My old drip machine would get gross stuff on the water tank part and some coffee grounds would migrate there making it nasty.

Positive Feedback

Looks like an overly complicated French press to be honest.

What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Easy to clean and maintain
My old drip machine would get gross stuff on the water tank part and some coffee grounds would migrate there making it nasty.
Clean up is also dead simple, as all you have left when you're done plunging are fairly compressed grounds that you can just pop right out into a garbage can.
Makes better tasting coffee than drip methods
Yes, and it tastes way better than drip IMO.
Metal design is durable and long-lasting
You made a wise choice getting a metal one, also.
This was the first one I bought, and I got it exactly for that reason.
New one is double walled metal and it keeps the coffee hot for so much longer.
I've had it about 8 years now. Gets used 2 to 3 times a day everyday and still going strong.
Better tasting coffee compared to drip methods
The thing about these are not only will you be saving money as opposed to buying a coffee everyday, but it is sooo much better!
Convenient for making cold brew coffee
You can also use your French press to make AMAZING cold brew coffee.
Easy to use for brewing
I did understand what the “clean” taste was that people were talking about. It had such a pronounced and intense taste, without any bitterness.
I’d recommend a French Press, as it’s uncomplicated, and if you have a moka pot and love lattes, you can use a French press to froth your milk.
Consistent results compared to other methods
The AP takes 90% of the guesswork out of coffee and gives you nice consistent results as long as your measurements are consistent.
Makes the best coffee while camping or traveling
finally got my hands on a camp french press! you can use the mug for ramen noodles as well, can be used directly on the stove
Whether "roughing it" in our tents, or glamping in our travel trailer, my wife and I always use our backpacking French press because it makes the best coffee.
Portable and easy to use
I mean as long as you’re car camping and using a French press I’m sure you’ll survive.
Cold brew coffee is easy to make
I really like the cold brew I make with it.
Convenient for making tea without cross-contamination
I have one that I only use for tea and it works great, that way I don't mix it with the coffee oils 👌
I have a French press for making tea and I like it fine. I don't have an issue cleaning it or find it difficult.
Easy to clean after use
Cleaning is simply dumping the tea in the trash and rinsing the plunger.
Works effectively for making green tea
I’ve been using french presses to make my green tea for over 25 years, and I wouldn’t do it any other way.
Retains flavor without bacterial growth
Yeah it is, and you'll lose the clarity of it pretty quickly.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Looks overly complicated
Looks like an overly complicated French press to be honest.
Product perceived as inconvenient compared to traditional French presses
Isn't this just like a very tiny and sorta inconvenient to use French press?
Considered overly complicated for some users
Beyond that, I am not sure it is solving a huge gap in the coffee brewing world.
Some silt present in coffee
Three things
Design perceived as overcomplicated
This is just an overcomplicated french press.
Requires specific grind size for optimal results
It brewed pretty decent.
May not achieve consistent brewing results
Finalpress wouldn't be able to achieve this in the same manner, hence why one of the required steps is moving it around the cup to try to achieve that same even extraction other immersion methods achieve.
French presses are difficult to clean
Honestly, I find french presses difficult to clean, which is why I use other methods usually.
Definitely the fastest easiest method for me.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Preference for stainless steel French presses
It's probably out of production but Ikea used to sell a big, double wall stainless French press that earned the approval of the Alpha Weird Coffee Person, James Hoffman.
Stainless steel & an electric kettle for heating water is the way to go.
Preference for stainless steel over glass French presses
I prefer a metal French press, some are double walled it keeps the coffee hotter for longer.
thats the issue. Glass one = having to microwave coffee #2 of the day
We went through at least 3 before learning that lesson. Buy it for life.
And here I am, on my third glass press like a sucker
Preference for made in USA products
Haven’t seen a thread on this topic in 3 years so thought I’d see if anyone has updated recommendations.
Even the metal parts of the fancy Harios are made in China.
The packaging says made in Portugal and their website talks about their Portugal facility as well.
Product has returned with a new version
Looks like an overly complicated French press to be honest.
Discussion about efficiency and complexity related to design
Psh, German Press would be mehr efficient und high-tech, nicht "complicated"!

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Mention of alternatives to traditional French presses
Why not just buy It's American Press? In all seriousness I loved mine
Aeropress vs French Press debate
A lot of people saying aeropress is the better one for first time user, well objectively speaking, it is not.
because right now i'm using a french press.
The Aeropress can use paper filters which remove more oils and allow you to experiment with finer grinds.
The AeroPress is much more versatile than the French press.
Curiosity about using metal filters for brewing
It looks like it wouldn't be half bad... You could choose to skip the last part where they squish the coffee grinds in the basket.
Discussion about brewing methods and personal experiences
Holy fat jesus on a bike, did it make a difference! The coffee has a full mouthfeel to it, a dank earthy aroma, and a bite of bitterness that is quickly subdued by a subtle chocolatey taste.
It might be overkill but I use a digital thermometer every time I use my stove top kettle for brewing coffee.
They are as common in Japan as toasters are in the US. It keeps water at the perfect temperature al the time.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on alternatives like Aeropress being cheaper and more efficient
Agreed, the Brew It Stick is £12 and available now.
Comparisons to other brewing methods and equipment
There is no reason to do it. Teapots and infusers are stupid cheap.
Discussion about cleaning methods for French presses
I have been making coffee in a French press for about 5-6 years now, but have lived in rural houses the entirety of that time.
Get a small mesh strainer, it's the easiest way to clean a French Press and I can't believe I didn't think of it sooner.
I usually just use the sprayer attachment for the sink and hose them directly into the garbage disposal.
don't put coffee grounds down the garbage disposal.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about durability of glass French presses
Now I have a stainless one.
Been several years with my metal one and it's a tank.
Glass tastes so much better, but I got metal too cuz I'm clumsy af.
Concerns about plastic in French presses
It has tons of plastic that will heat up and leech toxic chemicals. Hard pass.
Discussion about different brewing methods and personal experiences
Yeah, that's not how you do it.
I love it. It smells so good, the whole process is very calming, I've acquired a taste for it and it reminds me of my grandmother.
