Snoop's Take

The Bodum 34oz Chambord French Press Coffee Maker is a stylish manual brewer crafted from high-heat borosilicate glass and polished stainless steel. It delivers full-bodied, robust coffee by employing a classic pressing method that promises an authentic taste. Community sentiment is as bitter as an under-extracted brew, with one user declaring, "I use mine daily w no issues. Seems like it will last awhile," even as many lament the fragile glass design and unpredictable temperature control. Critics note issues such as breakage and inconsistent brew performance, with some pointing out, "I've broken two bodum french presses in less than a year." The feedback is a sardonic mix of grudging praise and pointed caution. In conclusion, while the Chambord impresses with its aesthetic allure and adequate capacity for multiple servings, its durability shortcomings make it a risky pick for those valuing longevity. If you appreciate a traditional, stylish brew and can tolerate a bit of fragility, it might be worth the gamble; otherwise, consider sturdier alternatives.

I’ve been using a $16 Bodum Brazil I got at target. Works fine for me!

Positive Feedback

I replaced my bodum with a SS version from some no name brand after breaking what was probably my 15th carafe.

I've had mine about a year and a half and have had no problems with it after daily use.

Fragile glass construction in Bodum products
I replaced my bodum with a SS version from some no name brand after breaking what was probably my 15th carafe.
Replacing the glass when it breaks isn't worth it. A new press is less.
I picked up a small one that gets me about one large cup for around $12 bucks on the days I don’t feel like making a whole ordeal with the moka pot. I trust it and feel like it’s going to last a little while at least compared to the last one I bought which fractured within a month or so.
I would personally just go for a stainless one and avoid the headache of accidentally breaking your glass.
Unwanted plastic components in Bodum Chambord
It doesn't have plastic where the water and coffee would be.
I have replaced mine with the metal variant on my favorite press.
Fragile glass construction leading to breakage
is a glass french press a must I've broken two bodum french presses in less than a year. I'm not particularly clumsy, but I haven't been so careful with my presses.
I hate how the glass part slides out of the Bodum and can crash into the sink when you dump your grounds.
I'd be willing to bet the glass was defective, either some sort of manufacturing flaw that resulted in a weakness or a chip.
Yeah def sounds like defective glass
Unstable brew temperature due to poor heat retention
You don't want the water to drop below 195, and that's much more of a risk with a glass press than a double wall stainless one.
People neglect the preheating stage of making coffee at their own peril.
I'm not sure if you've checked with a thermometer, but you get dramatic temperature drops even with preheating.
With my aeropress 200F water stays at 197 if I preheated with boiling water (212F) before the brew.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for stainless steel French presses due to durability
I bought an insulated Stainless Steel FP that'll double as a thermos after pressing, it keeps coffee hot so well. Added bonus for not being able to break it.
Love my stainless steel French press! Don't know why I bothered with glass all those years, it is such a no-brainer! Coffee stays hot, the press doesn't break and it's easy to clean.
Filter design impacts coffee grit in French presses
Swapped it out for a new one with tighter filter and problem solved.
There are high end presses where you can easily lift the grounds without making a fuss.
I have a metal/insulated French press, which keeps the temps very high during brewing.

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Debate over using French press for both coffee and tea
Do you make coffee in a french press? Hi there!
Make no apologies. French press is a quality means to a great cup.
Yeah, French press is one of my favourite ways of making coffee, and has been for decades.
Tea drinkers would never use a coffee tainted french press.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Optimal French press brewing settings vary widely
w/ stock burrs i got decent french press brews around 85 on the dial!
I set mine at 75 and it came out pretty good will try 85!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
No appreciable taste difference across French presses
Brewing technique is way more important.
Co-sign this. I have a cheap IKEA one and it brews perfectly.
Stainless steel will retain heat the longest, be the most durable, and possibly leech a metallic or rancid taste into your brew.
My girlfriend has one that’s stainless steel insulated, but I actually hate the idea because after it’s brewed for a few minutes I prefer to pour it into another carafe or container to keep the coffee from getting bitter and acrid from over extracting the beans.
Generic glass fragility in French presses
Anybody who claims they can taste the difference between a $10 French press and a $100 model, using the same brew method, is probably lying.
I've broken so many glass ones, but I just like being able to see the coffee inside :(
Preference for non‐glass alternatives for improved durability
My double-walled stainless steel french press from ikea is perfect and has been with me for 4+ years.
Bodum has a double walled glass french press, but regardless i got myself the espropress because less fines and virtually indestructible is what i need
