What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Zojirushi rice cooker is safe around birds
The dangers of Teflon fumes are when the material gets overheated, and a rice cooker never gets remotely close to those temperatures.
Durable inner cooking pot
They're just not going to be reaching dangerous temperatures, so as long as nobody damages the finish by being careless with it, there's no danger here.
Easy to clean with non-abrasive materials
I’ve found that about 90% of my dishes don’t need anything abrasive.
Easy to use and clean
Literally top tier Japanese appliances in our eyes
Durable and long-lasting performance
28 years and going (Zojirushi rice cooker) Just your typical Zojirushi rice cooker (NRC-10)
I had my prior zojirushi for 15 years and I just gave it away because it wouldn’t die and I wanted the newer one with neuro fuzzy
I bought mine in '96. Used it every day, for years. I left it with my ex-wife and kids, because my daughter loved it.
Perfect rice every time
My $20 rice cooker that I’ve been using for ~6 years always has some stuck/burnt rice at the bottom and I’m looking for an upgrade.
The "fuzzy logic" Zojirushi automatically presoaks your rice before it starts cooking and adds in the post cook steam.
It does take longer, but the rice comes out SO much better.
Convenient features for cooking
Your $20 cooker doesn’t make perfect rice of any variety every time and have a dozen other useful features.
I'm new to cooking can it be possible to make fried rice in this?
Fun alert sound when rice is done
I like the little song it plays when the rice is done.
Makes the best rice
I can attest that it makes the best rice I've ever had in my life.
I noticed an improvement to the rice texture when washing heavily with good technique.
Handles various rice types well
The benefit to these, and what makes them worth the price, is that they handled “fancy rice” well.
I use the regular, soft, and hard functions to get my desired texture with different rice types.
Durable and made in Japan
I love mine (I’m at work so I don’t know which model it is off hand) but I did search extra for an authentic one.
Made in Japan models are identifiable
If it is made in Japan, it will literally be printed on the front of the rice cooker "Made in Japan" in the top right corner.
The white models are made in japan and the silver models are generally made in china.
Induction heating improves rice quality
I love induction heating rice cookers and think they're worth the money if you want quality rice on the regular.
Zojirushi products have long-lasting durability
No problems whatsoever.
Induction heating provides quicker and more even cooking
The differences aside from size are induction heating which provides quicker more even heating, and micom or micro controlled circuitry that helps do judge when your rice is done just right.
Zojirushi rice cookers produce better rice texture
Zojirushi rice cookers are like the Porsche of the rice cooking world.
100% worth it. I have this one and couldn't be happier.
Auto-regulation for perfect rice cooking
their smaller version is $279.99.
Versatile for various recipes
Our cooker has a 'Cake' setting. If yours doesn't, it may take some experimentation.
Made in Japan quality
love it but made in japan quality, great performance worth the expense.
Variety in size and features
I dont think you can really go wrong it more comes down to size and minor features you want.
Users love their Zojirushi cookers
Love it to bits.
Fuzzy logic enhances cooking quality
It's more than just a start/stop process.
Basic models may lack these functions.
Multiple cooking settings available
Mine has settings for brown rice, long grain, quinoa, etc. There's like 8 different settings.
Durability and long-lasting performance
Anyone using those fancy Zojirushi rice cooker? Are they really better than normal ones?
Really zojirushi is one of the best around. I bought a small one that holds rice for 2-3 px and even 10 years on still working fine
Consistently perfect rice cooking
It comes out perfect everytime.
Zojirushi makes noticeably better rice
It makes noticeably better rice and the keep warm and timer features are nice upgrades.
Zojirushi rice cookers are safe for use around birds
I have one. My kitchen however is all the way at the opposite end of the house from the bird room with a door that closes the bird room off from the rest of the house.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Storing rice for too long can lead to safety concerns
Ehhh. Rice can mess you up without smelling funny
Rice paddles have questionable design
There is a reason they are more expensive. And if you’re springing for a Zoji, might as well get the best you can.
Non-stick coating deterioration
Have you never got a hot spot in the non-stick rice container? What magic are you using?
Limited availability of Zojirushi models in the UK
I still have an 'itch' to try the Zojirushi just because thats the original Japanese brand I guess but with the age, lack of newer features and possible issues, I'm not sure.
Shit breaks and things get discontinued. What did you expect them to do? Go make you a part brand new? You got four years out of it.
Confusion over product differences and pricing
Most are so similar in price and features that it's confusing.
High price compared to other rice cookers
Zojirushi, Cuckoo, Tatung - Tier One
So I would say, don’t get the Zojirushi, go for something cheaper.
Quality concerns with lower-end models
It might be the manufacturing site. The higher end models are made in Japan, but models that start with "NS" are manufactured in China and sold at a lower price point.
Zojirushi uses PTFE (Teflon) in non-stick coating
It seems they use PTFE (brand name Teflon). I wouldn’t risk it.
Concerns about Teflon toxicity at high temperatures
PTFE is toxic when it gets above 280C, a rice cooker is not ever going to get much above 100C.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Different rice types require varying water measurements
Brown rice requires **significantly** more water than white rice.
Long history of usage with Zojirushi cookers
Fixable products are true BIFL. Congratulations, couple of decades with awesome rice ahead.
Cooking methods vary by culture
It's the prestige/Hawkins cookers or directly pot boiling the rice which gives Indian rice dishes the unique texture and taste IMO
True, at the end of the day, the rinse, rice water ratio and cooking time are all that matter.
Differences in rice quality based on cooker type
Do you just leave the rice in the cooker for a whole day/overnight? I sometimes do that and the rice is always awful after (with a cheaper one)
the regular keep warm setting, or the extended keep warm setting? I need to try this.
Users discuss differences in heating methods
Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for it
Discussion on the efficiency of keeping rice warm
it seems really wasteful of energy to keep it hot for days at a time.
I guess it’s technically safe, although I’d imagine the quality suffers.
Discussion on cooking methods and cultural differences
Fried rice really works best with very high heat, fast cooking, and cooked, cooled rice, and rice cookers aren't really good for any of that.
Getting the exact proportions of butter, rice, soy sauce, and eggs right for your particular taste takes some effort, but after a few attempts, this method got me something virtually identical to my favorite Japanese steakhouse's fried rice :)
Discussion on Zojirushi manufacturing locations
The same manufacturing system and quality control are strictly enforced at all our factories worldwide to ensure that the products are manufactured to the same high standard that is expected of all products bearing the Zojirushi name.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Users have varying methods for reheating rice
Generally, the leftovers still come out better than what our old $20 rice cooker used to make in 25 minutes.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Users have varying opinions on rice safety and storage
I’ve ate rice in my cooker sitting at 99 hours for years and never had a problem besides it getting a little dry
just make new rice
Dang bröther I think you may be on to something 🤔
Users discuss rice cooking preferences and types
What I'm considering: * I like the "neuro fuzzy" logic that can adapt to user-error measurements.
Made in Japan is always higher quality than made in China.
Discussion about rice cooker brands and models
What model is this equivalent to now? I need to get one.
I checked, and it's actually a Zoji, don't know why I thought it was Tiger.
Discussion on the value of expensive rice cookers
I just can’t imagine there’s much room for improvement there, so do people buy them for longevity?
It’s illogical to get upset in a thread where people were asked to defend $300 rice cookers, because people are (*gasp*) telling you why they’re better.
Varied opinions on model selection
Any regrets. Im about to buy an hcc10!
Users are exploring various rice cooker brands
I want to treat myself to a fancy cooker and eat the best tasting rice possible.
Is the IH worth it for standard basmati cooking?
I guess I was hoping to find out if I could achieve a result like this with sushi or jasmine rice.
Comparison of product features and pricing
Not sure which of these Zojirushi Rice Cookers to choose
Only two have made in Japan checked. Look at those 2
Zojirushi is considered top-tier by many users
It's ok. It is a timer.
Confusion over product differences in the lineup
And, as usual, no real explanation of what the differences are from a glance.
Discussion on price differences and features
Is there a big difference between Zojirushi rice cookers? I see a $50 Zojirushi rice cooker on Amazon that cooks 3 cups.
Discussion on rice types and their cooking differences
Yes, it takes longer, but the rice is perfect EVERY SINGLE TIME... and never, ever sticks.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Users compare rice cookers' performance
It's still within the return period so I can return it. but I'm not gonna be cooking rice daily or anything to make it a worthy investment unless it's much better.
I personally hate every Aroma rice cooker I have had.
Zojirushis are great, but cheaper alternatives exist that still produce great rice.
Concerns about Teflon fumes and safety
In my opinion a rice cooker is safe, it is temperature controlled and unlikely to be scratched or damaged like a pan.
Personal experiences with different rice cookers
It’s genuinely exceptional from the Z and I’d never be able to go back.
with the Zojurishi there is no practice/experimentation needed, and it will be consistently correct every time even if you f up the measurements.
Discussion about rice cooking preferences
Do you wish you had a steam function. Im totally stuck between the QAC10 and HCC10.
Users share personal experiences with rice cookers
Just had our 25th anniversary, and this wedding present is going strong... Use it 2-3x/week!
Fantastic. I'm getting one.
Discussion on the perception of Zojirushi quality
You can’t go wrong with the “animal” brands, e.g. Tiger, Zojirushi.
Discussion about the safety of Teflon at cooking temperatures
I'm fairly certain this is standard.
