What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Effective filtering keeps coffee grit-free
Swapped it out for a new one with tighter filter and problem solved.
I want to step it up and I have heard a lot of good about French presses.
Was completely flat again in the morning.
Good insulation maintains coffee temperature
I haven’t seen anyone mention insulation. I have a metal/insulated French press, which keeps the temps very high during brewing.
Effective insulation keeps coffee hot
I bought an insulated Stainless Steel FP that'll double as a thermos after pressing, it keeps coffee hot so well.
Love my stainless steel French press! Don't know why I bothered with glass all those years, it is such a no-brainer! Coffee stays hot, the press doesn't break and it's easy to clean.
I prefer a metal French press, some are double walled it keeps the coffee hotter for longer.
New one is double walled metal and it keeps the coffee hot for so much longer. I love it.
Good filtering keeps coffee grit-free
Choosing a French Press I've been thinking about getting a French Press for larger volume brewing to entertain guests, but I'm not sure which ones are worth getting.
I'm always happy and grateful to use my Frieling insulated French Press.
Durable stainless steel design

You made a wise choice getting a metal one, also.
I've had it about 8 years now. Gets used 2 to 3 times a day everyday and still going strong.
While I agree French press is the way to go, in terms of frugality, I see myself using less grounds with a drip maker.
Rich and smooth coffee quality
If done right it’s so rich and smooth
Easy to clean and maintain
Love the combo. Drinking my coffee right now.
Fucking hate cleaning my french press.
Durable and high-quality construction
Well worth the effort, time, and money.
Great for making cold brew coffee
Cold Brew with a French press? Can I cold brew with a French press? I’m learning to make coffee at home.
A French press is basically the perfect device to make cold brew, though I always prefer to make bigger batches.
I make cold brew concentrate in my French press and then transfer it to a mason jar after I plunge.
Durable construction
I love that French press. It’s an absolute tank
Got the same one. Just needs new metal filters
Good insulation keeps coffee warm
Keeps your coffee warm for a long time as well.
Effective insulation maintains coffee temperature
Stainless steel vacuum insulated is the way to go.

Where it needs some work!

Areas to watch—feedback on possible improvements.
Can produce thick coffee if not used correctly
My fiancee actually prefers her Kuerogg to our French press.
Difficult to keep grounds out of coffee
Maybe I’m doing something wrong but I find it so difficult to keep the grounds out of the coffee with this press.
Risk of over-extraction if coffee sits too long
French press needs to come off the grounds after the brew or it will over extract.
The statement about holding in the french press for a 'long time' does not align with the importance of preserving the quality of the coffee.

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Discussion about other brands and experiences
Not sure if it's BIFL yet, but it's all metal and Stanley as a brand has served me well.
Preference for stainless steel over glass French presses
Looking for a French Press without plastic
I would go through a carafe a year because the glass was very thin, but the smooth action was nice, and glass is a little easier to clean.
Although durability is a benefit, I also don't mind fragility. I like the reminder that all the material inhabitants of my life (myself included) are impermanent, perishable, vulnerable.
Comments on flavor and grinding beans
Thanks! Sounds like French press is fine for me and my family as our palette isn’t sophisticated enough for the use of a Moka it seems.
Grounds start going stale pretty quickly.

Hidden Hero Hacks

Unexpected tricks and side‑door uses you’ll love.
Cold brew steeping techniques vary
Nice. How long do you let the coffee steep before transferring it to the mason jar?
Cold brew is literally just soaking grounds in any container, then using anything to separate it would.

Buyer’s Cheat Sheet

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Brewing technique is more important than the press quality
Never once have I experienced any difference in taste between a cheap French press and an expensive one.
Co-sign this. I have a cheap IKEA one and it brews perfectly.
Different brewing techniques affect taste
I can fully clean my French press and accessory parts in like 2 minutes. All hail the French press!
Cleaning methods and disposal of grounds
it gets stuck with the fat down the drain creating a sort glob of fat that dosen't melt when hot water is applied
You shouldn't pour coffee grounds down the drain.
Comparison with another brand's French press
It works fine, and the money I spent helps feed animals in shelters.
General comments about brewing techniques and coffee quality
Well a typical French press only makes three or four cups worth of coffee at a time anyway, so that's not going to sit around all that long.
That’s not true. The plunger is not impermeable and the grounds are still wet.
Preference for brewing methods based on coffee quantity
You can make a pretty decent faux latte or cappuccino with a Moka for the brew and froth your milk in your press.
Depending on your preference for longer or shorter coffees will determine which is more suitable for you.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Differences in quality among French presses
do french presses differ in quality? I have a pretty cheap one i got a few years ago, and i’ve noticed some are really expensive.
the sieve is all that matters for the taste and the material you cook the coffee in.
It is 12x24 in and 1.5 in thick edge grain maple.
Glass French presses break easily
Now I have a stainless one.
Me too, I have the exact same one with mirror finish, definitely bulletproof
And here I am, on my third glass press like a sucker
I finally got a metal one.
Perceptions of French press usage vary by region
What’s kinda funny is here in the UK if you use a French press then everyone assumes you’re a coffee peasant who doesn’t know their shit.
I think that’s just because the Brits hate the French.
Discussion about alternatives to French press
Introduce him to the aeropress. They're cheap as hell and make a fucking cup of coffee like no other.
The Aeropress is by far the best way I’ve found for making coffee. It’s been part of my morning ritual for years.
Negative sentiment towards Starbucks French press
Don't buy this horrible French press from Starbucks.
If a friend gives you a Starbucks French press as a gift just say 'thank you' and then when they turn around club them over the head with it because that person was never your friend.
Concerns about glass French presses breaking
My glass French press seems to be leaking/breaking soon so this was great to see!
Discussion about over-brewing with insulated French presses
Excuse me for not understanding this... If you leave the coffee in the French press, meaning the insulated ones, does it not over-brew?
Concerns about product sourcing and manufacturing
Plastic free French press? Does anyone have a good rec for a borosilicate glass and good quality stainless steel French press that doesn’t have a prop 65 warning or is made in China, preferably?
I’m assuming you live in the States - do they sell the [Barista & Co Core Coffee Press] across the pond? I‘m afraid its more than likely to have been made in China (as with most things…) but it‘s made of stainless steel and borosilicate glass!
Discussion about the differences between brewing methods
Why moka over a small french press? French press user and wondering if I should make the jump
Both use coffee but they’re fundamentally different things. Moka pot is stronger more concentrated, with a ratio of ~1:4. Frenchpess is the easiest brew to get delicious coffee with ratios completely up your taste but generally ~1:16.
A french press might be less likely to make bad coffee if you just forget it or have something to do in the meantime.
Having the ability to make different coffee styles adds a bit of variety, and keeps me from getting bored with one.
