What it does well!

Key strengths users can’t stop talking about.
Poles are lightweight and easy to carry
Only put ~90 miles on them so far but they seem great.
They feel kind of cheap, but they've proven to be an excellent value.
These things are super light and I’ve been using them forever.
Durable and strong construction
I used these for the entire Triple Crown. They’re great.
I have used this brand and they work very well.
My husband and I both bought these in November and neither have had any problems.
Comfortable foam handles that absorb moisture
should I be looking at any certain companies on amazon that offer trekking poles or are they all basically the same equipment offered by random companies
reasonably priced, reasonably weighted, and suit all of my needs (adjustable, different attachments for varying conditions)
Poles are affordable options for budget-conscious buyers
Are they durable? What else would you recommend under $40-50?
For only 30ish more dollars you can get some at REI that will be much more reliable and last you for years of repeated use!.
Trail Buddies with 20,000+ 5 star reviews on Amazon at only 40 dollars for the pair. But I wonder if I would regret them.
I got my poles on Amazon for I think 40. TheFitLife. They come in many colours and have literally gotten me up at down mountains with no problems.
Quick lock system preferred for ease of use
Quicklocks I prefer especially when using a trekking pole tent.
Strong recommendation for TheFitLife poles
Remains to be seen how they hold up but they seem identical to the Cascade Designs ones
Poles provide support and stability
Absolutely do so.
Poles help with the swelling in your hands!
The full Camino Frances is about one MILLION steps. You will misstep on at least one of those. Hiking sticks might save your ankle or knee or Camino.
Poles will definitely help with the elevation. If they are lightweight I definitely recommend.
Poles aid in maintaining upright posture
Trekking poles aid in upright posture which prevents you from hunching forward and overusing abdominal muscles, which in turn takes pressure off the knees
Super lightweight and great quality for the price
they’re great quality and super lightweight (about 1 lb for the pair), especially for the price.
Cascade mountain tech nailed it with these poles. Used exclusively for years and never had an issue.
Affordable option that does not sacrifice quality
They are my favorite trekking poles.
Poles provide stability and support
Trekking poles provide stability and support.
Durable construction over time
Still going strong & only $36.

Durability issues with other brands mentioned
Was planning on replacing the tips but a lower section snapped. Replaced with BD and never looked back.
GREAT customer service and sticks you can trust.
I don't think I can give a good estimate on lifespan other than "long enough that they're a great value at $23".
Quality concerns with certain budget brands
I would not trust Trekology. I bought a chair from them and one of the legs attachment point snapped the 1st time i used it.
Twist lock versions are prone to slipping
They're great for the price. Just avoid the twist lock versions as they're prone to slipping in comparison to the folding or flick/quick/flip lock models.
Wrist straps do not stay in position

Discussion on different trekking pole tips for various terrains
Different trekking pole tips for different terrain
Oh, so you're not supposed to just throw all of these away when you buy hiking poles? I kept the rubber tips, just to keep from being stabbed by the tungsten tips.
Rubber tips sound good in theory but the only time I ever tried to use them, the carbide tip just ended up ripping through them.
lets be honest the carbide tips have grip on everything, it might just destroy it in the process
Discussion about folding vs. quick lock mechanisms
Thanks, I'm outside US, but those are quite affordable on amazon as well. What would you recommend a folding one or a quick lock?
Discussion on hiking pole utility for long walks
Are hiking poles a must have or can I skip it?
User experiences with different trekking pole brands
They’ve got the carbon ones online in a 2-pack for $80 with free shipping.
Emotional connection with hiking gear
i just thru hiked the Long Trail with a stick i found on the first day

Discussion on various brands and their features
the cheaper poles made with good materials do a decent job.
I'll just throw out that I saw cork-handled fiberglass collapsible trekking poles at Costco for maybe $50.
They’ve held up well.
I always go back to my Costco Cascades.
Discussion on different trekking pole brands and their prices
FYI Costco has Cascade Mountain Tech poles for $29.99 currently, the carbon fiber with cork handle ones.
people really like the Cascade Mountain Tech ones.
Discussion about finding quality lightweight poles under £50
Doubt you will find quality lightweight lever lock poles under £50.
Discussion on trekking pole price differences
Not sure what would be the advantage of the expensive option (eg black diamond) compared to the cheap one (eg decathlon).
From my perspective, I would say the most noticeable difference is the locking mechanism.
Same here, only noticeable difference is the locking mechanism. Performance is equal between them and the CMT poles are much less expensive and come with a variety of tips.
Both have been great for me, so comfortable and I’ve had no issues.
Discussion on budget trekking pole options
Cascade Mountain Tech poles for $40 but be prepared to replace the lower sections at least once as the steel is pretty soft.
these ones have cork handles, which is actually a feature that is actually worth it.
Discussion about availability of trekking poles in stores
$30 for a pair is a steal, I think I paid $60/pair on Amazon.
aluminum or carbon? I've only ever seen aluminum in stores.

Cautionary Callouts

Know the pitfalls before they catch you off guard.
Concerns about twist locks vs lever locks for durability
only hesitation I have is not lever lock, those twist locks can stick.
Ok I also prefer lever locks but they are going to be heavier and more expensive than twist locks for good ones.
User experiences with different trekking poles
I've had mine going on 6 years now used over 1000's of miles on foot and also been using them bike packing.
Cascade Mountain Tech. Good quality great price.
