Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Trekking poles increase hiking speed and stability
I find I hike faster with poles, both on trail (because of the extra propulsion), and off trail (extra stability).
Once I started using trekking poles, I will never go back. I love how they help with the knees, stability, and pacing.
Poles help reduce knee pain on descents
Once I hit my 40’s I found how much poles save my knees on the downhills... don’t need them so much going up.
Only 23 minutes since you posted I would like to know if you are sold
Over nighter on the Loyalsock Link Loop Trail. Worlds End State Park. Beautiful and well maintained.
This item is sold as each not as a pair by REI. It’s intended use is as a staff and can be used as a cane.
Poles are lightweight and durable
I can prove that the BD zpoles will snap, but I like them better.
I have an aluminum pair (~$20) and a Carbon pair (~$70). Both have been great for me, so comfortable and I’ve had no issues.
there’s usually a reason one product costs more and I’ve come to rely on that difference.
Still going strong & only $36.
Poles provide good balance
You pay the extra 100 bucks to get a pole that’s about 10% better.
Poles reduce pressure on knees during descents
Yes.
Really helps the knees on descents, really helps stability on rough ground.
Poles enhance stability on rough terrain
Poles are a big yes for me. I find them useful for balance on descents (and ascents), as well as uneven rocky or snowy crossings, river crossings etc.
Poles provide stability and support
Hi, I’m Vetted AI Bot! I researched the **TrailBuddy Trekking Poles Lightweight Collapsible** you mentioned in your comment along with its brand, **TrailBuddy**, and I thought you might find the following analysis helpful.
Trekking poles improve stability and support
I don’t want to bring a cane on the trip, but thought collapsible poles might be a good idea just in case I have a longer day and get tired.
Trekking poles are the best. I used them on a cruise before my surgery and was able to get around well.
Poles help maintain a normal gait compared to using a cane
I stopped using my cane at 3 1/2 weeks post RTKR and do almost everything with no device, but on longer walks (especially on uneven ground) I am using trekking poles!!

Core Power Plays

The specs and strengths that make it shine.
Comparative insights on other trekking pole brands
The flick lock system of the CP3 is far superior to the twist lock mechanism in my opinion.
General discussion on the benefits of using trekking poles
Decent cork handle, very good price. Excited to give them a go!
Once you try them you'll probably like them. Makes a big difference on hills. No value on flat walks.
Discussion on the collapsibility and portability of trekking poles
My current pair finally broke. Looking for a 3-piece pole so it can collapse into a backpack, swappable powder baskets for backcountry skiing, grip extension for steeper terrain, and mostly carbon fiber.
Costco sells Cascade Mountain Tech poles for about 1/4 of the price of competitive poles. I like mine a lot.
Easily adjust, very solid build — great value and each year’s model gets a bit closer to the fancy models.
These are exactly the poles I had that recently broke (after 7 years of abuse).
Insight on material preference for skiing versus hiking
For skiing you don't want to use carbon fiber, the impacts are far greater and you're more likely to snap one.
Discussion about trekking pole accessories like snow/mud baskets.
What is this thing? It came with a trekking stick I’d look it up myself, but the pole I bought is in Hebrew…
Snow/mud basket. Snow baskets are usually the bigger ones. So when you stick your pole into not solid ground, it doesn't just pierce it to the bottom and cause you to trip.
It puts the lotion in the basket ...... Actually, in this case, it puts the basket on the pole.
For your ~~trolling~~ trekking poles
Discussion on twist lock vs flick lock mechanisms
People report that the twist locks are prone to slipping, and are unreliable, but I haven't had those experiences.
My twist lock Leki have gone through 2 sets of tips and are still humming along.
I find the flick locks to be easier to use.
twist-locks are the only ones I've ever had slip on me — although even that wasn't a common problem.

Discussion on the use of different trekking pole tips for various terrains.
Different trekking pole tips for different terrain
Oh, so you're not supposed to just throw all of these away when you buy hiking poles? I kept the rubber tips, just to keep from being stabbed by the tungsten tips.
Rubber tips sound good in theory but the only time I ever tried to use them, the carbide tip just ended up ripping through them.
lets be honest the carbide tips have grip on everything, it might just destroy it in the process
Discussion on the use of different trekking pole tips for various terrains
Sell me on using trekking poles? Ultralight is not just buying the lightest gear, it's a mindset of reducing weight, whether through using knowledge to reduce or finding multi-use items.
Discussion on storage methods for trekking poles
If you store these with the pole collapsed the kevlar strap inside the pole seems to contract and shorten.. This makes the little click lock not come down low enough on the first section of the pole to be exposed and pop out.
Thanks for the tip. I have a pair of these and have had to do some many fixes like this.
I've had mine about a year with no issues. I'm thinking I should store them straight and collapse for travel to avoid this!
I used this method, recommended by Black Diamond customer service,
Discussion on using trekking poles as a backup for stability
It’s like insurance - if you have them you likely won’t need them, but great to have if you do!
Discussion on using trekking poles for various purposes
What to look for in trekking poles I’m somewhat knew to hiking and I’m looking at poles on Amazon what should I look for?
Keep in mind your trekking poles can also be used as your poles for your tent and other things.
Discussion on the use of oversized rubber feet for trekking poles in winter
Helinox Chair Zero Ground Cover BLUF: Has anyone discovered a lightweight alternative to the Helinox
I added oversized rubber feet made for trekking poles for winter use, without them the chair would obviously sink into the snow.
That's genius! I'll look at that. At the very least they'll take up much less room in my outer pack pocket.
Creative alternative uses for trekking pole accessories
Drill holes in golf balls and put on feet.

What to check before you click ‘Add to Cart.’
Discussion on testing trekking poles before hikes
The answer is that you have to test them out before your big hike; you will find people that swear by the daintier poles and others that hate them.
Thanks, I know it is a personal preference, but getting 3 sets and testing durability, ect, is a little difficult given the time and miles needed to really know and the timing of these sales.
Comments about personal preferences in trekking pole selection
Very bulky and heavy compared to my whoopie slings but really easy to set up.
Discussion on alternative trekking pole brands
I'm looking to get a budget replacement.
Cascade Mountain Tech. Good quality great price.
Personal anecdotes about hiking experiences
i just thru hiked the Long Trail with a stick i found on the first day
Comparative feedback on other trekking pole brands
Leki, the started with ski poles, then moved on to trekking poles, gloves and other stuff now, but they excel at making quality poles.
I just got an awesome pait from Black Diamond.
That’s what i’ll need to pick up for my next pair!

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Discussion on differences in locking mechanisms between brands
Not sure what would be the advantage of the expensive option (eg black diamond) compared to the cheap one (eg decathlon).
the most noticeable difference is the locking mechanism.
Only noticeable difference is the locking mechanism. Performance is equal between them and the CMT poles are much less expensive.
the BD Ergonomic cork handle a lot more comfortable. Is it worth $100+ difference? Probably not
Concerns about product quality from certain brands
The last thing you need is a Chinesium pole to collapse when you are on a steep slope.
Discussion on reliability of trekking poles for hiking
Recommendation for hiking poles? Hello all. My mom has been working hard to get back into shape so s
they have been very reliable for me
I've used Lekki for a long time with zero problems.
they were perfect
