them.
Peeling non-stick coating
Try to get one with the stainless steel insert instead of the coated one.
Requires time reset after unplugging
Love mine. Hate that I have to reset the time once it’s unplugged.
Limited availability of models in the UK
I'd be interested if anyone has tried both a YumAsia and a Zojirushi in the UK?
Confusing product variations in price and features
Most are so similar in price and features that it's confusing.
Perceived as too expensive compared to alternatives
Zojirushi, Cuckoo, Tatung - Tier One
Expensive compared to alternatives
You're not doing a good job convincing people to stop buying their products when you sound slightly unhinged.
Non-stick coating issues
Have you never got a hot spot in the non-stick rice container? What magic are you using?

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Curiosity about rice types and cooking methods
I picked this model specifically because it had settings for sushi, jasmine, and "GABA brown", which is a way of cooking brown rice in a way that preserves/activates GABA in brown rice, a chemical neurotransmitter that promotes calmness.

Discussion on various Zojirushi models
which would you recommend?
Discussion on induction vs neuro-fuzzy technology
The neuro-fuzzy has just enough smarts to compensate for your inability to measure rice vs water.
Inquiry about manufacturing locations
I'm trying to find info on the models I found regarding country of manufacturer, since I heard I should avoid the Chinese made ones, is there any good resource or way to check?
Curiosity about rice cooker benefits compared to stovetop cooking

Discussion on energy efficiency of keeping rice warm
While some rice cookers draw 600-1200 watts to make the rice, it seems they only use 30-50 watts to keep it warm.
well i’ll be! i guess maybe more efficient than putting it in the fridge and then microwaving it later.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Strong brand reputation over decades
Zojirushi is the best, accept no substitute.
They're was the only rice cooker we carried. And they also had an excellent bread machine.
Safety concerns about keeping rice warm for extended periods
Rice on “Keep Warm” for 30 hours. Still safe? Basically title.
We do not recommend that you store your rice in your rice cooker for longer than 12 hours, or 24 hours if your Zojirushi rice cooker has the “Extended Keep Warm” feature.
Basically the rice is probably okay except if it’s not then it’s very not.
Ehhh. Rice can mess you up without smelling funny.
Concerns about Teflon fumes
In my opinion a rice cooker is safe, it is temperature controlled and unlikely to be scratched or damaged like a pan.
